    Very informative video! Honest and relatable in all walks of corporate life. Sometimes we got to make tough choices regardless the org/ brand we are with. I am sure the decision to leave Google might not have been a easy one but comes along the learnings and experiences with it. May you share many such insights and post more videos that great work can be done in any org, all we need is an environment to thrive and grow well.

    Reorgs will happen everywhere. I worked at Getir, competition to DoorDash, even there I had at least 6 managers in 3 years because of restructuring. Finally lost my job to a lay off 3 years later 😂

      I had a record in my org for having 10+ managers within 5yrs ... No change in role or team but just strange luck of managers either leaving or being shuffled.

    Any recommendations for freshers with a data science degree trying to get their first job? Seems like anyone hiring DS people wants 3+ years of experience

      That's the case with most jobs nowadays unfortunately, not just DS. The job market is tough, even IITians are not getting that good of packages. You have to keep trying and hope for it to improve at the same time.

      not with data science degree man... atleast should have gone with data engineer or analyst. you wont get a single call with that experience. even people with Phd are struggling these days . market is very tough

    I'm currently closing in on one year in a Sales & Marketing role for a major edtech player. I majored in Mechanical from a top Uni and have been wanting to make the switch to tech for a very long time. Google is a dream company.

    1. As you mentioned in reason 2, is pace of work and hence learning, generally slow in big MNCs?
    2. Are promotions more tenure based rather than performance based at MAANGs too?
    3. Is there a better chance of landing interview calls if we go through these institutes like Scaler/Bosscoder/Odin/etc. than applying directly or searching for referral yourself?

      2. No. It's visibility and "impact" based.
      3. If you're completely new in IT field, then yes. Otherwise, doesn't make much difference.

    Is doing Mtech in IIT Bombay or top 7 IITs still relevant and then get into Google through placements because I am preparing for GATE Exam. I am not doubting my decision but just want to know your opinion that is doing Mtech still worth it because OpenAI just launched GPT o1 defeating 89% of people in codeforeces. Please share your opinion.

      It's easier to get into through campus placements with those colleges apart from that, in off-campus it has little to no effect. That becomes even more true after you get 2+ years.

      You can get job anywhere you want because of IIT brand . As you told chart GPT 1o has arrived now it is more important for you to clear GATE and get into IIT because if any filters apply first normal employees would go not you . And not just that the network you will make at IIT is also valuable.

      Hey, unfortunately the number of applications in these companies are typically really large. it is usually a matter of luck in terms of getting shortlisted for the interview. In terms of what to expect after the interview, please check out the very first video I have uploaded on this channel.

      Whenever I applied, I only applied through careers page. Doordash and TII (dubai) are the only companies I applied to within 6 months. It's hard to find a role in the first place that pays you more than Google. So my options were limited, but good ones.

    How did you plan your switch from Data Science to Software Engineering? Is it just the title Sr. SWE, or you have changed your focus area?

      It is a subtle change. Even though i am a swe, i am still working on the products focused on data/ai landscape. It's focused on application more than pipelines. wanted to try this field as well.

      I mostly prepared by leetcoding. I didn't specifically prepare for system design, data modeling rounds since that was my strong suit.
      I was surprised to get an interview purely on stakeholder management (apart from behavioural), which was difficult because of novenlty of questions.
      Overall it was a positive experience. Onsite Rounds happened with a couple of days after I cleared the first DSA round.

      I have no idea about tech or work culture there but since it's a known brand in India, I don't think you'll have any problem in switching down the line!

      With 2 YOE and given what you currently make, you should aim for at least 100% increment while switching

      Python, sql, cloud, distributed compute (snowflake/spark), kafka, airflow etc. I would also add LLM application knowldge in it nowadayd.

      With IIT Bombay you can pretty much get anywhere but that's not the only way to get into Google. You don't have to go that path. Personally, I am not a big fan of doing masters from India.

      Job market is bad in both of them. Just focus on the long term and ask yourself what type of work do you like more. Take that leap of faith in that direction

      Manager tried to retain me but I didn't accept :) why is it so hard to believe people can leave companies like Google wilingly. It's not all flowers in any company, trust me, they do make it look like it is from outside.. Maturity is when you know it is the right time to leave without being afraid.

      Mostly byilding new features on data products or pipelines. Day to day also changes based on stage of project for example, it can be different during a UAT vs project inspection.

      My manager is in US but they are hiring some people here. Many companies are doing this for cost cutting. But that increases the salary in India.
