Not in your video, but Samuel Koch's injury during the famous German gameshow "Wetten, dass..." was one of, if not the worst incident in the show and it showed once again how quickly things can go all south. Fortunately he lives to tell the tale. That could've ended way worse.
Probably was just too serious for the format. And I'd totally agree with that. Worst thing we got here was a broken leg, with the victim making fun of the injury the day after vs a guy on spring-loaded boots, trying to jump over a car (driven by his father) coming towards him, failing, and ending up quadriplegic. There was a lot of stupid stunts on that game show, but this one was Jackass levels of dumb (I could have sworn it was much longer ago as, but it turns out its only been 13 years)

Funny story with how much the scalp bleeds...my mom was in color guard in high school and twirled the rifles. One of her teammates got hit in the head with the butt of the rifle during practice one day and started bleeding a lot (even though it was a small cut). Several teammates took her over to the ER and told the staff she got hit with a rifle. The police showed up a few minutes later, saw the amount of bleeding, and started questioning her. Then the team realized how the ER staff had interpreted the situation and clarified it was a very fake rifle and at color guard practice haha.
@@thelegioncollectiveThe folks eho twirl flags and sometimes fake rifles and sabers during a marching band performance. I did it in high school and had so many concussions, dislocations, and broken bones. I still miss it, though.
I had a similar injury… walked into a clothing rack while working at a basic lingerie store. I hear my coworker as I come out of the stock room say, “Ah… you should fix your makeup.” Which was our store code for ‘you’re injured and it’s visible’ Working there, we had one woman who was in roller derby, one who’s accident prone, and one who was in boxing. We were frequently bruised or injured… selling underwear is dangerous!
Fear Factor never struck me as truly dangerous because even though the things they are doing are technically dangerous, I always figured that show had to have a million safety precautions in place to ensure no one would get seriously injured - otherwise it would kill the show and obviously the showrunners don't want that.
Probably so. My mind goes to the one contest where the contestant was allergic to the fish that they had to eat for the round. When picking out the part they would eat from inside the fish, she had a reaction and that was it for her. Just something unexpected that was thankfully didn't end up worse.

"Stairs are the best AND worst human invention." I about spit my water through my nose. I'm an Ehlers-Danlos patient who fell down the stairs twice in 10 days. First a sprain, then a fracture. I *FEEL* this.
Seriously! I slipped and fell down my basement stairs a few times. I landed on my tailbone, but it didn't feel like it was fractured or bruised. It hurts if I sit on it for a while. I would trip going up the stairs at my old high school since they were kinda steep.
@@StephALowry29The tail bone (coxicx)- probably spelt wrong, Is a very persevering bone, but also very fragile. I’ve injured myself a few times resulting in weeks of not sitting down, one accident being falling down the stairs. So I get it. You just have to to wait it out if it’s not broken, unfortunately.
Hard to implement in real life… I’ll say. My mom is an ER doctor and she saved the lives of three family members now. The first was my grandfather who fell in the backyard and broke his neck. The second was my aunt who developed a tooth infection that spread to the tissues underneath her jaw and almost closed her airway. She went to the ER and they ignored the signs and sent her home. My mom recognized what was going on and insisted on sending her back demanding a new provider. If she had gone to sleep that night, her throat would’ve closed and she would’ve died in her sleep. The third was my father who about a month and a half ago had a thunderclap headache, a seizure, among other things right there in their living room. He had a subarachnoid hemorrhage. I told her this is getting a little bit ridiculous 😅
My son’s wisdom teeth were literally rotated 90 degrees in his mouth. They were oriented laterally vs vertically. His orthodontist was waiting for his second molars to come in before removing his braces. At 17, they still hadn’t emerged on the bottom. It was then realized that his laterally oriented wisdom teeth were blocking the eruption of his second molars (12 yr molars). Braces came off, wisdom teeth removed, second molars came in, and his mouth is beautiful!

Dr. Mike! The clip where the snakes are biting the competitors triggered a great idea for your channel. A fellow RUclipsr, Chandler’s Wild Life, recently put out content of his experience where he was in India and was bitten by an Indian Cobra. He talks about his experience not only with the bite, but with the healthcare system and where he feels like people are not educated enough on how to help people who may happen to go through that situation. I feel like you would be greatly interested in what he experienced in the hospitals not only here in the US but in India as well. It was a crazy story. Thanks for the great content!
[8:10] Here's a little medical story for me My middle school had bleachers and they're about 8ft high, give or take. I, with a history of falling down stairs, face planted from the top step to the concrete floor and hit my temple. I just casually got up, got on the bus, and went home. Went to the hospital the day after and was perfectly fine, nothing but a single bruise. We're still confused, and I am now banned from going up most bleachers :)
8:04 what a KING - reminds me of how Dave Grohl broke his leg during a Foo Fighters performance and still finished playing the show while sitting in a chair next to an EMT splinting him up. The show must go on!
About the impacted wisdom teeth, I had one surgically removed. It was enough to get me a swelling which looked like I had a golf ball in my mouth. The swelling took like 10 days before it started reducing. It is one of those things I would never want to experience again!
I had to have all four of mine cut out during a single visit. I was 24 years old at the time and the dentist (surgeon), who had practiced for over 35 or so years told me that I had the smallest adult mouth he'd ever seen in his life!
I just got mine out this past Friday. For me I swelled a bit and it was sort of painful, but I went to a dance event that same evening. I’m doing so much better than a few days ago which I’m really happy about
@@colosine Yeah, It really matters from person to person... I was 16 when I had it removed by the most renowned dentist in my city. I didn't take the painkillers unless it started hurting a lot (I still took only half a pill when it did). It really matters from person to person and mine was buried in really deep in my jaw. My second molar was blocked by the wisdom teeth.
I would love to see a sports injury one with what other protection they SHOULD make mandatory based on your opinion, specifically since the sad passing of Adam Johnson and the question of whether neck guards should be mandatory.
They have pretty good cut/stab proof materials that they could have some decent protection covering their whole body at this point. Plus I'm sure they can make some pretty flexible shock absorbing materials for the neck but the question is mostly how much they're willing to spend on protecting their players.
That's exactly what I was thinking the other day too, there really needs to be neck guards in hockey, even if the chances of someone getting their neck sliced open is so little compared to the injuries knee pads can prevent... It's still just as important, especially now that this happened, since it's more fatal.
I had to have all four of my severly impacted wisdom teeth taken out. I had to be put under general anaesthesia. I had huge chipmunk cheeks and it took ages to heal. It did help a lot with my chronic jaw pain though
5:10 To be fair, superficial face injuries, especially near the eye, tend to bleed a lot! I took a tumble while rollerblading once as a kid and got a cut just under my right eye. My face was covered in blood before I could even walk home 10 minutes later.

I have hyper mobility so my joints are always dislocating; especially my shoulders and hips. However, my knees, wrists, jaw, toes and fingers have all been dislicated. Ive learned how to pop my joints back into place and i have exercises to do to keep my joints in place for the majority of the time.
Do you know the case of Samuel Koch? He bet that he can jump over a car on one of the most successful German television shows ever, which involves betting against the host. He could actually do it, had always managed it in all the rehearsals beforehand, but broke his spine during the live broadcast on television in front of millions of viewers and has been paralyzed ever since.
Dr Mike is very expressive and passionate with his delivery. I've never had my wisdom teeth extracted, maybe I've got no wisdom 😂. I have had a few head injuries one bring two subaracnoid aneuyrism, I think that beats wisdom teeth. No competition. But some of the injuries look awful, as a paramedic we would sometimes be on call for some game shows. 😊

What you mentioned about dislocations and loosening muscles. That's what makes hypermobility and other joint disorders so dangerous, it's that every time it happens your joints get worse and worse, to the point that subluxations and dislocations become just a regular part of your everyday life. Alot of my friends or people who meet me are usually freaked out when they find out that I have subluxated or dislocated joints literally every other day, to me it's become normal, but it reminds me just how truly odd it is when other people react the ways they do😂

3:45 Just had a tiny avulsion fracture a few months ago. Not to serious, just had a little bruising line along the side of my ankle but I think most of the pain was from my sprained ankle. Eventually was able to wear a boot and get my ankle healed back up. The doctor said I needed to do a follow up appointment but my parents said that it was so small that I didn't need one, lucky me.
If you can find it, check the episode and brief documentary about a game show called Dog eat dog. They did a stunt on the show where the contestants had to be submerged under water, and one of the contestants ended up with brain damage due to lack of oxygen.
The pain from a wisdom tooth is horrible because it radiates to the ear too and the gum tissue around it if it’s partially erupted can get inflamed and it’s called pericoronitis

Not in your video, but Samuel Koch's injury during the famous German gameshow "Wetten, dass..." was one of, if not the worst incident in the show and it showed once again how quickly things can go all south. Fortunately he lives to tell the tale. That could've ended way worse.
He had it in his thumbnail before he changed it. Maybe he had to take it out because ZDF is strict with claiming clips
There was a lot of stupid stunts on that game show, but this one was Jackass levels of dumb (I could have sworn it was much longer ago as, but it turns out its only been 13 years)
What was his injury?
@@GmmBeast just like chachalon said, he was wearing spring-loaded boots, and jumping over cars. he failed to clear the fourth car, and landed what looks to be face-first on the floor. i believe he broke his neck, which caused him to be quadriplegic. he's still very optimistic about life though! studying acting, and doing theatre
@@zookie3737 Sorry, I thought they were referencing something different, since I didn't know what Samuel Koch's injury was 😅 I got confused by how the comment was phrased haha.

Your not concerned about the tiddies in the thumbnail? Heheh

What's color guard?
@@thelegioncollectiveThe folks eho twirl flags and sometimes fake rifles and sabers during a marching band performance. I did it in high school and had so many concussions, dislocations, and broken bones. I still miss it, though.
@@LaurenWisniewski06I did it in high school, college, and did winter guard and had my few shares of crazy incidents including fainting on a field
I had a similar injury… walked into a clothing rack while working at a basic lingerie store. I hear my coworker as I come out of the stock room say, “Ah… you should fix your makeup.” Which was our store code for ‘you’re injured and it’s visible’
Working there, we had one woman who was in roller derby, one who’s accident prone, and one who was in boxing. We were frequently bruised or injured… selling underwear is dangerous!
@@icarusbinns3156 I'll believe it, my sister nearly put her eye out on a bra rack as a kid!
Fear Factor never struck me as truly dangerous because even though the things they are doing are technically dangerous, I always figured that show had to have a million safety precautions in place to ensure no one would get seriously injured - otherwise it would kill the show and obviously the showrunners don't want that.
The viewers love it when people get injured
Probably so. My mind goes to the one contest where the contestant was allergic to the fish that they had to eat for the round. When picking out the part they would eat from inside the fish, she had a reaction and that was it for her. Just something unexpected that was thankfully didn't end up worse.
in one of the copy cat shows some one died, a few ppl almost did on the main show, i think a rigger on fear facter also almost died

14:10 as a Australian citizen I can tell you that “copped a flogging” means you smacked it to hard or get court. So in this case John grant smacked his knee so hard that he hurt knee
If you land on your leg or ankle wrong no matter how far you fell it hurts like hell
She found her calling alright. Being the hero your family needs!
your mom not only got her profession right, but also became a family angel of sorts lol. props to her!
I’m amazed at how much doctors have to know and understand. I mean the body is so complicated.
9:51 My father was an OB/GYN, and he delivered me. He was in the Air Force stationed at a remote base in Maine and there was only one other doctor qualfied to run the delivery, so he was there. And I came out breech, feet first, so there were complications. All went well. His patients loved him, but no more than his patient that day.
Ryan breaking the neon light with his head will never fail to make me laugh, that's an iconic Whose Line moment.
Was not expecting a WLIIA moment in this! Now I want to rewatch the classics 🤠
Yes! Especially how he kept going with the bit while everyone is asking "Are you okay?"
Ryan Stiles has always been one of my absolute favorites, especially for his Carol Channing impressions.
Dr.
I’m an ER nurse in a small hospital and really think that education and spreading awareness the way you do is so important!
I remember seeing the list of injuries caused by Takeshi's Castle. That show was savage lol
[8:10] Here's a little medical story for me
My middle school had bleachers and they're about 8ft high, give or take.
Seeing Mike reacting to video feels so wholesome even though the injuries are so painful
I love that scene from whose line is it anyway. Glad Ryan was ok and love how he could play it off in hoedown
I love that Dr Mike still uses “peewoop” to censor cussing 🤣
The snake game almost made me cry.
I had all my wisdom teeth cut out, too, and after the procedure I looked like a chipmunk for about a week. It was so painful.
8:04 what a KING - reminds me of how Dave Grohl broke his leg during a Foo Fighters performance and still finished playing the show while sitting in a chair next to an EMT splinting him up. The show must go on!
As a young snake owner, I hate hate hate when people use any animal in shows for drama and they think the creature is dangerous.
Makes my blood boil, not a snake owner though.
About the impacted wisdom teeth, I had one surgically removed. It was enough to get me a swelling which looked like I had a golf ball in my mouth. The swelling took like 10 days before it started reducing. It is one of those things I would never want to experience again!
That's what I want to hear a week before I have one removed xD
I had to have all four of mine cut out during a single visit. I was 24 years old at the time and the dentist (surgeon), who had practiced for over 35 or so years told me that I had the smallest adult mouth he'd ever seen in his life!
@@colosineit depends on the person. Mine went super smooth, I was literally at dance practice the next day. For some people it’s worse
9:51 My science teacher used to work as an EMT and got called to a car accident. Turns out one of the people who died in that accident was either his college best friend or older brother (I forgot which one it was)

My wisdom teeth came in a couple years early (age 15) and were impacted. It was so hellish that even the pain of recovery was relieving
Yeah you definitely had a head injury with the way you spell

Late to the game but absolutely listen to Mike brain injuries are no joke and not always obvious. Good job for learning the difference between poison and venom
Did absolutely no one else realize that the man in the snake video thing is Chris from Bondi Vet? I mean A] of course the snakes wouldn't be venomous that's a lawsuit waiting to happen but I'm almost more concerned that a vet was there hosting that. He's (from what I've seen of his show) a very responsible caring person.
Yeah, I saw him. I was wondering what he was doing there.
lol I literally just paused the video to post this. Like, what is happening?!
6:44 they have brought this back now Dr. Mike

Great laugh and valuable information in one video. Thank you Dr. Mike ❤
I've always heard it as, if it bites you and you die, it's venomous, and if you bite it and you die, it's poisonous.
13:18 - A partner of mine has some internal scarring from blood clots she got in her chest. It's made mammograms difficult for her as it'll come up with a whole bunch of false positives if they're not paying careful enough attention.
Interesting one of the worst accidents in game show history, shown in the thumbnail, is not talked about in the video, why? For all who are wondering german game show called "Wetten Dass" contestant Samuel Koch had an accident during a challenge that left him a quadriplegic.
