Their label(SM Entertainment aka SMtown) was involved in a rather huge takeover fight a few months ago that Aespa's comeback was affected by. There was a push to incorporate eco-friendly messaging/lyrics in the original version of their album, which after the dust settled on the takeover battle, got changed and their comeback was pushed ahead until now. Changing the lyrics after the album was already completed probably made things a bit rushed. I hope you will react to their far better MVs for "Savage" and "Next Level" and also "Zoo," all of which I have mentioned previously.
I think SM tried to have a simpler approach with aespa this time (I feel the Korean public is seeking that lately with the simplicity of Newjeans, for example), and I'm talking both musically and conceptually, there's no kwangya, naevis, Cosmo, or aes on spicy, it's basically them having a mean girls moment, and musically they always brought that experimental side with instrumental changes on a roll all these times, and this one sticks to just that one good beat from the beginning to end, spicy made aespa feel fresh and not over complicated, it's a break.
Yeah that seems to be the case. Alos, with their concept in the 'real world' this time it was nice time for a change I guess :) ... This song is charting well in the K-charts (Think it was charting in top 5 yesterday)
Maybe it was too spicy for your heart. 🤪 I dunno, I guess I'm whooped, but I thought they worked the vocals in well with the beat. Especially Winter's. Every time she came in my heart skipped a beat. Plus the two or three rap parts were spot on in timing and impact (disregarding the lyrics, which were cute but not great as you mentioned). My only issue was the chorus. But a small complaint.
i respect ur opinion but the lyrics are fire, sometimes overproducing songtext is not always good either. its an easy song to vibe with. and i can't really judge the dance choreo yet until studio choom releases it tomorrow but from what i see in the mv the point choreo its def way better than girls. this is a hold-back-song from the usual kwangya cyberpunk concept since 1st chapter is over. it's showing the "real world" concept of them being teens enjoying their lives basically celebrating the victory over Black Mamba but still confronting a "strange phenomenon". it has all its reasons why its like that. random people think its just a high-teen summer song with no lore this time but look closer, the hints are brilliant. time stands still, nobody moving, everything is frozen but glitches everywhere. these are all hints of a new threat from kwangya that kicks off the new season. the thematic about spicy is forced because its the first time an aespa tt has no lore in the lyrics. also it was a last minuite decision that this comeback is a mini and not a full album like planned. in case you didint know what happend to them and sm... they needed to improvise with a plan b cuz of internal drama and the company's downfall. core members left the company along with their creations and copyrights. thats why tracks needed to be restructured, naevis debut was delayed, the actual title track for aespa for this cb was cancelled/scraped cuz of all the environment bullsht lsm was pushing with, aespa cb delayed for the 3rd time etc. this title track was karina's choice and they said that they are very nervous how this new concept is going to work. it wasnt easy to make quick a plan b comeback after all this drama and pressure. like some people really aint tking it into account ..
I just see it as a summer pop song with superficial lyrics, which can be found in music of every country tbh. Their company had owned the bubble gum pop genre in the past and dominated Asia with it. This pop sound is very big is Asia, look up Girls Generation "Gee", which is their older sister group before them and were labeled "The Nations Girl Group". Look at it this way, Avril Lavigne is an amazing vocalist that has deep songs like "I'm With You" but still released a song like "Girlfriend" & both are hits. This 3rd Album had them explore various genres/styles of music, I feel like everyone will have at least 1 song they like and 1 song they don't.
I've never commented before but I really love watching your videos. Your reactions are always so genuine, and you have never seemed fake in what you say, so I really have fun watching and seeing if your gonna like some of my favorite groups or not. There is a whole section of rap/youtube music called nerdcore and I’m really interested to see if you will like it or not. They basically rap about/in the perspective of fictional characters. One of my favorites is named "daddyphatsnaps" and I know that names a little weird lol but trust me he is amazing. I recommend his death rap if you have watched puss in boots the last wish- if not then I recommend his newest homelander rap from the show the boys. Again, love your reactions and I really just wanted to let you know that you’re honestly my favorite reaction channel on youtube!
SM has been crapped on for being too predictable with putting too many high notes at the end of the song, so the first time listening i did think it was missing something, but this is KWANGYA girls no more (at least for now), real world are more chill put still great vocals.
The video is actually littered with their lore, they are in a time loop which indicated the exact time that time froze during their party and the streets they are dancing is actually empty, like an aftermath of a chaos but these girls are unbothered by what's happening around them. The start of the video is already showing strange happening around the world and they entered the school dropping from the sky lol!
Since you commented on Giselle's lines in this I hope and wish you react to her debut solo introduction mv called RAP SYNK back in 2020 she wrote it herself when she debuted as Aespa and she wrote and rapped in Korean,English and Japanese.
Thank you for the video. I agree about the beat and lyrics (choreo looks better on the live stage for me). I think this song did not put any lore in the lyrics like their previous tracks but they put their lore in the MV instead. it's like they took a break after defeating Black Mamba (if slaying bmb is ss1 so spicy more like afterstory before going to their ss2)so they came back to the real world anyways strange phenomenon things happen in the real world too cuz they used massive of data from many cities in real world(ref to SMCU3) to fight with black mamba maybe "spicy girl did it again" mean they cause 'strange phenomenon' to the real world again. sry if this make yall confused eng isn't my first language 😅
After Lee Soo-man left SM, AESPA finally escaped from Kwangya! This comeback holds significant meaning as the start of Next Kwangya, and to add, Spicy is the ultimate summer song! The visuals of Karina and Winter are truly stunning!
Actually your partly wrong, this is the REAL WORLD a continuation of GIRLS mv after where they defeated BLACK MAMBA and in WELCOME TO MY WORLD we see NEAVIS has entered Earth where the girls are.
When it comes to vocals SM Ent. always has lit vocals. Also great beats. Not all companies operate the same. But there were some problems regarding SM so maybe it affected this comeback a bit. Idk. Stray Kids does their music more or less alone and Ateez or at least Hongjoon is very included in the process....when it comes to SM artists they as far as I know dont produce their stuff completely on their own. At least this time the choreo isn't as bad as Girls choreo. That thing is the crap. I couldn't even appreciate Girls as a song for a while because of how the choreo looked on stage.
I'm with you on this one, love the beat but hmm. Musically I adore SM Entertainments productions and their vocal arrangements, but lyrics.. Truly so far behind their priorities it's infuriating sometimes. Singles are usually the worst and then maybe there's some b-sides with fine lyrics. On some tracks I don't care but on some it's really distracting. :/
I enjoy your honest opinion regarding lyrics and choreography. It's great when reactors are not afraid to be real. However your comment about woman making men sad by singing about being too hot for them? That's highly sexist considering you probably don't object to men rapping about the same stuff. It came across as incel discourse and was very off-putting in an otherwise great reaction video. DO better.
Seldom do men rap about being “better” than women in any way, especially not in terms of attractiveness… I’m happy to be wrong but I don’t hear lyrics like that from men I’m afraid. @@TeddyGreyOSI haven’t come across lyrics like that either but I have hear plenty of song where men reduce women to simply their looks. This isn’t by far my favourite aespa song, and I agree that the song felt underwhelming, but I find it a fun track. Great to bop along to during team meetings.

Agree about the lyrics 😅 and about the beat, aespa (and SM artists in general) always have awesome beats 🔥
Figured this. Salt and Sweet would suit your taste better.
Aespa said the song was spicier but they wanted the younger fans to feel included.

I had the same feeling when she used "honestly" twice. They could have easily found another rhyming word.
aespa is the best. 🔥

I share your ideas on this one. I feel like there's several groups who are being under-utilized, by giving them lack-luster lyrics, choreography, etc.

I’ve never rated the choreographies for the SM girl groups. They always feel too soft and pretty, and they always look the same
