The action is set low I'm using medium to light strings for playability...
i consider the blue grass of Toni Rice ,a good approach for practice fast picking, the system of blue grass is in the middle of anyone that like to play fast in jazz fusion, and gipsy jazz, and flamengo jazz or other musical style.
@@chrisbrennanguitar yes ,but my point was more in the technique of blue grass fast picking, and the clean sound that come out from Tony rice's Martin D28 guitar is amazing even at the speed he was playing.
Unless I'm mistaken Tony is playing the guitar once owned by Clarence White (enlarged sound hole). But does anyone know that Tony also played the Santa Cruz.
arthur ogle correct Arthur - the guitar in the video here was made to look somewhat like that guitar on a limited budget of course ! And yes also to Tony’s long standing relationship with the amazing #SantaCruzguitarcompany!!! Im sure most Rice fans would know

Maybe a bit harder than Tony... I've heard from some folks that he is not a particularly loud player. However your attack would certainly come through in a jam with fiddles and banjos. Do you pick in a bluegrass ensemble?
This is a very cool video - sounds Rice-esque but without copying him directly. There are some phrases in here that I've not heard Tony play and I think your slides are a bit heavier too.
im a rock player but have always known tonys music ... bang on about the slides too! I never played acoustic before this video and I struggle with it , thats why im digging in.. I love that rice feather style attack.. yeah I had to add afew lines myself to make it up
Chris Brennan tab?
I have no tab written out for this ben - maybe on the next one which is much better than this -- thanks chief

Man, that is some fine pickin'. I found this video today and I've watched it atleast 5 times already. What kind of guitar are you playing?

Good video, great guitar player.
Cheerz Clem
awesome !
Cheerz paco (:0)~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder if every single one of those licks were exactly from a Tony record or if some were just composed in his style. In either case, they are great.
Both - I put some filler in …in fact there’s a very old open string delta blues lick in there lol - Thankyou so for noticing that !! In the second rice tribute “the rice factor” there’s a lot more makin up licks n chords in the style… no one noticed
@@chrisbrennanguitar your commenters seem like they are mostly serious devotees of Tony. I could just be the first person to express it. Also, I knew that I owned a lot of Tony’s records, but not every single one.
Just found gem; beautiful playing, if it's not to much to ask, can I have tabs or probably a lesson on this? Because I am his huge fan and wish to learn but there's not much to start with; thank you and have a lovely day.
I will get round to that! thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!
Good luck dude!.. nobody is going to play this like that from tab!... the notes.. sure ... even the pick pattern... what you’re hearing is so much more than that his right hand is immaculate!and his timing is disgusting!he’s a machine he doesn’t fret out or buzz anything He is Flawless... every note right on the fret... those forward hammer on and back slide pull offs at the same.. are THE SICKEST licks I’ve ever heard and now seen with my own two eyes!!! WOW!!! I’ve been playing for 35 years... and I suck.. I know that now... like I said good luck!
awesome job!
Thanks buddy (:0)~~~
Great video
thanks cheif (:O)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

whats your email???
CHRIS BRENNAN alejandroperez.online@gmail.com
PS: 2019 and in still watching this video at least once a week. Amazing.
Your are right peter.I went back and read the notes on this video.Sorry about what i said.
Any info on that guitar, string selection etc? sounds really good
The guitar was bought from Homer Ledford's guitarist 25 years ago when they where on tour in Ireland they were a bluegrass band from Lexington Kentucky USA the guitar was recently modified with an enlarged sound-hole and new replica scratchplate to mirror the look of the famous "Tony rice , Clarence white guitar.. The action is set low I'm using medium to light strings for playability...
+chris brennan i knew homer , I live in Lex Ky thats awesome man, thanks for the reply
i consider the blue grass of Toni Rice ,a good approach for practice fast picking, the system of blue grass is in the middle of anyone that like to play fast in jazz fusion, and gipsy jazz, and flamengo jazz or other musical style.
Same scale too !!
But does anyone know that Tony
also played the Santa Cruz.
arthur ogle correct Arthur - the guitar in the video here was made to look somewhat like that guitar on a limited budget of course ! And yes also to Tony’s long standing relationship with the amazing #SantaCruzguitarcompany!!! Im sure most Rice fans would know
Believe Tony actually played a roundback Ovation some in early days. Wyatt now has it?
Hi Chris, what do u think about Joe Bonamassa, though he does not play on Strat quite often))) I suppose he owns Rory's Strat))) he did his Sloe Gin on that guitar)))
Yeah amazin Blues guitar'!! I like when he does The Eric Johnson soundin stuff he does (:0)-----
CHRIS BRENNAN He does a version of Johnson’s song for George that is spot on!! best cover ever!
sublime
thanks Matthew - please check out my latest Rice video here on my channel "THE RICE FACTOR"
Grande Tony
Amazing. Subbed!
Jake Ryan cheers jake!! (:0)~~

Wild Rice cheerz bud (:0)~~
God bless you sir
Keptyouwaiting12 H thanks a million good buddy (:0)~~~~~
You even got the Tony bracelet! I’ve been lookin for one similar or the same . Mind my asking where you picked up yours? Beautiful pickin🎼
Thanks Patrick ! Struggling to remember where - may have been eBay / was just for the project and not somethin I’d wear personally
@@chrisbrennanguitar thanks!
great stuff
cheerz!! (:O)~~~~
What's with the abnormally short scale on that guitar?
this is a normal d 28 style guitar 14 frets to the body
Wait.... is that NOT Tony Rice playing those licks? This is SICK! Where did you get that guitar?
It’s just a sigma guitar - a copy of a Martin - a hand saw was used somewhere down the line -- cheers chief (:0)
G.O.A.T.
Nice job, bro
hey chief (:O)~~ many thanks !!!!
What was the song playin at 03:23. The guitar playing? About a minute before the video ends .
Just a melody I put together for the end - using a digitech whammy pedal
Chris thats Tony playing in the video right? I would know those hands anywhere and the jewelry, not to mention of course the playing
thats me paying tribute to Tony.. didnt mean to mislead - was just a fun idea i thought would hopefully shed some light on those who dont know .. thanks for the comment tho!!
Love how you 'transformed' the guitar [at :27] into Clarence's.
But, you forgot to wear a vintage Bulova!
Kevin L. Thanks for noticing that!! As for the spaceview...stay tuned (:0)~~
One more thing -- Tony would absolutely not tolerate wrinkles in his suit jacket!!
;~}
