- It is no question that deer are one of the most abundant mammals in the world. So much so, that they can be found in each one of the 50 states. With several types of deer, the United States is home to tens of millions of these herbivores. For this video, we will take a look at the population of deer in each of the 50 states.

Suggestion; don’t repeat the deer population is. Fifty times. Just name state and the number of deer.
How about showing a chart, easier.
The deer population in my back yard is about 200,000.
😂
I’m a deer hunter in Arkansas. I see deer regularly around the year. I have deer 🦌 having their young in my yard in the spring. The size varies from small in the south to large in the north parts of the state. I harvest 2-4 deer 🦌 annually. There are one of the most gentle and interesting animals. Venison is an excellent source of protein and much more flavorful than beer especially now since much beer in stores comes from outside the USA. I try to care for and maintain a herd of at least a half dozen does around my home and harvest 1-2 a year. The rest I hunt at a deer camp. I provide forage, mineral supplements and improved habitats where they can thrive. I look forward to the time I spend in the woods with my 4 legged friends. My family enjoys watching them live and grow around our home. They continue to bring great memories to our lives.
@@glorybound7599 Same here, I live in the West Virginia Mountains and I have deer and other wildlife including black bears all around me. I have a small pond on my property and the Moma deer come every year next to it to give birth to their fawns. I had to give up hunting them but my wife and I enjoy watching the little ones grow up.
beer?
talks about deer, shows a photo of elk
Elk are deer
we must give BULWINKLE a pass
That's a Red Stag doe I believe.
Family Cervidae, (subfamily Capreolinae (elk, roe deer, et. al.) and subfamily Cervinae) includes all deer. Can’t they be in the family photo album??
Elk are a type of deer and thus included in the statement at 0:09 that says the video will include various types of deer.
347,000 were harvested in Michigan in 2023. Those are the ones that were reported.
🗣️When I started hunting deer 🦌 in Oklahoma in 1986, the deer population was about 500,000. You were allowed 3 bucks and 1-2 does depending on what region you hunted in. Then, the State decided to give us 2 bucks and 4 does. Then decided to ADD a Holiday Bonus Doe of ONE. Now it’s up to TWO does. So, a resident deer 🦌 hunter can now take 8 deer PLUS if they draw out for a special hunt …THAT DEER TO. Population is now 750,000 …and growing. I usually average 1-2 deer per year, having killed 67 deer over the last 35 years (this number includes hunting successfully in Texas and Minnesota). My 2023 season was THE BEST in 35 years, harvesting 5 deer here in Oklahoma (I kept 2 and gave the other 3 to needy families). Oklahoma deer hunters DONATED about 100,000 pounds of deer meat 🥩 to FEED THE HUNGRY PROGRAM here in the State in 2023. The deer you harvest, stays in your County. I look forward to another great season in 2024. SEMPER FI 🇺🇸🤠
Great that the extra meat goes to charity. I can't imagine what would happen if a deer season was suspended for just one year. The state would be overcome with deer
The deer population in the US, is about the same as the amount of people in
each of Canada, and Australia. That's a lot of DEER. Well done USA.
Wait until the SHTF. The numbers will drastically decline.
What is SHTF?
@@dustinwalter3034 Sh!t hits the fan.
Wild hogs too
@dustinwalter3034 there's a certain demographic that fantasizes about scenarios where some bad thing happens and it means they have to live off the land. 99% of these people would crumple within a few days.
I see multiple deer daily, since my area of WV is overrun with them. Your population numbers would have more impact if it was translated to a density statistic, such as deer per square mile.
Picky picky picky
The auto generated voice is annoying, monotone and repetitive. I only made it 3 states in. No species separation, no density, no geography, no cited resources for your estimates. Geez
I turned off volume and did 2x speed
When I was a boy back in the early sixties we rarely saw a whitetail deer in southeren WV. Today they are everywhere. Hunting is a big sport here so we love having plenty of deer. The ownly down side is our expensive auto insurance!
Would be interesting if you could break down this data per deer species, and also add a graph showing historical fluctations in populations, per species for each state.
Live in SC. I live in a rural area on 14 acres. Used to see a lot more deer before those pesty coyotes came around. Now it's a rare sight.
I see whitetail deer in my 1.6 acre SC yard almost daily. We have to be very cautious driving especially at night. Hardly a night goes by that there’s not at least one accident involving deer on our island, third largest on the eastern seaboard.
I’m going to say we are still over 1M in SC. You’ll see them all hours of the day and night even in towns. Several years ago traffic had to stop at Harden and Gervais Streets in Columbia because of a doe in the middle of the intersection.
Hunters will never complain about "Too many deer" because they want to be able to walk ten feet from their truck to get a kill. They will tell you the 1,500 Grizzlies are too many even though they are endangered. They will tell you there are too many Black bears and don't even mention a handful of wolves in Yellowstone Park because they see all predators as competition but they will never admit that there are too many deer.
Im in Texas and its not unusual in the suburbs to see deer daily. Its also why I took up archery, so I would have easy access to some of those deer without having a deer lease and buying corn by the pallet.
I live in southern Georgia and I see deer every day.
I’m in N. E. Florida and we see Deer every three days!
There sure are a lot of elk in this deer video. Plus, almost no mention of the promised deer species variations.
Idea: State bird of every state
I live in north central Arkansas and have some acreage and have lots of beautiful whitetail on it i feed them year-round.😊
A good piece of knowledge to go with this would be to list states with cheap hunting licenses and deer tags for non residents (and number of tags per person if more than one), so we know which direction to go to fill more tags that our own states allow, cause some states only allow each hunter one deer per year, but we can fill a big freezer if we go to a state with lots of public land and cheap licenses/tags…..
I live in the north GA mountains and I see them every day.
Good video. I would say that while Texas is number one for overall population, Michigan is number one is density (deer per square mile, etc.).
These numbers are going to plummet. CWD is no joke.
A small family of deer live in the woods around my house. About 5 or 6 animals. With 2 to 3 small ones every year. But the total amount does not increase. I think the males leave. As there are no racks on any of the deer, ever.
In New Jersey I all the time have to slam the brakes for these deer.
I see deer everyday in my back yard, & front yard as well; Mostly does, & every year the 2 oldest does give birth to at least 2 fawns each. I don't see bucks till early fall, & the early winter between 5 to 7 bucks will hang together, & pass through my property as well; I live in Virginia also sometimes they will lay down in my back yard for about a 1 hour or more.
As someone who lives in Michigan I'm not surprised by our deer population since there are usually 15 to 20 of them just around my small neighborhood alone
I think the mdnr is full of shit on their population estimate… don’t believe it is near that high!!🤷♂️
You do know an elk from a deer...right?
My Lord. I live in the mountains of Virginia and we are OVERRUN with deer. I have noticed in the last few years more doe’s are having twins. Day and night our yard is full of them. They seem not to be aggressive or scared either.
Planet of the deers
The problem with these numbers is that a number of deer are being counted two to three times as they roam across state multiple boarders.
Deer are beautiful creatures
The populations are higher in the Eastern half of the country (except for Texas). Because there’s more rain there (which means more vegetation), and fewer predators as well.
TLDR: Top states are:
Texas -5.5 million
Michigan -2.0 million
Mississippi -1.75 million
Wisconsin-1.6 million
Pennsylvania- 1.5 million
Missouri-1.4 million
The animals you feature I’m your photos are Elk not Deer. Seems like a simple thing to get right.
Elk are a type of deer.
@@jaredklein8863 how true. However, I assume he was giving statistics on deer not elk. If his stats included elk, it would be nice to get a breakdown by species.
@@JackSmith-jj3bi He did mention he was including all types of deer. Who knows if he actually knows what that means.
Wait so he included elk but excluded moose
Those numbers for the northwest states seem pretty far off if elk numbers are being included too
With Google it's amazing people will speak and look dumb. What do you think elk are. There elk lenard.
You're not telling me about the reintroduction of wolves in some of these states? That's why the populations have went down so much
Wyoming is perfect prof of that
Very interesting data. But the using the repetitive phrase “they deer population with the state of…” gets to be irritating after a while. Change it up and make it more conversational to hold peoples attention more.
It’s an AI. No creativity
Even in Hawaii? They had to be introduced. Longer hunting season would seem a rational counter. Since there are no natural predators.
I do not believe that Wyoming has only 11, 000 mule deer and there are over 7 times more whitetail deer than Muleys. Where did you get these figures?
The people giving Wyoming numbers are located on the Eastern side of Wyoming. University of Wyoming did give a report after the winter of 2022 where there were huge losses of Mule deer in the western ranges. That being said, there was a lot left out. Yesterday I saw five different mule deer. And ZERO White tails. Remember in Wyoming many animals(Cows, Antelope, Ground Squirrels, Prairie dogs, etc) greatly out number human population of Wyoming.
See deer 11 months of the year, come deer season their gone!
They're*
Interesting that we are talking about deer population, yet we have a picture of elk!
Thanks.
Virginia. Everyday spring through fall.
I have deer in my yard everyday, my does produce twins and triplets usually at birth. I'm from Central eastern Mississippi
Great video!
The population in my area is heavy with a couple missing due to getting in the way
I just ran off two small does from yard trying to eat out of my planter here in central Texas 😂
Yes we have tons of deer, especially East Texas
In this video he talks about how many deers are in each state, and when he comes to Hawaii he says that there are roughly 25,000 or more, and I am from Honolulu Hawaii and I have never heard of deers in Hawaii, maybe the Big Island or Hawaii, but never heard of anything like this, but Hawaii is the biggest and the youngest of all the Hawaiian islands and I don't think that I would eat deer meat, and I think it's called VENISON but I think it's very tough meat, meaning you have to tenderize it, and braise it for a long time in order to be tender enough to eat,and I bet it tastes gamey. But very interesting video.
I live in rural South Carolina, and I see deer at least three days each week.
I see them in herds - in a state that I will not mention.
I live in SC, also, and don't see as many as I used to. Used to see 3 or 4 together. Now it's mostly one.
Talk about Deer, then shows Elk.
Adding the square miles (area) of each state in the graphics would be helpful in creating a clearer picture, but the narrative added facts (ie weather/disease etc.) were helpful.
Did the deer turn in their census forms?
I live in Maryland. I see deer often because we have a lot of forest and we are more rural than other parts of the state.
Vermont..hands down is the hardest state to harvest a whitetail 😂
Yep that is what happened during the great depression
Because in Idaho people love hunt deer sir. I want to go on a deer but I might be going archery elk hunting with a friend this year. By the way Idaho is a pretty cool State we are known for our mule deer. 🦌
I love Idaho . I just visited my nephew in Boise
I live in Western Washington and I see deer walking through the city all the time, at least a few every week
@@AustinSimard Sadly, due in part to the last 10 plus years of huge multi thousands of square miles wildfires Eastside Washington have devastated the deer, elk populations. There are pockets that still hold animals. But, they are usually close to civilization. Up on Chinook Pass in an area our family has hunted the last 80 plus years, it looks like a bombed out area..Total devastation.
my cousins lives in texas, they never spoke to me abt a single deer??
Live in Texas, we see deer every day.
Maybe they don't hunt😂
Do they live in a large city?
Maybe they’re worried about the wild boar…
The deer are doing very well and getting bigger every day.
I'm from Philadelphia Pennsylvania.....lot's of deer, collison with cars is a problem....warehouse and housing expansion pushes them into occupied areas constantly
So all these deer came down to the census bureau and registered?
Short and to the point. Thankyou. I live in Ohio. Surprised by some of the numbers in other states.
North Carolina here. They are everywhere here. You see them at all times of the day, even in the cities. We have natural predators but not enough to keep them in check. Not enough hunters to limit their population and keep them from hitting cars, lots of motorcyclist getting killed by them. I hate to see deer killed by cars, so wasteful.
I feel bad for the Nevada situation, the droughts are killing them off. I hope there is help for those deer.
But are they registered to vote?
Did you count elk and antelope as deer? Did you include cow and sheep too? It sure seem like you did.
Factually, they have become a pest to farmers and even a problem in housing destroying gardens/more.
Wisconsin has the world's fouth largest Army during Rifle season 🦌gitcher buck yet?
In N.J. cars kill more dear than any wolves or mountain lions could ever cull . Lack of hunters and inability to cull the heads in the suburbs are the reason for the population .
Wisconsin deer population is s down to under 700,000
I'm pretty sure that deer are almost always born 2 at a time.
What kind of deer? All states out west and some in the east have several species of deer. Whitetail, blacktail, mule deer, elk, moose ect... They need to break that number down.
I see deer in my yard almost every day.
I grew up in Michigan, you see deer all the time and they cause many car accidents, my mom has hit two of them luckily she wasn’t hurt
If you are going to have a subject on deer show deer not elk.
not one mention of wasting disease. No mention of the depression. This is a very misleading population report.
This talks about deer but shows pictures of elk, are elk considered deer?
What has all the fires done to the deer population??
These numbers seem very exaggerated.
I see deer sometimes where live in wyoming it looking not well
kansas every day
The deer population in the state of New York is one fuckmillion
Why do you show elk instead of deer?
I live in Arkansas. Our state limit is 6 tags. But if u do the urban bow hunting. U get unlimited either sex tags. Because the population around some of the lakes are out of hand. Plus, the urban hunting. Dont count against your state limit of 6.
Interesting
Montana 200,000+ try 2 to 4 million
Just show a chart! No need to hear that voice.
What about new York State
Texas deer biggest killer by far is automobile deaths. Deer are often nuisance animals in suburban areas. There're vastly more deer in the eastern sections of Texas.
Oh dear
They are just big rabbits.
So there’s twice as many deer in Arkansas than Colorado? Don’t think so.
Maybe - southern states don't have harsh winters - who knows what the reasons could be.
Perhaps you can take some comfort in the knowledge that Colorado has 3-5 times as many black bears as does Arkansas. Lol
Deer hitting 😢my little veloster on the freeway 😮
Tore the 💩
I have to call bullsh*t. No way in hades arkansas has more deer than Alaska. Or Alabama. Combined. I stopped watching after the A list.
☮️
But I thought wolves were eating all the deer?
Why was the deer population LOW in the 1900's and VERY HIGH now??? The 2 major REASONS: The disappearance of the buffalo (which competed for the food supply)...and the near extinction of the wolf (its main predator). Due to man's interference...the deer population has begun to get out of control!!!
People probably hunted them for food more back in the early 1900s, too.
There are no buffalos in North America. There are herds of American bison, not buffaloes.
But you show elk! Yep liberals harris biden
BS video.
Not one of those animals is native to north america , dum dum
That 🦌 meat is good as hell im from Charleston South I know
