When I was a teenager I caught their Sight & Sound in concert on the TV.
I also saw Three Friends on CTTE 2015.

GG for breakfast?! Absolutely. If Peel The Paint doesn't wake me up, nothing will. For GG, this is relatively simple.

The guitar solo reminds me so much of me playing with a delay.... can do that for hours... LOL. Great song from what might be my fav GG album....

GG... One hell of a band. So so different. Great album too. Ray Shulman , incredible talent , sadly missed. Would love to see Jana's take on 'Cogs in Cogs'. Cheers Nathan. 😍

Cogs in Cogs would be great! Awesome suggestion!

I, for one, hope your channel never becomes a one-horse pony! 😂
I would imagine that Gentle Giant is one of the least "accessible" prog rock bands (at least amongst the popular ones), so it was a pleasant surprise that Jana enjoyed it!

A friend of mine saw Gentle Giant live twice, and he said they were very impressive both times.
There are great live videos of them from 1974 (La, and German TV, The Power and the Glory tour) and 1978 (UK, The Missing Piece tour) that are excellent.

I wish I could have seen them live! I’ve seen several live videos and they are always amazing!

From chamber music to Black Sabbath hardness in one song. The true definition of progressive music.

I saw them once live and surely it was the best concert I ever witnessed - besides Joe Jackson, btw. Well, I´m a big GG fan, what else shall I say? I can´t remember if they did this one, but they played it live definitely, so to hear on their offical live album.
I would´ve preferred "Schooldays" from this album, but what do I know. I´m aware that "Peel the paint" is one of the favorites of GG fans because of its hard-rocking second part. To me the first part is the more interesting one, though. When I, as your typical rock enthusiastic, first heard it - it sounded so strange, almost a little bit creepy with the whispering voice and the tick-tock of the violin - yes, even the timeless artist´s time runs out.
Did you notice that GG´s songs often bring about an almost cineastic quality within their music? Here is the artist - in the beginning seemingly living in his self-created beauty and own whacky world with the strings and stuff, apart from all the others. And then in the second part waking up in the exact same harsh unforgiving world as these others - expressed in edgy, raw sounds. They were masters in converting lyrical themes into music.
And for the significance of various instruments : I`ve never heard a bass guitar as equal an harmonic and melodic instrument - just like guitar and keyboards (and so on) - as Ray Shulman´s bass.

I believe Schooldays is in our list also- I love that one! I agree with you about their ability to convert lyrical themes into music, one of my favorite aspects of the band!

Yeah, good old Derek rarely sang anything at less than a full bellow. But Kerry (and Phil) were so much softer and sweeter that it was usually balanced out. Does Jana know that there were three brothers in the band at this stage?
