Hey Charles, i think the Villa game showed us some worrying points towards this season. First of all, Partey's physical presence has definitely dropped due to his age and constant injuries. His passing ability and goal was good, but if opponent keeps running through power and pace it will be really difficult for Partey to cover. Second, we need an winger signing. Martinelli just can't seem to find his feet again. He hasn't had the worst performance but it was nowhere what Arsenal surely wanted either. Many people keep saying we need to start Trossard but every time Trossard starts his presence in game dips significantly. It will not only be Villa who will be giving us a hard time in big games this season. We definitely need a game changer. We were also so short of attacking options on the bench yesterday.
What a signing Trossard has been. If Chelsea hadn’t gazumped us for Mudryk who knows where we’d have been? Would we have had the £ to buy Rice for example. I thought the game was a bit like the group stages of an international tournament - cagey, control but no tempo. Martinelli got in good positions, worked hard without the ball & I think he’ll come good with the final product. But time for Trossard to take the starting shirt for now.
Thanks Mr Watkins your love for Arsenal shone through. Raya was fantastic. Great super sub Trossard performance. I think that was a fabulous performance against our boogie team from last season.

Hi Charles, Firstly, I want to say I always appreciate your insights and the way you keep us all informed about Arsenal, even here in South Africa. I watched your latest review of the Arsenal vs Aston Villa match, and I felt compelled to share my thoughts, especially regarding Gabriel Martinelli’s performance. After rewatching the game with a focus on Martinelli's movements, I noticed how integral he was in supporting Jurriën Timber, particularly given Timber's limited time with the first team. Martinelli worked tirelessly to help maintain our defensive structure, especially against a strong attack from Aston Villa. His contributions were crucial in keeping players like Leon Bailey in check. I think this might have been part of Mikel Arteta’s strategy-using Martinelli’s energy and defensive work rate to wear down Villa’s defense, which then allowed Leandro Trossard to come in fresh and capitalize on a tired backline. While Trossard did an excellent job, I believe Martinelli’s efforts laid the groundwork for that success. Arteta has fostered a strong sense of unity in the team, and it's evident that each player understands the importance of their role, whether they’re in the spotlight or doing the gritty work behind the scenes. I sensed this after listening to David Raya's post match interview, when he humbly shared the credit with every player, and I want to believe that this sentiment is unanimous within the team, which will make Arsenal unstoppable. They already possess the skills and passion to reach the top, but the brotherly team spirit will be the key. I worry that ratings like the one you gave Martinelli might inadvertently fragment the unity Arteta has worked so hard to build, expecially when you are so articulate and compelling in your analyses. I always find myself agreeing with your comments, but not for Marinelli this time. The team’s strength lies in their collective effort, and I think it's crucial to recognize the less visible but equally important contributions. If you get a chance, please rewatch the match, and keep an eye on Marinelli, and how he kept coming to help beef up the Villa attacks. You might change your mind, I hope. Thanks again for all you do to keep us Arsenal fans engaged and informed! Appreciation from South Africa!
C'mon guys stop picking on Martinelli. He is extremely good on one on one situation, works extremely hard to defend and has pace to burn. Defenders would be sweating on those kind of players. He just needs a bpost of confidence (goals) and we will have a blue chip attacking forward.
He has not been the same since the foot injury, seems to have lost a little pace, the 2 things could be a coincidence but I agree about confidence some players need it more than others and I think he is one that defo does.
He was awful nearly cost us a game been that way all season can't pass can't score can't win fouls and can't run pass people anymore. Not to mention he injury prone. Were not Dortmund players are here to win not to learn that was 3 season ago
Early days, but that was a performance of potential PL champions. Hard fought, patient, gritty performance, when the lights were shining the brightest! Arteta mentioned us being short in attacking areas, so let’s hope we can get some reinforcements in that area. Bring us an attacker on top of this already fantastic defence, and we are READY.
The slow pace at times just to makes me crazy while watching. Playing too safe and slow. We were fortunate to get the 2-0 away win. Trossard the super sub! Raya and Saliba saving us again.
Fantastic performance from villa but Good win from Arsenal i hope we improve going forward, amazing save from raya n thank Leo for saving us he is worth everything we paid for himm🎉🎉
The Gunners somehow managed to prevent Villa from scoring & then had the quality to score 2 sublime goals in the second half. Sweet victory at a tough away ground.
Evening Charles, Raya was Man of the match for me. Those Ramsdale fans who wanted Ramsdale over Raya, honestly, do you still want Ramsdale? Those saves he pulled off. His positioning was bang on the money. Had Zinny played, we would have lost. Martineli must start on the bench. Poor today. Trossard must start. THAT Saliba tackle. Wowza. In other news, Jesus out for 2 months I've heard. WE NEED A REPLACEMENT. We must activate Nico Williams' release clause. Calafiori looks like a beast.
Ødegaard also missed an absolute identical sitter in his first season at Villa park as well when he was on loan. The man’s cursed at Villa Park! 4 games in a row 🤦🏼♂️
Hi Charles. Really nice to get revenge from last season. With jesus injured viera leaving and possibly nketiah and nelson we surely must bring in an attacking player
Doing my best to watch the game while at work... Incredible result but it seemed to me like we got away with one a bit because of the chances that villa missed. Raya and trossard were outstanding today and made the difference. Another clean sheet and a partey goal which will hopefully boost his confidence. On to Brighton next! COYG
While I cannot disagree with your 9 for Raya but what would it take for a player to get 10/10, Charles? Imho, his saves not only kept Villa out, it actually boosted the confidence of our team to go on and win the game. Granted, the saves were 'standard training procedure' but at that point it just felt like he got us that sucker punch goal which deflates any opposition. Finally, his decision making was spot on and he did not put a foot wrong last night. 😊 Thanks for the great content again as always! Leonard
Hi Charles , really liked what you said about Thomas Partey as you said Roger’s for Villa was really good but you also said TPs progressive passing was better than anyone’s, I think his been out a long time will take a bit of time to get match fit Premier League games are different than preseason games with Merino coming in they can all share the load Rice and Jorginho final some midfield depth
We were sayng last year that Martinelli was not shining because of lack of support on his side... Now there may be a confidence problem after nothing goes his way, but I'm afraid he has hit plateau. There's not much else to his game, other than some headless chicken runs that are always very sterile. It's harsh, I know, and we all love Gabi, but there doesn't seem to be any progress. I hope I'm wrong, but maybe those rumours about Nico Williams mean I'm not the only one thinking there's room for improvement on the left. And look, I know that goal contribution is not miles apart from Gabi, but it's the unpredictability and variety of gameplay he shows that IMHO make him an upgrade. On a separate note, Calafiori: what he showed in a few minutes was absolutely wow: the pass to Saliba running to the left, all his breaks, etc. Go back to watching his movements on the pitch, so so good
Hi Charles, no complaints this week, Raya's had 2 unbelievable saves in this start to the season and so happy for Thomas scoring, you could see how happy the other players were for him, he's had to take a lot of criticism lately.
So happy with this win. Childishly I’m so happy we won so that bit of haggis McGinn didn’t walk away from that with any satisfaction. took on the task of trying to humble the brick wall that is Saliba and lost, he is so dirty so im super happy we took 3 points
Hi Charles. First of all COYG! Incredible win for Arsenal against a very tough opponent in Villa. Watching Martinelli throughout this game makes me wonder if he can ever be our long term left winger going forward. While he is a very gifted player technically, he sometimes takes too long on the ball and dribbles with his head down. I don’t think that works in Arteta’s system. Also, Leo made an instant impact after subbing on and I just wonder your opinion on Martinelli’s future at Arsenal. Love watching your videos, I have been an Arsenal fan from the United States for my whole life along with my brother and my dad. COYG! I hope Arsenal can win next weekend against Brighton on my birthday (that would be the best present I could wish for - along with Arsenal becoming the Premier League champions for the first time in my whole life!).
Hey Charles, love the show. I think we need to start having a conversation about Martinelli being dropped from the starting lineup, he doesn’t make things happen the same way Trossard does. What that means for Martinelli long term? Who knows.
I was listening to the match via the Arsenal website so can only go by the commentary. I'd give Raya 10, he sounded world class today, keeping us in the game with 2 super saves. Trossard is a 10 for me because when nobody is getting the ball in the net he comes on and does it again with his first touch. I'd give White 8 for his progressive work, he could have got an assist if anyone had made the run to get on the end of White's cross into open space towards the penalty spot. Gabriel gave the ball away with his dithering, but made up for it with some great progressive passes later on. None of the players I had down for scoring today got the ball in the net, but hey ho, so glad we have other players that can! No need for a striker where you get nothing if they have an off day. Great that we have not let Villa become a bogey team, we stuck to our game and it paid off.
Hi Charles, every show fan here, one question, do you agree on the tactics of Gabi Martinelli tiring off the left wing and switching it for Leandro and full speed again....
Love this team. There's a bit of nastiness to them. Ben White kicking the ball back at McGinn speak volumes. Which, always thought the invincible lacked a bit of that. Probably one of the reasons why they never won back to back titles.
Spot on assessment of Tom Partey Charles, exactly what I thought. Shame he didn’t arrive at the club six years ago as there is a great player there but he’s so frustrating isn’t he and is now showing his age

Great video as always charles. we've heard the news from reliable sources saying arsenal want a forward that wont be scared of competition. And sterling is reportedly available. Should we be looking at sterling you think?
Havertz on a 5 is pretty harsh I feel. His movement and first touch play were really good. Also Matinelli was pretty good technique wise, there were plenty of times where a lesser player wouldn't have got into the dangerous positions he did. He has to improve on his decision making and tge quality of his passes. If Eddie also goes to Forest then I really doubt that we're not going to get another forward. The transfer team has been too good for the past 3 seasons to fumble this.
Has anyone else noticed how Trossard doesn’t smile ever? Even after the goal, he looked like he wanted to make a point to the fans and the team and didn’t mix or respond to team celebrations. His body language seems like he’s not a part of the team like everyone else. Does anyone else feel like that or is it me just overthinking?
No. He is sending Arteta a message. Like “why do you keep picking an underperforming Martinelli ahead of me?”. He was asked about starting in an after game press conference and he declined to comment. Surely he needs to be up in the pecking order compared to Martinelli.
Hey Charles I would be worried if we don't get a another attacker..Especially now Jesus is potentially injured again & as Gabi is not firing. The bench yesterday looked light in attack. It would be a concern if Leo got injured..
Great content as ever Charles! Just wondering, how highly do you rate Martinez? I think he's a good keeper but overrated when people talk about him being the best keeper in the world. Great at international level but at club level id rate him behind at least Alison, Edison and Raya in the premier league. Maybe it's because he's chucked a few goals in for Arsenal over past few years - and long may it continue! Interested to hear where you rate him compared to other keepers tho?
Hi Charles, I have a question from across the pond here in the US. Do you think we can get the best out of our left with both Rice and Martinelli out of form? If they don't find some by September, will Arteta be brave and ruthless enough to bench both at City, where the match will be decided by the smallest of margins? Huge win today, but am concerned for both and their apparent lack of confidence. Martinelli is coming off a down season and Rice had a long season where he took some harsh, and undeserved, criticism during the Euros.
Hi Charles, do you think Martinelli’s performances are concerning? I feel he hasn’t developed enough and maybe Arteta might upgrade on him similar to how Raya was brought in for Ramsdale. Maybe Merino coming in might benefit Martinelli in the same way Xhaka did, but at the moment our threat on his side is really lacking
That Raya save was brilliant! The moment which saved the game. Charles are you concerned with the continually poor form of martinelli? Sticks to ball too much ,does not cross it at right times and wastes counters. Surely trossard has to start at lw now!?!
Dear Mr. Watts, our hospitality was optimal. We gave em rollercoaster feelings till King Leonardo came in and commanded his army to Partey...a reflection of our feelings at the the Emirates last season. 2 down, 36 to go.
Trossard is our best finisher and our impact sub. Please let's keep it that way, he must always come from the bench not to start him. Martineli continue to disappoint and he is campaigning for Nico Williams from the look of things. Timber was descent but seem to have been forgetting that he was playing Bailey. We must avoid such lapses in concentration.
Raya didn't just block - he blocked by ensuring the bounce from this glove was t in front of goal - he pushed it away. And that's why is was a brilliant save imo
He Charles.. can Rice really play as a 8 ? Yesterday's game made me question that . Or will Mikel switch to a double pivot with Merino ... Also on Partey .. everybody says he was bad yesterday..... But I think he was okay . Forming a back three ... Rodgers just blocked him and his midfield passes all the time and used his strength.....but his ability to read the game st time was Soo great ..... The passes .his attacking play ..... Let's not down play Partey.... There was a moment when Calafiori started as a left back and ended up as Right midfielder..... He's Soo winning those duels ....Mikel must have been sooo happy . Raya is world class . Trossard will bench Martinelli And I think after this season we should move on from Martinelli is he doesn't take his chances ..... I don't expect Mikel to give him any more chances ...the coach has done his best now it's up to Gabi
Charles, I would respectfully disagree that Arsenal were "by far" second best in the first part of the second half (if I heard you right). Yes, Villa had some bright moments but I thought we were pretty solid overall (and the second big Watkins chance was the result of a weird deflection). I thought Timber was "very" good. He got really good reviews by the US NBC team (that I really respect). Separately, if we were to bring in another attacker, it would be nice if that player could be one that can be more direct - can attack on more of a straight line (assuming such a player like that is available exists). When I was watching West Ham v. AV last week, I liked some of what I was seeing from Kudos in this regard (though I know he would not be available). Hope Jesus injury is not serious, but this just further drives in for me that I'm glad we didn't go for Neto.
Raya has impressed me,that is the quality trossard, partey for the first time players well.timber is good and saliba but Gabriel he almost repeated a mistake he did last season against liverpool.arsenal defenders should stop keeping the ball ,they should be confident playing the ball to our winger's.otherwise I'm happy with todays results

Hi Charles, I know it's really early days in the season but do you think big Gabby has shown that he is no longer good enough for Arsenal? Saliba was so much better in defence. Andy from West Sussex.
Hi Charles , our priority should be a LW not a striker Havertz makes players around him better , martinelli cant but his impact off the bench is where is see his future lies at arsenal, thoughts?
Great bit of revenge at Villa. Nicely done, but Jesus injured already and he’s barely played? Even Partey managed to get two games into the season. Tomi couldn’t even make the opening. Think we have accept now those guys are never going to have any real impact on our campaigns anymore. We’re carrying them. I hope there’s real succession planning happening for Jesus. Wouldn’t have renewed Tomi either, even at only two years.
Instant impact by trossard!!! But did u see his body language while celebrating his goal? He didnt look that happy. What do u think charles? Seems like trossard doesnt like his role being an impact player from the bench 😅

Thanks for the great content again as always!
Raya, save is well up there. I use to play in goal and believe that's up there with David Seaman's save against Sheffield utd unbelievable Geff
Bit harsh on martinelli and Kai, they both put in a shift. Maybe should be 5 and 6
We were sayng last year that Martinelli was not shining because of lack of support on his side...
108 points to go...6 in the bag...COYG 💪‼
Benny Blanco again 😂what a lovely menace to footballing society 💯🔥👏🏿
Gabi is definitely searching for his best form right now. Long way off it at the moment.
Check out Trossard, he may not have celebrated his goal but he certainly celebrated Partey's goal!
Hey Charles, love the show. I think we need to start having a conversation about Martinelli being dropped from the starting lineup, he doesn’t make things happen the same way Trossard does. What that means for Martinelli long term? Who knows.
Huge result as you say Charles, but we have to thank Watkins for the 3pts. 6pts in the bag, but we need to up our game pretty quick.
9 was fine for Raya, Charles. Had he saved a pen or something as well then we're in 10 territory. Same with Trossard. Don't go soft on us ;)
Hi Charles, every show fan here, one question, do you agree on the tactics of Gabi Martinelli tiring off the left wing and switching it for Leandro and full speed again....
Charles STOP Being Afraid And Give 10/10 Player Ratings When Deserved. Keep Note Of The 10/10 Player Ratings and God Willing We Lift the PL Gives us a Video on the Big Player Performances That Got Us There This Season VAMOS
Talk about Calafori defence play when he came in
I am worried about Martinelli's form. The dip is serious
That was beautiful win, we just look a little short in the bench, hope we can do some business before the end of the month.
Saliba is the Man!!!....Raya is just incredibly consistent and Trossard doing Trossard things....love them all 🎉🎉🎉
Very satisfying win! Villa were a bit off today so we really needed to take full advantage
How could you Havertz a 5 and Gabriel a 7?!!
Considering Gabriel almost stupidly cost Arsenal the match
Has anyone else noticed how Trossard doesn’t smile ever? Even after the goal, he looked like he wanted to make a point to the fans and the team and didn’t mix or respond to team celebrations. His body language seems like he’s not a part of the team like everyone else. Does anyone else feel like that or is it me just overthinking?
I think that's just his thing. But also can't imagine that's he is too happy with constantly being overlooked for an under performing Martinelli.
I agree with you, seems he is passing a message to us
Overthinking for sure.
No. He is sending Arteta a message. Like “why do you keep picking an underperforming Martinelli ahead of me?”.
He was asked about starting in an after game press conference and he declined to comment.
Surely he needs to be up in the pecking order compared to Martinelli.
@@MrMorale96Reiss Nelson is even better than Martinelli as it stands!
A very satisfying win. We suffered for the win and kept a clean sheet!! King Cala would make the LB position a crazy fight.
Sometimes it is better to be lucky, than good...We were good, but very lucky too. Sometime it works for you.
Hey Charles
I would be worried if we don't get a another attacker..Especially now Jesus is potentially injured again & as Gabi is not firing.
I think Raya is going to really shine this year now the Ramsdale V Raya stuff is well and truly dead in the water.
Raya's got the "Golden Glove" already😁
Saliba is another version of Rio Ferdinand…calm n smooth…
Hi Charles, do you think Martinelli’s performances are concerning? I feel he hasn’t developed enough and maybe Arteta might upgrade on him similar to how Raya was brought in for Ramsdale.
Maybe Merino coming in might benefit Martinelli in the same way Xhaka did, but at the moment our threat on his side is really lacking
In view of Arsenal’s performance in the first part of the second half, do you feel the team can do with a number 9?
That Raya save was brilliant! The moment which saved the game. Charles are you concerned with the continually poor form of martinelli? Sticks to ball too much ,does not cross it at right times and wastes counters. Surely trossard has to start at lw now!?!
Very lucky win. Take it gladly, but just shows we need Gyokeres and Williams/Kudus to possibly challenge for the league
Seen free kicks given for that challenge on Gabi before
Raya didn't just block - he blocked by ensuring the bounce from this glove was t in front of goal - he pushed it away.
Trossard will bench Martinelli
And I think after this season we should move on from Martinelli is he doesn't take his chances ..... I don't expect Mikel to give him any more chances ...the coach has done his best now it's up to Gabi
Trossard....Super Impact Player ⚽️⚽️
10/10 Raya, 9 for Leo, arsenal is blessed to have saka wat a player
Big win, very pleased. 😌
Arsenal 2 Leicester 0
Lol great statement result today
Very proud of the lads
Timber awesome
Well done David raya xxx
Raya has impressed me,that is the quality trossard, partey for the first time players well.timber is good and saliba but Gabriel he almost repeated a mistake he did last season against liverpool.arsenal defenders should stop keeping the ball ,they should be confident playing the ball to our winger's.otherwise I'm happy with todays results
raya a stunning keeper i noticed ramsdale didnt celebrate parteys goal. raya a great keeper i think i saw a dan potts video once saying he is not a number 1 keeper
Good evening charls I think trasord should start the next game well done to all the players and the manager revenge from last season
Huge win
Charles is happy today
Martinelli has to score to restore his confidence. He is struggling still unfortunately
