    Using the DeWalt Cordless Worm Drive Style Saw
    Power. Power. Power. This saw has TONS of power! I honestly still can’t believe that DeWalt has managed to accomplish the amount of power this saw produces in a battery platform. I have used this saw to frame 3 houses (along with several remodeling jobs) and I haven’t been able to even bog it down. I am sure I could if I tried, but why? It does everything I ask. The saw feels great in hand, has extremely impressive run times with the 9.0AH battery, and it doesn’t come tethered by a cord. From ripping multiple sheets of plywood to cutting long, compound angle jack rafters, these tasks proved no issue for the Dewalt DCS577X1 Worm Drive Style Saw. Impressed is an understatement.

    Finally a look back video. Perfect, now we're getting somewhere. These are the best reviews; how is a tool after usage, instead of brand new out of the box.

    As a production framer for 45 years currantly doing 57 townhomes I use the 6/2 Amp hr battery it reduces the weight and I swap it out at lunch. The majority of the days I wasn't getting through the day with the 9 anyway so for me it just made sense. I have yet to invest in the 12 Amp hr since it's more then a car payment!!!

      Exactly. I like lighter batteries even if have to swap them in every two hours. I take a little break every one or two hours anyways.

    I bought the regular one 2.5 years ago and it's still to this day the best tools I've ever bought. I'm a carpenter and the fact that I don't have to use an extension cord anymore makes my life so much easier. I also had to replace a couple of the older batteries under warranty, but other than that, the saw is amazing.

    I bought this saw after watching the original review of this saw. I totally agree with you guys. This saw is a beast. Between this saw and the flexvolt sidewinder, I don’t even carry a corded circular saw anymore. I use this saw almost every day and it has held up awesome. Power Is unbelievable. The only ding i have is it loves it batteries. I easily go through 4 9amp batteries a day. But its totally worth the trade off.

    DeWALT makes good contractor-grade cordless power tools. I'd be interested in watching a Look Back video on the Makita XSR01 rear handle circular saw that you guys did a review on three years back. That one is also a beast and the one I personally use.

  • @Hapharzardly
    @Hapharzardly 4 года назад +9

    I wish that was out when I bought the sidewinder version. My big complaint with it besides the blade being on the wrong side is the lack of a rafter hook. This saw solves that. I think I've used a corded saw since getting mine once and it was because someone else was using the Dewalt. Great saws. Two batteries gets me through the day as they charge quickly enough to not need more. I like the ability to use the flexvolt batteries on my other 20v tools like the impact driver, recip-saw and drill.

      Exact same here. Bought the blade right side model, then they came out with this model. Have both, use both. Havent gone back to a corded saw since. My only complaint is the size and location of the blade guard lever/handle. It gets in my line of sight constantly. Power to spare!

    DeWalt makes awesome circular saws. I had the dcs391 6-1/2" saw for 4 yrs and used it to cut every damn thing there is and it never let me down. It finally died recently due to a high fall from a roof. It actually still worked but the depth adjust was super bent. I'd give that thing an 11/10 rating though even though it was a brushed motor

    Been using it for a year. The only thing I hated on it was the DUST port. Cutting with it gets dust all over you, your belt, your shoes, etc.
    I ended up taping over it. Performs way better. It's a beast. Even in -30 weather up here in Canada.

    Thanks for the look backs! please, please do more, it in my opinion, "completes" the initial review. Speaking of the initial review, thanks to it, I made the decision to take a leap and purchase this exact saw. We don't use rear handle saws in NZ (yet) and so was aware that it was going to be quite the learning experience. I can now confidently say that the switch was worth it, and although it is much heavier than what I was used to at the time (blade right sidewinders) you learn to use it's weight to it's advantage. The benefits in power (seriously, what saw has more power?), line of site and being able to push through a cut using the whole length of your arm from behind all outweigh the negatives for me anyway. Thank you @Toolboxbuzz.

    If you're readinf your comment s Rob and co, then you know the viewers are fans of you going back and reporting on tools reviewed a year or more earlier.
    This also depends if the manufacturer let you keep the review unit or if you were impressed enough originally to purchase for yourself or if a colleague purchased.
    Thanks for the extra effort it is noticed, thumbs up.
    Would love a follow up of the Makita rear handle saw if you still have it or have access to it's hold up over the years. Makita is my platform in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    I bought one almost 2 years ago based in part on your video and in part on comments for that video. 2 weeks later, I put my corded saw on a shelf in the garage and it hasn't been touched since. One issue I do have with it though is when cutting horizontally (cutting out Sheathing/siding for a window/door just for example), with big hands it takes extra attention to not accidentally hit the spindle lock. Wish that was located further from the knuckles.

I have no desire to change to The 40 volt system, except for their new rear handle. Mine is only a year old and Unless it falls from a roof or gets stolen, I dont see me replacing it anytime soon.

      They are becoming more prominent in other markets than the US.
      Contractors often used rear handle saws on that side, but not so much Europe, brands weren't even releasing the rear handle model for official sale we had to get on ebay and have them imported.

      I think you just prefer your dewalt because of the cordless function. We'reball the same, once you cut the cord, you never come back

    I appreciate your channel, it’s helped me make the decisions on a few of my tool purchases.
    The problem I found with the flexvolt lineup is that the batteries do not hold up well in wet weather, whilst this isn’t too much of an issue for mitre saws etc, they’re easier to keep covered as they’re stationary. With a circular saw they need to stand up to the elements as you’re outside on a roof with them in all weather especially when a crane is on the job and you’re paying for it.

    ... down points from my experience are the same + the dust on my pockets like big time . I were an apron when I used the saw because the dust colector makes the saw very hard to handle even with my flexible hose , the Dewalt hose for the FlexVolt Vacuum is even harder.

  • @andrewacton5885
    @andrewacton5885 4 года назад

    I bet it's a great saw. I can compare it to a year with my dual battery makita 7 1/4". Its also heavy, with two 5.0s it last long enough for 2 other 5.0s to charge. I've burried masonry blades full depth for concrete cutting too. I pull apart the clamshell and remove the safety switch so it operates like a plug in. I also remove the spring from the blade guard. When new, the spring was so strong that youd push a 2x4 off the horses before the teeth got to it. I'd buy another if needed in a heartbeat

    • @andrewacton5885

    I don't think there's many in Europe using these saws. I haven't seen anyone use them in my country, as people use miter saws instead. I guess the idea behind efficiency in framing is different at least in some parts of the US compared to over here. Anyway; I'd love to try to work with a worm-drive. I'm sure if you're good skilled with the saw, you can compensate between having to walk back and forth to a cutting-station. I have a DCS575, but have more and more found that I'm not a fan of right-bladed saws - except for plunge cut. I'm aiming on getting a smaller left-bladed saw instead, to get a good line of sight. It seems like worm-drives provides straighter cuts as they're longer with a longer base

    • @N1rOx
      @N1rOx 4 года назад +1

      New Zealand Carpenter here and I find that as I get up to about the 8 x 2 timber and wider, I switch from miter saw to circular saw. It's much easier at that point to move myself to the timber, than the timber to the miter saw. We do not however use the rear handle style saw here, yet anyway.

    Regarding cordless tools , the prices are high for the person who is not using them on a constant use , i bought the 18 volt post type cordless circular saw at fire sale prices , and still looking for second hand , i would say that cordless tools found their spot with remodeling work

    • @Thirdplace4life
      @Thirdplace4life 4 года назад

      I totally agree. I'm an avid remodeler. I have many apartments and it just depends on when someone moves out. Last year I gutted an entire apartment because it was thrashed. People lived there 28 years. I'm working on another apartment now. People lived there 9 years. Its not to bad but theres still a ton of work to be done. Between those periods, my tools just sit. Battery technology is constantly changing, and batteries go bad, and their expensive. This is the reason i have corded tools, other than a drill and flashlight. Now I have lifetime tools instead of disposable ones.

Try to handle it beforehand because it’s shorter than skilsaw or other rear handles which some don’t like. I glued my safety switch down w epoxy bc it got annoying.
      I wish the dust port was on the other side bc it sprays you w saw dust but otherwise I love it

    But. I am having issue on the battery running time. Day one battery fully charged, it only lasted me 22 cuts of 2x10 treated lumber. Day two , battery fully charged, it only lasted me 10 of 45degree cuts of 2x12 fasica board.
