I also own one of these beauties. Most folks have the opinion that "cassettes are a dead format", but most have never heard a real quality recording made on a deck like this....If you have one, hold onto it, get it repaired if needed. We will NEVER again see anything that is equal to these fine machines !

I have the CT-F1250 and also the CT-F950. Both suffer from the typical dead spot on the capstan drive motor.
They both work beautifully besides this little issue. I'll have to get around to servicing these one day.

Glorious machine! I have one and it's also nice that you used TDKs best version of D IMO from the early 90s and showed that even 'budget' Type I can sound excellent on this deck, chrome is not necessary all the time. PS Mine had few hours on it and was well maintained when I got it, the most I've ever spent on a cassette deck but picking my jaw off the floor when I first heard it was WORTH IT :)

Is the investment to the king 1250 from a CTF950 really worth it ?

In the owner's manual of ct-f1250, it says not to use 120min tapes because it will affect the unit adversely. Does anyone know what will happen, and can I use 100 min or 110 min tapes? Also should the motor make any noise? I just purchased one that is why I ask.

Hello, I recently acquired a CT-F1250 & it has the same blue Elna caps as yours. Do you know if these Elna's were used by Pioneer or upgraded by owners ? I see many stock CT-F1250's with the black caps.

@@AndyDoz CT-F1250 never came with blue Elna's, they were always black caps. Especially the vertical power board in front of the pwr supply - all black caps.

@@miss.wright3035 not so. This machine was stock when received. I have seen 2 others with blue Elna. None have seen previous repairs. One documented so.

The florescent light decks weren't around until the CT-F900 came out. That model may have been out as early as '79, then the CT-F950 replaced it and could play metal type IV tapes. Then the CT-F1250 I'm almost certain wasn't out until 1981 to be the grandaddy which replaced the CT-F1000 as the most high-end model.

      The Pioneer CT-F1000 was 1977 to 1979, the CT-F1250 was available 1979 to 1981,
      the CT-F900 was 1978 to 1979 and the CT-F950 was 1979 to 1981.
      The CT-F1000 does type 1 (Ferric) 2 (CrO2 or Crome) 3 (Ferro-Crome)
and does not do type 4 (Metal).
      The CT-F1250 does type 1 2 3 and 4 tape.
      The CT-F900 does type 1 2 and 3 tape
and was the first Pioneer tape deck to have a Floroscan display.
      The CT-F950 does type 1 2 3 and 4 tape,
and replaced the CT-F900 just one year after it's introduction because of it's
ability to record on type 4 tape to spite the fact that it is otherwise functionally identical.
