When I'm in civies I mostly walk around with my hands loosely together and about waist high especially in peoplely places, such as the market or going into/coming out of isles with no market basket to create space. On duty it is just a habit position for my hands. From that position I can reach for any of my equipment or shoot some sort of hand strike. But the hugest factor is situational awareness and reading people prior to their close proximity. Train, train, train, and be safe out there.
