There are many things wrong with the Internet but the best part is that it offers us the breadcrumb trail that leads from one wonderful musician too another. Rick Beato led me here as he did many others and I am so thankful he did. The music is beautiful and it is amazing that you present it with such modesty.
Same, Rick Beato is a treasure that led to a treasure - this is on my playlist on repeat - my ONLY playlist, with only 16 songs. The songs that play my soul and must learn.
Wow! I've been playing guitar for 40 years and just learned more about inversions and voice leading in the last 30 minutes watching your video. Thanks!
This song woke up my dormant feeling for music once again. After the years, at some point, playing guitar became just like lifting weights, just improving skills. I kinda forgot why I loved music so much in the first place... That was until I heard your music. So, I just wanted to take a minute to say: Thank you. 🙂
Just wanted to thank you for "this will only end in tears", it's a superb tune. I've written loads of songs, but nothing that has the simple sophistication of this tune. Something to be proud of..
What's really great about Alan is that he plays with the rhythmic tightness of a rock musician but with the detailed focus of a classical guitarist (e.g. making sure the leading voice is legato, that certain voicings are emphasized)!
I’ve just bought your album in bandcamp and I’m fascinated. This song is profoundly touching, music and lyrics. Everything you do squanders emotion. I wish you the recognition you deserve, it will proof that there’s a bit of justice remaining in the world! Keep following your heart and we will follow you. Greetings from Spain.
Hat or no hat you have a tremendous gift ,I listened to the whole album the other day I swore I heard ,Brian may, U2,even Satriani influence in the playing amazing
Amazing that you took the time to create this tutorial (and indeed - relearn the song :-D ). Got the first part down on my own, looking forward to working on the rest. Very interesting to get insight into how you think about music and composing, too. And for the record, the "classical stuff" and especially the Chaconne is amazing, but I won't be asking for tutorials... (As the other person commented - that would definitely end in tears...)
wow, I learn something every day. I love Lacramsa! I learned it on piano! I bet it would sound amazing on classical Guitar! Such an amazing song by the way! Thx for posting!
This is just what I needed at this point in my guitar life. First of all thanks to Rick for leading us to your channel - the Bach $hit is mindblowing. I've been playing guitar for around 35 years, 10 of those fingerstyle (after hearing Tommy Emmanuel and being blown away), which fits me the best. This tutorial (and other that I've sampled) really resonates with me and the concepts that I previously heard in theory I can now hear in the sort of music I tend to play. And the details, the explanations of the thinking and the feelling behind almost each little detail in the song just add to the joy of listening and looking at this. And If you haven't yet, please check out Nick Drake. Some of his songs are hauntingly similar to yours, I think you would enjoy his music.
I don't play guitar or any other instrument (though I do sing in church) but this was fascinating to watch and I watched it all through! RUclips recommendation to another video. This is my fourth. Maybe it's time for me to look until getting a guitar and starting the journey... 🤔
Best lesson, your a great teacher and what a song wow. Thank you Alan. I like how you think of music as a free miracle we can choose to accept. I'm trying not to waist it or miss it
@@AlanMearns-YesTheRaven also as I am a professional guitarist I think it would be very interesting to offer us a tutorial on classical guitar technic, especially for the demanding pieces of Bach! It seems your playing is more in tune, and when I compare piano interpretations we guitarists find it difficult to achieve the balance of the sound as a pianist! So, it is your guitars, your technic? All these are very important to me! Heavy strings? All this.....! Thank you anyway!
THANK YOU for YOU and your Music and if ANYBODY throws shade at whatever hat your wearing...well....I know some folks...LOL Seriously, you deserve all the success and happiness you want. #RESPECT
I have that same T-shirt! Mine says security on the back. I used to work the door at Tír na nÓg in Raleigh, NC sometimes back in the day before it closed.
Again thank you! I really love the picking pattern and am Able to play the first 6 chords! If you quickly state what what frets you are playing with each finger it would be easier to follow along :)
I can’t quite discern the 3’rd verse clearly. I’d love to see a lyric sheet for this. Deeply ethereal and resonate composition. Thank you to Ric Beato for pointing me in your direction. P.s. your Bach arrangements are beyond words…. Thank you
I’m loving all of this and Im learning how to think about and put together a song to evoke the emotions. Thank you Alan. I have so many questions; what are you using for strings? How are you keeping nails on your right hand? I tear mine up and get fuzzy tone when it happens. Where are you touring lately?
Heard your music on Rick Beato, really like the almost pastoral sound of the first record, it has a gravitas and weight like listening to Nick Drake, what can I say, it's been a long time since I heard some music that I would actually go and buy, thanks
This is such a beautiful gift for us guitar aficionados. Thank you for your generosity, Alan. What a masterpiece! Any chance anyone can post the lyrics?
hi thanks for the tutorial. By the way i can't find the video of this song in youtube or youtube music premium. was it removed from the platform? i could swear that i had it in my playlist in youtube music premium but now i can't find it. could you please tell me whats is going on? thanks.
Great video ALan, This great chords inversion and why you use them this is very precious since writing a song is such a hard process, end up most of the time not able to finish songs when I have ideas. Question about the C inverted ? Can't see clearly what you play and the descending bass line ? BTW beautiful song and great exercice for picking pattern
And a beautiful man too! Do you mind telling me what classical guitar you record with? La Bella recording strings by any chance? Thanks for your reply also.
The classical guitar I recorded with was made 25 years ago by Enrico Bottelli, an Italian Luthier. I’m getting a cedar one made by Zeb Turrentine for the upcoming Chopin and Spanish stuff. The strings are normal daddario The basses are lightly polished ones. 👍🏻
Hi can someone help me with this song lyrics english is my third language so..... i have searched the internet all main lyrics sites but couldn't find it if some kind soul could please help i would post it in one or two lyrics sites. thanks
Amazing song! I beg you, please, can you tell me what the lyrics is to this masterpiece? English is not my native language, so, every time I want to understand and hear every word, but can't( Thank you!
maybe a powdered wig for the classical? maybe start the videos in silhouette, a special mechanism drops the wig on your head, spotlight comes on, and you look really serious. then we'll know "it's CLASSICAL TIME!!!" seriously, though; this is cool stuff 😊
Really enjoying your tutorials. Have started watching your finger picking videos, but have a question on left hand technique. In your classical videos the neck is up (standard classical guitar posture i think), but in your non-classical stuff the neck is more horizontal, but it appears your left hand is still in a classical posture, thumb behind the neck. Is one more comfortable than the other? Why do you use the two different postures?
It's funny because I've known people who could read music like a machine but, could not pick up things by ear. And I've known others who could hear something and just play it after a couple listens but, could not read a note of music.
This will only end in tears, coincidentally,is also how I will feel if I try to play along with that masterpiece of a song.
😂
😄
Whenever I listen to this song it reminds me of a relationship I got into knowing that it would only end in tears…. And then it ended in tears

I keep my nails shaped a polished for classical guitar.
I’m lucky they’re pretty hard.
Still figuring that out.
How cool would it be if Alan opened up for Rick on his 3 dates this summer?
Absolutely love this song. Glad I found you via Rick 😎
