OK, tone wise (LISTEN UP): The 12-string guitar has a thin body depth so as to give it a treble-y tone, and it also has an on-board pre-amp with an equalizer built into the guitar. This helps the sound engineer shape the tone of the guitar's output. Also, the heavier gauge the strings are, the less treble-y they sound - ergo, the string gauges are probably of a light gauge. One more "secret" - the pick used is either a heavy-gauge plastic or metal variety (such as a coin).
