To my brethren...In Tafelsig's embrace, I found my home, A place where childhood dreams were sown. In gangster land, where shadows crept, I navigated a world where hope was kept. In Mitchells Plain, a vibrant tapestry, I bloomed amidst the trials that befell me. With each rising sun, a new chapter begun, A kid in gangster land, learning to overcome. Streets lined with stories of hardship and strife, Yet, resilience thrived in every child's life. We played hide-and-seek with danger's gaze, In the midst of chaos, we still found our ways. In dusty alleys, where secrets were shared, Laughter echoed, unburdened and unimpaired. With marbles in our pockets and dreams in our hearts, We defied the odds, playing our own parts. Amidst graffiti walls and whispers of fear, We yearned for a future that held promise near. For in our hearts, a fire burned bright, Igniting dreams too powerful to smother or slight. With scraped knees and wide-eyed wonder, We dared to dream, our spirits unencumbered. Though gangster land had its tales of woe, We found solace in the friendships that did grow. Oh, Tafelsig, my crucible of strength, You taught me resilience, a precious gift. Through trials and tribulations, I learned to stand, A kid from gangster land, now strong and grand. And as I look back on those formative years, I cherish the memories, tinged with both joy and tears. For in gangster land, I found a wellspring of pride, A testament to the spirit that never subsides. Love: Yazeed ( resident @ 19 Keeromsberg, Tafelsig (1984-1996)
Thanks for the video. This was the first time I've seen a video that shows another this side of Cape Town. I live in Mitchell's Plain and and proud of it so I really enjoyed seeing this.
My brother and myself with a friend who was visiting from a different province stayed with his aunt in this area Tafelsig, Freedom Park which you walked through. So this friend visited us to hang out with that day at our place but he has a tendency to leave late at night between 11pm - 1am, we told him he can't stay late because of the dangers in Tafelsig, it's very dangerous at that time to walk outside. So that day he visited late and left around 12am, so my brother and I walked with to his aunts home, it a 15 - 20 min walk from our place to his aunt, keeping in mind that majority of the street lights don't work, and dark. You were near to his aunts house when you asked the guy to speak about Tafelsig, than you guys turned right, on the corner on your left where the white car was parked, so across on the the corner of that field, we saw to men, gangsters, we were probably like 15 - 20 meters distance from them, then we noticed the that the one man nodded to his friend to go to that house, the door was open, and went in straight to the room, and 6 - 8 shots were fired killing a man in front of a child and the mom, the three of us witnessed a hit taking place in that house. They saw us standing in the middle of road and saw everything, it was dark and we couldn't see their faces, they looked at us and looked at them, the crazy thing is we did not run away when it happened and was not afraid or scared. After the hit took place, the two men ran away across that field and we proceeded to walk our friend home which just 10 meter from where we witnessed the hit, then my brother and I walked a different route to our home just to be safe. This took place about 10 years ago.
Also I think Hanover park was labeled most dangerous. I know a lady I was at church with she is a teacher at a primary school in Hanover park and every other week she is posting on fb about one of her students or former students who died because of the gangs. Truly sad though. We have many social problems on the cape flats
Tafelsig is not the most dangerous place Hanover park, manenberg & Delft is The so called coloureds comes from all these places like Woodstock & Cape town they were tagged as Coloureds & dumped there on the Cape flats they are Khoi Khoi & San people
Cap. They are mixed breeds. They are a mix of Dutch thugs and khoi people. Hence the coloureds are so violent, it's that Dutch colonizer blood in them.
You should visit delft it's one of the few township where there's like a mix of coloured and Xhosa(black) people in one neighborhood where it's 50/50 of the population Edit: Delft is in Cape Town
Prefer your old filming approach. Not feeling these voiceovers. At 6:14 in this video, I immensely enjoyed the live footage. That is the real you bro. [ Remember- it is what the viewers want; not too much from your lens. I want to see more of the ghetto of Capetown. The inside of the houses, talking and filming the locals, restaurants, females. ]
My wife is from capetown and I’ve been there 3 times . Line any place it’s wrong place at the wrong time . Just be vigilant while stopping for robots (lights) but overall I’ve had nothing but great times there , Lekka man
Only certain sections or streets that is no go of the areas and suburbs. Cape Flats is not all gangsters . Suburbs like Thornton, Pinelands, Athlone , Crawford , Westside, Eastridge , Strandfontein etc, is all working people with high esteem , studied higher also, even areas in Tafelsig..
Woodstock use to be a place for people of colour. But because of gentrification most was moved, but there is still some gang activity there, Mitchell's plain isn't the most dangerous place in Cape Town
Woodstock is not dangerous compared to other areas, i stayed in Woodstock for many years and I think you meant "tafelsig" but its still not as bad as other areas, i stayed in tafelsig. I also stayed in Parkwood and also hanover park, Now that is dangerous. Manenberg and delft and Phillipi and gugulethu is also very dangerous but please don't go there.
Why do you never come to the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town bro? You're always just in the City centre and Cape flats. Also, you should go to the "ghettos" in Joburg as well, like Eldorado Park.
Only American who has the cuts to go into the areas of Cape Town not shown to tourist. Grateful as a so called coloured who lived in Plain for more than 20 years Mitchell's Plain
You are one crazy dude. U have balls bru. They ll rob u in Tafelsig or u ll get killed...!!! Does nt matter if that guy is ur cousin. That place has it s own rules!!!

Mitchells Plein is actually translated as Mitchells Square and not Mitchells Plane. A plein is the Afrikaans word for square as in a town square

my word to AFRICAN AMERICANS - when you come to SOUTH AFRICA ( and we embrace you all to come here and even stay here) but please DO NOT pack in your political understanding - LEAVE IT IN AMERICA - in fact before you board your plane - turn and face AMERICA for the last time and say "I FORGIVE YOU " and come as a FREED HUMAN being - otherwise no matter where you go , you still be a slave - and your slave masters still control you - come and meet people ( in person ) and have personal experiences , that you can make your own
