  • It is no question that deer are one of the most abundant mammals in the world. So much so, that they can be found in each one of the 50 states. With several types of deer, the United States is home to tens of millions of these herbivores. For this video, we will take a look at the population of deer in each of the 50 states.

I’m a deer hunter in Arkansas. I see deer regularly around the year. I have deer 🦌 having their young in my yard in the spring. The size varies from small in the south to large in the north parts of the state. I harvest 2-4 deer 🦌 annually. There are one of the most gentle and interesting animals. Venison is an excellent source of protein and much more flavorful than beer especially now since much beer in stores comes from outside the USA. I try to care for and maintain a herd of at least a half dozen does around my home and harvest 1-2 a year. The rest I hunt at a deer camp. I provide forage, mineral supplements and improved habitats where they can thrive. I look forward to the time I spend in the woods with my 4 legged friends. My family enjoys watching them live and grow around our home. They continue to bring great memories to our lives.

I have a small pond on my property and the Moma deer come every year next to it to give birth to their fawns. I had to give up hunting them but my wife and I enjoy watching the little ones grow up.

🗣️When I started hunting deer 🦌 in Oklahoma in 1986, the deer population was about 500,000. You were allowed 3 bucks and 1-2 does depending on what region you hunted in. Then, the State decided to give us 2 bucks and 4 does. Then decided to ADD a Holiday Bonus Doe of ONE. Now it’s up to TWO does. So, a resident deer 🦌 hunter can now take 8 deer PLUS if they draw out for a special hunt …THAT DEER TO. Population is now 750,000 …and growing. I usually average 1-2 deer per year, having killed 67 deer over the last 35 years (this number includes hunting successfully in Texas and Minnesota). My 2023 season was THE BEST in 35 years, harvesting 5 deer here in Oklahoma (I kept 2 and gave the other 3 to needy families). Oklahoma deer hunters DONATED about 100,000 pounds of deer meat 🥩 to FEED THE HUNGRY PROGRAM here in the State in 2023. The deer you harvest, stays in your County. I look forward to another great season in 2024. SEMPER FI 🇺🇸🤠

Hunters will never complain about "Too many deer" because they want to be able to walk ten feet from their truck to get a kill. They will tell you the 1,500 Grizzlies are too many even though they are endangered. They will tell you there are too many Black bears and don't even mention a handful of wolves in Yellowstone Park because they see all predators as competition but they will never admit that there are too many deer.

A good piece of knowledge to go with this would be to list states with cheap hunting licenses and deer tags for non residents (and number of tags per person if more than one), so we know which direction to go to fill more tags that our own states allow, cause some states only allow each hunter one deer per year, but we can fill a big freezer if we go to a state with lots of public land and cheap licenses/tags…..

Texas deer biggest killer by far is automobile deaths. Deer are often nuisance animals in suburban areas. There're vastly more deer in the eastern sections of Texas.

So there’s twice as many deer in Arkansas than Colorado? Don’t think so.

Maybe - southern states don't have harsh winters - who knows what the reasons could be.

Perhaps you can take some comfort in the knowledge that Colorado has 3-5 times as many black bears as does Arkansas. Lol

Why was the deer population LOW in the 1900's and VERY HIGH now??? The 2 major REASONS: The disappearance of the buffalo (which competed for the food supply)...and the near extinction of the wolf (its main predator). Due to man's interference...the deer population has begun to get out of control!!!

People probably hunted them for food more back in the early 1900s, too.

There are no buffalos in North America. There are herds of American bison, not buffaloes.
