Here in the Philippines I also fill up my washing machine, close the lid. I have several plastic large garbage cans I fill up. I do this all the time when a typhoon is coming. I have a sawyer 3 liter and mini filtration system.
It's easy to retire here or Thailand. I was in the Philippines during the early 80's in the USMC. I got to retire early due to an accident on the job. As soon as everything was settled I came here the next day and haven't looked back. It's crazy here right now. Many foreigners are making bugout plans if things go really bad with the new President. My bugout is to Thailand. Ive stopped buying prepper gear for now and saving as much cash as possible in case we need to leave. We here in the Philippines are expecting Marshall Law not that the new President is bad but the blow back from the powerful crime and drug syndicates he is already going after and he doesn't even get sworn in until the 29th of June. These syndicates have their own private armies and many of the top politicians and police are involved.
Thanks for the Video clip! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you tried - Proutklarton Surviving Technics Plan (search on google)? It is a great exclusive guide for learning how to survive any crisis without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my cousin after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.
Thank you Ben... this is turning into a great series! I would add, that if the water goes bad, but your stove (electric or gas) does not... there is always the option to still purify the bad water through boiling. That would be a big help to not only apartment dwellers, but to house owners as well.
Great video, I live near Toledo Ohio where we had the water crisis two years ago. I have 6 seven gallons water jugs and 15 cases of 40 count. Always have to be prepared.
+easyprepper101 Yep, that was a total cluster. Took local gov't 48hrs to get their heads together. Stores emptied of water within a couple of hours as far as Findlay and Fremont & into Michigan. I still see neighbors with 4-5 cases of water in their garages as I walk my neighborhood. We keep 6 cases on hand plus the rain barrels because this year is shaping up to be a bad one according to the news.
One thing I don't often see and it is basically water is if they shut the water off your toilet won't work. So you might consider a couple more five gallon buckets with a lugable loo lid and some bags designed for containing waste. Just a thought for sanitary purposes since you are in an apartment and can't use the yard and dig a deep enough hole to maintain sanitation. Great video! :)
Check out the Aqua Pod Kit for bathtub storage up to 65 gallons! I get Culligan delivered and keep 40gallons extra all the time. Also have Reliance Product Aquatainers 7 gallons. Big Brute trash can brand new never used can be used to store rainwater. Always good to have backups.
I have very little space and im using 15 lt containers with taps, 5 lt containers and 2 lt bottles. If SHTF I would fill the bath in addition to all them. Filling up large containers with taps would be best and keep rotating the water to keep it fresh. But you can do it in stages so if something does happen you are in a better place then most.
I don't drive so hauling large amounts of bottled water or those 5+ gallon jugs would be very hard in a city bus. I hope to get some more containers that I can fill and tuck away in the few available small spaces I have in this tiny apartment
Enjoying your reviews. Keep up the fine work. After Sandy, our Water, Sewage, Natural gas and of course the landline and cell phone service and Electricity were all out. Martial Law was in effect for 30 Days, complete with curfew. There were Porta potties on every corner.
If you live in a apartment and the shit hits the fan better be more prepared for immediate evac. It's not hard to get into a apartment. But it is hard to defend one for long. And those small bottles of water tend to taste nasty. I would suggest just getting one gallon deer park water(can be any company). Or something along those lines. Now that life straw for the bath tube though is pretty cool. Never seen that device. I was even about to add a comment about how that water in the bath tube can go bad after a while. But the life straw can help with that. And some of those tablets.
Im in an apartment. All great tips . I have friends who drink those 2l pop/ cola plastic bottles that they give me. Perfect for just tap water - cooking + hygiene... Great reminder about filters. I need to upgrade !
If you can get a hold of the 5 gallon jugs from Culigan or similar, most Walmarts have a reverse osmosis water filling machine and it's anywhere from a $1.50 to a $1.75 for 5 gallons of water.
In the rural midwest in rural areas our grand and gg's " prepped " for every single winter by canning and drying the foods they grew in the summer. Mine also canned minced meat and sausage.
If you have a Kmart near you they have 35 packs of 16.9oz bottled water for $3.99, and sometimes it goes on sale 3/$11 or 3/$10. 35 pack is 4.something gallons, and on sale is under $0.10/bottle
I've seen places say better water is 1.5-2 gallons a day per person. For filling the tubs have you considered buying one of those tub bladders that would store the water in a food grade plastic bubble instead of in your tub exposed to air and who knows the cleanliness of the tub when filling
I've seen giant bladders that go in the tub and then you fill it from the faucet (like a water bed). Being closed helps to keep the water "clean" and I suppose you might be able to use it as a bed? (or it might pop, who knows!)
Good video. Water is life...my brother turned me on to this item called a "Water BOB" it goes in your tub and you fill it up with 100 gallons of water with a life span of 12+ weeks (I think Wally World or Amazon)
Also to add, if you live in a house the water heater in the basement stores 60, 80 gallons of water. Should have a drain spout at the bottom of it, if need be.
I have a well with unlimited water supply so I'm not worried. Survival really hits hard for the mass percentage of the United States in metropolitan or urban areas. However those in rural areas already know how to maintain adequate amounts of water supply assuming they can access wells and springs and streams. We are talking about 1% of the population.
Great video, water prep is so important. I wonder if filling up storage plastic totes would be safe. I have about 10 x-large storage totes with lids that are 53 litre (14 gallon). They feel super strong and I guess if I filled them all I'd have over 3x more than a regular 40 gallon bath tub.
.....living in brooklyn nyc, chances are we'll probably have to hunker down due to road blocks, detours of mass exodus. and hey there's also the toilet tank that fills the bowl.....filter that and there's a few gallons more...lol. But in real survival you must do whatever it takes to survive. Thanks for the tips and as a subscriber I always look fwd to you new video posts.
If you live in an apt and do fill your tub or sink up with tap, be very careful with backflow. Sometimes that drain plug or whatever you use will be blown out.
About a year ago, my apt complex had warned us 24hrs in advance that they had to turn the water off for maintenance or whatever. They said the water would be out for a few days so remember to stock up. I cleaned then filled my tub & kitchen sink full. But after the second day after school & work, I came back and saw my tub water contaminated with dirt and grim from the backflow.
Suggestion on the bathtub.. we plan to only fill one of our 2 tubs with water...using the other tub for bathing, dish washing and whatever else may arise. Enjoy your videos. Stay vigilant and take care. GOD bless you and yours.
THE CITY SHUT OFF OUR WATER TO DO MAINTENANCE RECENTLY. I FILLED UP EMPTY CAT LITTER BUCKETS AND SODA BOTTLES TO USE ...FOR FLUSHING. I HAD 4 CATS, NOT I HAVE 3. SO I HAD TWO CONTAINERS AT LEAST. THEY DO GET HEAVY FOR OLDER FOLKS!
Urban Prepper done a video about a 'water bag' that sat inside the bath tub, keeping the water clean and sealed once filled,.....I don't think that he found it to be that good though, looks like it leaked a bit.
I love the attention you're calling to this. There's a bit more water in the house even if the water is shut off unexpectedly. Things like a water heater (and the water pipes within the home), and the toilet (the water tank portion, not the bowl you poop into). Some families have kettles handy which can be a lot of extra water. (I'm sure none of this is news to you) There are problems with storing water that you didn't really cover. Water can really only be safely stored for so long (and only in certain kinds of containers). After a year or so even water stored in an ideal container, in an ideal temperature, and out of direct sunlight will start to become unsafe to drink. So, water needs to be rotated through. Disposable water bottles are not ideal for large quantities of drinking water because they're incredibly wasteful. There are a lot of options for long term water storage that work in an apartment (you won't be using a 100 gallon drum, sure, but there are lots of 3 gallon, 5, 7 and 10 gallon options that you can cycle through every few months). Also, bottled water is crazy expensive compared to tap water (and most bottled water is basically just tap water bottled and shipped across the country). The cost of a couple cases of water bottles would pay for hundreds of gallons of tap water where I live. The 1 gallon per person per day number assumes a certain amount of water per day for food preparation and cleaning. In an emergency situation this number can be decreased dramatically. 1 gallon per person per day is still a fine goal to shoot for, but there are a ton of urban legends (lies) about how much water people need per day (like the 8 glasses of water per day thing). Another awesome method of water filtration that you didn't cover (most people aren't familiar with it) is SODIS (solar water disinfection). In short, with most types of plastic bottles (PETE-1 recycling code) you can leave a bottle in direct sunlight and the ultraviolet radiation will make water safe (it's used globally, but no one makes money from it, so people don't talk about it much). www.sodis.ch/methode/anwendung/ausbildungsmaterial/dokumente_material/manual_e.pdf
+zero11010 Yep I meant to talk about the toilet tanks but they don't hold that much water and you can flush the toilet without water in there anyway as long as you don't have a sewage backup. My goal is a 30 day period so my water won't go bad as long as I rotate it out. We drink enough water so that is not a problem. We drink a case then replace. I don't buy filtered water I buy spring water which IMO is much better than tap water. I'd never waste my time with the SODIS method or tablets when I have a filter that takes MUCH less time. Thanks for the comment.
Like lots of folks, I have a really good Watts filtration system under my sink. Do you - or someone else - know of a way to convert that to work for filtering water in an emergency? It would probably have to be pulled out and rigged with a gravity feed method somehow.
+SkulpTools SkulpterAz the problem is the micron size of the filters inside the canisters, they're not rated for sub micron virus/bacteria. Most home filters are 5 micron while to make it biologically safe you need .02 micron. While you can do it by gravity but normally you need 8-20 psi to push the water through the filters. Can it be done, sure but may need to chemically treat the water before running it through the filters to get rid of taste/particulate.
So something I've noticed In a lot of your videos . You seem to like smart water a lot . is it for taste , measurement, size , electrolytes? just curious I actually keep the 1 litter bottles in my prep pantry and vehicle
I like spring water vs. filtered water. Dasani for example I hate the taste of. The smart water bottles are some of the toughest out there so they work great for inline filters etc but really no other reason than that.
+Living Survival nice , I'm originally from Arizona and after moving to Colorado I can't believe the water quality here you don't even have to filter the damn water. Best water I ever drank was from cascade falls here. and I buy spring water from Eldorado it's the real deal spring water and it's amazing
Awesome vid but i would suggest watching Nutnfancys "Many will die for the want of water" Video as he does a great representation of water storage but thanks for the vid as it gives people more options to store water.
***** Don't be, I can just go to the nearest creak and fill upp an unlimited amount of fresh and clean drinkable water. Also I get free dental and hospital care, financial aid if I can't find a job or I'm unable to work, financial aids for studies together with extremely beneficial student loans, financial aid for my rent if it's too high compared to my income, paid vacation, paid parental leave, parents get 100$ per child every month, I don't have to give my house to the bank in order to get my kids through collage, my kids get free public transportation to/from school if it's located far from the house. All in all, I have fresh water everywhere and a superb parachute for me and my kins health and economical safty, so you have no need to feel sorry for me. Vote for Bernie and feel the socialism flow through you :)
I know this is about water, but I get so annoyed about people "bugging out". I live in the high desert at 6300'. I have hiked all over my AOR. Water? Where? I know of some small (read seasonal) streams. "Bug in" is the answer. I live on the edge of the urban environment. If people come out here, I will simply kill them at 402 meters. Most people will stay in an urban environment to get "assistance" from the gov't (read about Katrina 15 years ago - see how that worked out). Traffic, wrecks, disabled vehicle, etc.... Get water in your home, kill (at long distance) anyone heading your way, and in the end, fight to the end. Well, cheers!!!
wrong! 32 oz to drink or less per person per day ! no water for going to bathroom. cooking water can be filtered, recycled, and used for cleaning once a week or longer.
Here in the Philippines I also fill up my washing machine, close the lid. I have several plastic large garbage cans I fill up. I do this all the time when a typhoon is coming. I have a sawyer 3 liter and mini filtration system.
I saw you on a other vid how did a American get to the Philippines?

+Alan Williams yep .
I plan on using duct tape instead of a drain plug. My experience is that all drain plugs leak pretty fast.
Great video, I live near Toledo Ohio where we had the water crisis two years ago. I have 6 seven gallons water jugs and 15 cases of 40 count. Always have to be prepared.

Hot water tank is a good source
Grey water or unfiltered water you can use to flush the toilet.
One thing I don't often see and it is basically water is if they shut the water off your toilet won't work. if you have enough water (rain barrel for example, or a close by lake/stream) you can pour a few gallons in your toilet each day and it will flush.

Awesome vid but i would suggest watching Nutnfancys "Many will die for the want of water" Video as he does a great representation of water storage but thanks for the vid as it gives people more options to store water.

+Living Survival ahh, socialism at its best. So sorry for you.
No thanks, but I am happy for you. Have a great day!
***** Yeah figures, socialism is the same as communism to you people, can't have that now can we.
Have a fine day to you too.
top tip water your grass or whole yard as you need something nice to do, and have water fights mwhahaha mwah mwah mwhahaha
