I remember playing this at a friends house when I was 10 and being blown away that Murray Walker, the guy I'd listen to on the TV, would actually commentate what you were doing in game, It was mind blowing at the time!

I had this game and played it to death. The reason for that line was that they didn’t have the rights to use Jacques Villeneuves name. He was referred to as ‘Player One’ on the screen.

@@Dave_H834 I’m sure he had his name licensed to his own game which was a flop. In 1998 he was referred to as “Williams #1” but you could edit the name so I always changed it.
In my family, "You're right there Murray", is a running joke to this day..

The name of Jacques Villeneuve is missing due to copyright issues, so Murray just refers to him as 'The Canadian' throughout the entire game!!
If memory serve’s me He famously when t on about how he learned all the tracks via his PlayStation. And therefore thought he was entitled to more money cos of the free publicity.

The commentary when changing gears is actually really good
Not even Alex Jacques and James Hinchcliffe can replicate what Walker does when drivers changing gears.
The 96' F1 game had already featured Murray's sensational commentary. His high pitched voice is as missed these days as the high pitched V10 engines.
I wouldnt say the engines are missed at all.... these new turbo hybrids outperfrom them on a cc basis.... and if you just want something loud and dont care about anything else, just turn on you vacuum when watching f1
@@ChrisDied I can tell you're not a car guy. Its not just about "huh duh... car go VRROOOM!". The V10 sound is missed coz of its tone and raw aggressive feel. At the track, you could feel the vibrations through your body. Everyone knows todays cars are faster, but its the character of those older engines that are missed. Its also why we like classic muscle cars, over a Tesla. Teslas are faster, but a v8 sounds better

Murray Walker (affectionately known as Muddly Talker) was an absolute class act and a true gentleman. His enthusiasm for all motorsport (but especially bike racing) was infectious.

This is no surprise. It's Psygnosis. They were among the God tier of game developers. To this day, I lament their dissolution, even though members of the studio went on to work on other projects. I remember playing this game and getting destroyed by the cornering physics. Mastering it to place in the top 3 was a real accomplishment!

I absolutely loved this game when it came out. I played it one day, with a terrible steering wheel set-up and a chair that was higher than the table the wheel was sitting on. Played it for 13 hours straight one day and couldn't stand up straight for two days after. The things we do for the love of a game!

F1 24 doesnt have driver substitutes like F1 1995 nor even a special track that can be unlocked by entering password or by winning all 16 races from 1995 F1 Season either.😢
We need to see this commentary in new F1 games
They could legitimately use this commentary and create a historic mode/setting where you could turn it on, I would love that!
F1 really lost someone significant when Murray passed on. I'm just glad that he left a lot of memories for the fans to cherish forever.
What a game that was! It's hard to convey how revolutionary this was. Amazing (480i) 3D graphics with high quality commentary from the legend who actually did the F1 commentary on the telly, and with such detail! The PlayStation was an amazing console when it launched and it took games to a whole new grown-up level.
Fairly sure there was a option or cheat for this game that made the commentary totally random, making Murray sound completely of his rocker, thus making it even more Murray realistic! Brings back many memories of gaming and also F1 memories of which I'm a huge fan. Murray Walker is a legend.

My first ever game on my first PS console. Thanks for uploading. This game was awesome and the commentary till this day is still in my head from all those years ago. There is also some awesome input from Martin Brundell in the game too and when in practice mode he talks you through every corner. Was a really cool game in it time.
A lot of innovations are gone from games today. Another example that comes to mind is the highlight reel feature in Need For Speed Road & Track game where you could see the replay that showed only the passes and other highlights instead of the whole race. I wonder why they ditched these system instead of improving them over time through new game releases.
That's what the replay system in ACC does, and I believe even in F1 2021 with the highlights? It shows to whole first lap and then any notable happenings from the rest of the race like overtakes etc.
Yeah the divers in a real f1 race hear the race commentary while they drive, super realistic, why did they ever stop that???

Why current F1 games haven’t got an option to have commentary I don’t know. Think it would add to the game. Like FIFA.
Because code masters and liberty are money whores and have been rebranding the same game as a new title for 10 years
They replaced it with team radio stuff right? So you may not get commentary but you get the more immersive team radio chatter, which is actually quite detailed. I do wish commentary would be an option for casual modes though.
@Upon-Fe the problem is that each country has just own commentary now. Back with Murray it was pretty much just him and Martin, now lots of different people do it. I couldn't name one single commentator since Murray died.
as much as I love Murray Walker, commentary in the new F1 games wouldn't feel right, do the drivers hear them? nope. However, if there was commentary in a full race replay after the race, that would work. as long as they stick to external cameras.
@@8-bitsteve500 yeah casual arcade modes and replay modes would be the only place to realistically have commentary.

My first ever console game, played it loads! It also had full length races and dynamic weather which was awesome for the time.
One of the first games I bought on the PS1 and I played it a lot. This was a solid game back in the day.

You could glitch the '95 game to create unintentional Murray-isms, like the time Murray Walker congratulated David Coulthard on his win at Monza when I somehow crossed the line in 1st with Jean-Denis Deletraz.

F1 97 and Toca Touring Cars 2 were games which I enjoyed a lot back then. Still have them somewhere. And you can't beat good ol' Murray Walker commentating with the occasional Martin Brundle. Happy days. Gosh I'm getting old 😂

There was a cheat you could enter to make Murray go, as the magazine that published the code put it, “alarmingly mental”. The end result was just that the game would constantly trigger the commentary samples completely at random. I still get “That’s a Williams” drop into my head as a result of this game.

Murray was the voice for a generation, dont often wish I was born in a different decade but to have been alive in the early to mid 90s to experience Murray and Hunt, then whats his name and finally Brundle would've been awesome.
I think Martin Brundle is to us what Murray was to the older F1 fans, when I think of F1 I think of Brundle & James Allen/Coulthard loosing their minds of Mika over taking Micheal at Spa in 2000 on a drying track while approaching backmarkers or Vettel & Alonso slugging it out at Monza all while Brundle is commentating and letting his love for motorsport shine through the entire time.
F1 would be kinda boring without the commentators
