These APU's really depend on how fast your RAM is to determine its performance. Single channel memory at 4 GB and 2400mhz speed kills off any performance gains for this APU; try installing 8 GB's in dual channel with higher speeds and you will noticeably see the difference.
Yeah, this doesn't only apply to APUs but it even applies to everything but APUs gets the most performance with faster ram and dual channel than others
Thanks for reviewing the laptop because I use the same processor with 12gb ram on my laptop (BTW use Linux because windows is a crappy os for this processor, even macos/hackintosh work well on this processor)
It would be about the same, linux is lighter but not that much lighter with gaming. Emulation will be better at least due to more capable open gl drivers.
Would be worse considering most games are windows native which sucks and almost everyone hates windows but had to use it or performance loss on Windows native games

Late but Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is dodgy (changing brightness doesn't work, Linux mint has display issues) but 21.04 distros have full hardware support with no issues.
The reason why I luv ETAprime is that he review all kind of budget product. Majority tech reviewer only give reviews product that 80% of consumer cannot afford to buy.

At $250 it has 2 SO-DIMM slots that is nice often the base RAM is onboard on at this price point. In that range though just a bit more money really gets you a lot.
Not many people test games with a frame cap but I have been running red dead 2 on a 4650g and have found capping to 30 fps really smoothes out the dips. Especially when limiting power.
Congrats ETA on 1M!!! Thanks for making this review, I am planning on preordering the Aya Loki Zero. This review helped me to gauge the performance of it.
Can you test a lightweight Linux distro, such as Lubuntu or Zorin OS Lite edition? I know Zorin OS Lite did wonders on a Celeron N3350 when it was struggling on Win10.
Sorry for late reply but Linux works great on Ubuntu 21.04 with full hardware support. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS can't change brightness and Linux mint has display issues. Cloudready works well but didn't it stop getting updated after Google bought them?
Old AAA would run great. Games like Just Cause 2 (which honestly is the best in the Just Cause series as it has way fewer bugs, better optimization, and lacks denuvo) would run great. Skyrim did pretty well in the video too, and it's a much better game than those "freemium" MTX-laden titles.
I have a lenovo laptop with the same cpu. I was thinking of upgrading the ram to dual channel and now I have a good enough proof that it'll be worth it.
Dual channel is absolutely worth it on these Athlon chips. A friend of mine has one running 8gb (2x4gb) and it holds up to esport titles at 720p low just fine.

2:20 I think 3000 series AMD mobile processors (rzyen - athlon) just supports until 2400mhz, It's the same even with my ryzen 7 3700u (2400 mhz). The real change came with 4000 series going up to 3200 mhz. BTW I love your content!
I picked this up for $280 open box, I couldn't find it for $250. Not a bad product, I threw in a second stick of 4GB and ran Windows 10 Debloater and its a solid business laptop.

Love the channel mate. But please, any chance you could demo different games, it's literally the same games everytime. Sure, I understand chains of olympus is s good benchmark, but please show different games
To be fair it is Skyrim, I have an 8 year old laptop with a dual core/4 thread Intel processor using HD4600 graphics and it can nearly pull that off at 720p. I would hope a processor this much newer, with graphics from a dedicated graphics company, could do batter.
Power of AMD. I have no hope for Intel anymore even for higher end market as they still stuck at obsolete 10nm while AMD is at 5nm and 4nm for some laptop now. I’m so disappointed with how power hungry and how hot can my i5-1250P get. I bought a wrong laptop for game design class. I’m probably gonna go all AMD on a laptop like I did with my workstation computer at home.

Ahhhh I love AMD Athlon to death it’s used to be a flagship in 1999 to 2007 and these day it’s still kick Intel Pentium in the arse (Pentium used to be the flagship line in the 90s to early 2000s)
Very relevant video now that the Ayn Loki Zero is coming out for 200 USD A 6 inch 720 p windows 10 game handheld with dual analog sticks (with LED lights! *drool*), fast wifi for streaming etc is sooo cool! It will still run many games and costs far less then half of the steamdeck :) And TBH, 30 fps 720p GTA V would be perfectly playable on a 200 USD handheld as far as I am concerned. It's a handheld. 720p 30fps GTA V still looks great on a 6 inch screen and is amazing for 200 USD!
ETA I suggest you start using the java version of Minecraft for your benchmarks since the windows 10 edition can almost run on everything or at least include it...love ur videos btw
I bought this laptop not for gaming. Sure, I did some test with it, but it is not the main purpose for my use. My main use was for a cheap general purpose. I currently have 8gb in it (2x4gb) and will most likely bump it up to a 12gb (1x4gb/1x8gb) and give my 4gb ram to my brother's laptop to top it off to a 12gb as well.
they gave us this at school to studie and if we dont droo out of school after 3 year of pissessing it, we get to keep it and do whatever we want with it

I've been wanting to do a similar video with some of my favorite games, just need to get the older laptop I have set up with windows 10 for some of them to run correctly. I might have to look at one of these guys for the job instead, saves me the trouble and frees up my old machine for linux.
Not really good with PC specs but as I understand it with 8 gigs ram, I can run these without trouble: Sega cd, Dreamcast N64 MAME DOS Box for vintage games.
At 01:59 I'm pretty sure that's a connection for a sata 3 ribbon cable just south of the i/o. It says HDD there on the edge. I bet you could just source any ol' ribbon cable from the last 10 or more years and shove it in there. Not much has changed in the whole sata 3 scene for a hot minute. If you inspect the empty area closely on the side away from the battery, the bezel appears to be able to accommodate a slide-in style adapter.
Just cannot agree on a dual core config. For 2021 min specs should be a quad core with 8gb of ram and 1080p display. Storage should have a min of 120GB SSD. The Ryzen 5 2500U is a way better choice than the Athlon here.

Thanks for testing out a laptop with one of the new AMD Athlon CPUs! I've haven't seen anyone on RUclips that I subscribe to do that yet.
"41 FPS ISNT GREAT" ME WITH 25 FPS: OMGGG!!
For the price you can easily make a better pc
0:57 : This Laptop is still have SD Card Reader... Which is Midrange to High End not Available directly
I was gonna say, the more expensive the laptop, the less ports.
Definitely please do a linux video on that!
Yeah, that's perfect linux web browsing machine
These APU's really depend on how fast your RAM is to determine its performance. Single channel memory at 4 GB and 2400mhz speed kills off any performance gains for this APU; try installing 8 GB's in dual channel with higher speeds and you will noticeably see the difference.
Yeah, this doesn't only apply to APUs but it even applies to everything but APUs gets the most performance with faster ram and dual channel than others
Like he said in the video 2:15 he cant change the RAM speed and is stuck to 2400 Mhz.
If 16gb?
Thanks for reviewing the laptop because I use the same processor with 12gb ram on my laptop (BTW use Linux because windows is a crappy os for this processor, even macos/hackintosh work well on this processor)
Gaming in linux? What os u run?
@@halimmuhammad4937ubuntu. Because ubuntu is best os for Lenovo laptops
For Valorant, maybe try creating a custom resolution and set the refresh rate to 50hz and then turn vsync on.
Basically downgrading in refresh rate
This could definitely use a linux test. Would definitely be interested to see Zorin OS on this laptop
@thefallenshadow how about Ubuntu ??
Some Linux gaming would be interesting on a device like this. With a distro leaner than W10, I'd be interested in the gaming results
It would be about the same, linux is lighter but not that much lighter with gaming. Emulation will be better at least due to more capable open gl drivers.
Would be worse considering most games are windows native which sucks and almost everyone hates windows but had to use it or performance loss on Windows native games
Damn, I found this like right as it came up
@perrandy2011 linux maybe?
@perrandy2011 "perfect for shools"
I bought this laptop back in 2020. Amazing laptop for the price, never had one issue.
Hay there I purchased this laptop in 2020. I am currently able to play apex legends with friends via cross platform. It alright on the lowest setting, still slight hitching going on but totally playable.
Linux Mint would be nice to see
This laptop did VERY well. Holy crap. You can turn down the render distance in Gta to get better fps.
I have this laptop :) It's really good! I upgraded the SSD and RAM and it's so much better.
the moment GTA hits 100% on any CPU it goes into CRAZY MODE. With loading errors missing buildings and cars sinking into low-quality streets.
Try to deactivate background apps and debloat windows. Do not have taskmanager on in the background etc.
The Laptop is good enough for GTA.
I was in the market for one of these but picked up a pre-owned HP laptop with a ryzen 2300u and vega 6 for $100 cheaper, battery life's not the best but it games extremely well, I highly recommend the 2300u
Do you still use it for playing games
That’s the same laptop I have. not only did I upgrade the RAM in mine but what I also did was I also redid the thermal paste to get much better thermals.
Buying one of these tomorrow for OSRS, thank you for this review!
YES SHOW US THE LINUX ON IT
I need a new trashy laptop, my current one has a hard time running discord & chrome at the same time but its like 6+ years old
Yes I would love to see a Linux test on this hardware! :)
Late but Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is dodgy (changing brightness doesn't work, Linux mint has display issues) but 21.04 distros have full hardware support with no issues.
1366x768? Now thats a rez Ive not heard of in a loong time. 😄
Linux with Pop OS or Zorin OS please =]
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 with a Athlon 3020e (very similar CPU) and it runs Zorin OS really well
Finally, a gaming machine that is in stock and affordable.
The reason why I luv ETAprime is that he review all kind of budget product. Majority tech reviewer only give reviews product that 80% of consumer cannot afford to buy.
ETA, I think a Linux video would be great!
Are there any good laptops for gaming at $250? I've been checking around and it seems that there really aren't that many options at all
I have this laptop since last week and I upgrade the RAM into 32GB and 512GB of SSD plus I installed Ubuntu on this laptop ngl its good I use this laptop to do my Discord and play Retro games so you should be fine installing linux on this laptop
This review helped me to gauge the performance of it.
thanks, i have been using this laptop for 3 years now and turns out it was not that bad in some newer games
Can you test a lightweight Linux distro, such as Lubuntu or Zorin OS Lite edition? I know Zorin OS Lite did wonders on a Celeron N3350 when it was struggling on Win10.
Great video. Just one clarification, were the games played on the 4GB stock RAM or after you upgraded the RAM?
Killer value! With upgradeable RAM, SSD and WiFi card, I'd get that if I were on a budget. The screen looks nice. Is it an IPS panel?
Would love to see you load Linux or NeverWare and see how this would function as a low-end Linux laptop or a Chromebook.
Sorry for late reply but Linux works great on Ubuntu 21.04 with full hardware support. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS can't change brightness and Linux mint has display issues. Cloudready works well but didn't it stop getting updated after Google bought them?
I think a Linux build like Bodhi Linux or Elementary OS would be perfect for this laptop.
A Linux video for this will be great and as always thanks for posting 😉
A chip like this can play lots of indie games though, if you play those more often. But it's definitely not a AAA gaming machine lol
Cemu also works fine on 3050U (Wind waker hd works fine)
I have a lenovo laptop with the same cpu. I was thinking of upgrading the ram to dual channel and now I have a good enough proof that it'll be worth it.
Dual channel is absolutely worth it on these Athlon chips. A friend of mine has one running 8gb (2x4gb) and it holds up to esport titles at 720p low just fine.
@@DigitalJedi is a 4+8 gb dual channel or do I have to go 4+4 gb?
@@Enzed_ you can do 4+8 and have 12gb. The only reason they went with 4+4 was the cost.
3:17 god who didn't cringe on that "smooth animation" ROFL
Omg thank you for the test I ordered one for Christmas and I got the same one and price as you it’s good enough for me
Hey today i got a very similar HP laptop like this one from target. Its on sale today for 179.99 here are the specs: black color 14 inch screen 4gb ram, 128gb ssd, amd athlon 3150u processor.. im waiting it to be delivered to me..
A Linux video would nice to see.
6:42 reminds me when playing with q8400 and bad HDD connection
Just Google hp sata ribbon. Ebay has a million different ones for 5$. Should be a 10 pin ribbon. Sata ribbon connects to the "HDD" female connector by the headphone jack on the left side of mobo. Also what's the battery life? Did I miss it?
2:20 I think 3000 series AMD mobile processors (rzyen - athlon) just supports until 2400mhz, It's the same even with my ryzen 7 3700u (2400 mhz). The real change came with 4000 series going up to 3200 mhz. BTW I love your content!
damn, an m2 ssd at this price point holy shit!! the times have changed and i am so here for it
I picked this up for $280 open box, I couldn't find it for $250. Not a bad product, I threw in a second stick of 4GB and ran Windows 10 Debloater and its a solid business laptop.
I have this same computer and I upgraded and I used a DDR4 and you can tell a difference. Honestly this computer is for very lite gaming. Buying a monitor will also improve your experience. Make sure you have all setting on lowest possible.
hi! do u know if the amd athlon gold 3150u is better then the chip on this video? I’m a new gamer I normally play Roblox, gta , and fort etc. But I need a cheap laptop with decent specs for my gaming and my ae/ blender editing.
Yes please try Linux, with up-to-date kernel and drivers I'm sure you'll get more performance than Windows
Thanks for testing valorant
Love the channel mate. But please, any chance you could demo different games, it's literally the same games everytime. Sure, I understand chains of olympus is s good benchmark, but please show different games
Calling mr. Lowspecgamer! Please try to run cyberpunk 2077 in this laptop ✨🤣
The fact it can run Skyrim at 60 blows my mind
This laptop is a great value I find open box specials at Best Buy for $275-$289. Just add a second 4gb ram module and you have everything you need for daily use. It's also Windows 11 compatible!
I found one for 214$ but it’s sold out on Best Buy right now.
I'm looking at all the possibilites that my high school can be getting me because i am Running a 10 year old Acer Travelmate. I think this looks pretty damn good for a cheap laptop and looks about the same as the Travelmate is supposed to Perform.
HP 2.5" HDD Cable Hard Disk Drive Connector PartNumber L23187-001 , $14 on ebay. I got one in my HP 14 Ryzen 3250U, works great
Try playing it with Roblox, I wanted to see if its good.
(You can change the graphic quality to manual by just doing these steps; Play any games you want, Press ESC then settings, Scroll down a bit and you'll see the "Graphic Quality" is Auto, Change it to Manual and change the quality to 1 bar, done)
Ahhhh I love AMD Athlon to death it’s used to be a flagship in 1999 to 2007 and these day it’s still kick Intel Pentium in the arse
(Pentium used to be the flagship line in the 90s to early 2000s)
Very relevant video now that the Ayn Loki Zero is coming out for 200 USD
A 6 inch 720 p windows 10 game handheld with dual analog sticks (with LED lights! *drool*), fast wifi for streaming etc is sooo cool! It will still run many games and costs far less then half of the steamdeck :)
And TBH, 30 fps 720p GTA V would be perfectly playable on a 200 USD handheld as far as I am concerned. It's a handheld. 720p 30fps GTA V still looks great on a 6 inch screen and is amazing for 200 USD!
ETA I suggest you start using the java version of Minecraft for your benchmarks since the windows 10 edition can almost run on everything or at least include it...love ur videos btw
You know we've come a long way when this $250 laptop beats my old $700 laptop that ran an AMD Turion from 2008
You got my hopes up, I need one with 4 cores for software defined radio and emulation. Good deal though
I bought this laptop not for gaming. Sure, I did some test with it, but it is not the main purpose for my use. My main use was for a cheap general purpose. I currently have 8gb in it (2x4gb) and will most likely bump it up to a 12gb (1x4gb/1x8gb) and give my 4gb ram to my brother's laptop to top it off to a 12gb as well.
they gave us this at school to studie and if we dont droo out of school after 3 year of pissessing it, we get to keep it and do whatever we want with it
That's still a good price tbh. Here a celeron with 4gb ram cost around 350 usd with converted currency. Then you might as well spec a laptop to your specs and pay extra as dual core in 2021 just don't cut it cept for office work.
I’m in the process of building my gaming PC and in that process I’m playing some of these games on my laptop and it’s running decent and playable
I've been wanting to do a similar video with some of my favorite games, just need to get the older laptop I have set up with windows 10 for some of them to run correctly. I might have to look at one of these guys for the job instead, saves me the trouble and frees up my old machine for linux.
Not really good with PC specs but as I understand it with 8 gigs ram, I can run these without trouble:
Sega cd, Dreamcast
N64
MAME
DOS Box for vintage games.
Something like this would be perfect for Steam streaming.
my brother has the ryzen 3250u variant of this laptop (hp 14-dk1031dx) and it's pretty decent. got it for only $200
I definitely am interested in the video using Linux on this laptop!
Looks like a great Linux laptop! I wonder what the thermals/power management on it looks like on linux, say something like Pop_OS
Thanks for great find, share and video! SOunds like a much better choice than a chromebook for the price and best of all upgradable! Cheers! :)
I can't wait to see the next gen 7nm Athlon parts! They will probably be as good as 1st Gen Ryzen desktop quad cores!
This is still significantly better than my celeron laptop.
