Thanks for sharing! Never heard of Gesso. I've shot guitars and motorcycles, and found that Binz Primer/Sealer, found at Lowes and Home Depot, worked great as a foundation. It's shellac based, and everything seems to stick well to it, plus it comes in an aerosol can. Duplicolor Adhesion Promotr also works well, and dries clear.
Thanks for the video brother! Just gave about 35 cranks and poppers a bath in warm water and dawn. About to start shooting em' with my Iwata and my Badger. Cheers dude!
Chris, what a delight to find someone doing similar fly tying lure building, painting etc. In MN, lots of warm water fishing. Gesso is a great tip. Researched it some...see that have sandable gesso. Looks great for cork bass bugs. Have you used sandable gesso? Also have you use gesso as a primer sealer for vinyl painted jigs?
I have not tried the sandable, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I use regular on lead jigs that I am going to paint, so it should work under vinyl.
That is the million dollar question on the bait painting group sites. A lot of painters use Alumilite products. I am a fan of Component Systems Seal Coat. It is a water based polyurethane product that doesn't smell or need a thinner cleanup.
What lure bodies were you using in the demonstration video and where can they be purchased? I am more interested in the diving baits vs the top water poppers. Thanks and I enjoyed the video!
There is a large selection on ebay that are direct from the manufacturers in China. Great baits, low prices, and they arrive in about a week with free shipping.
Hello there, will this acrylic base coat work with a water based paint on top? Just want to make sure because I use all water based paints for my lures
Thanks so much for your help and kindness. The mini-gun practically is a "fead bottom airbrush" that can spry more dense paint than traditional airbrush, am I right? Thanks
@@lannabulls Yes. It has a bigger capacity and larger nozzle that most air brushes have so it can spray more dense paints, and also paints with additives like glitter or mica powder.
Thanks so much Chris!Unfortunately I can't buy it, I'm living in Thailand, that website doesn't ship here, only USA and a few other countries. I look after this mini-gun in eBay, Amazon, they ship here however I can't find it, thanks anyway, you're help is really appreciated!
Thanks for the info on the dawn dish soap , I use it and alcohol to wipe baits down and made a difference
Very nice, I just learned a lot. Wondering how I was going to paint my lead jigs.
Glad I could help!
Some really good information, hints and tips. Thank you👍😷👍🏴
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. I’ve recently had some problems with my baits chipping and I’m going to give this a try.
Chris will gesso good to use with createx paints as well

Great video nice when people share their process. FIY your white acrylic paint is pronounced Jesso
Do you put any type of clear coat over them after color paint?

It will, I use waterbased acrylics over all different kinds of primers, they'll adhere just fine. Happy painting, tight lines! 🤘🏼
Anything noted as acrylic is water based. Yes, they will work perfectly together
Do you have any idea what the thread size is on the HF hose?
I don't understand the question?
@@chrismihulka-nwfishingstuf3852 Threads at airbrush inlet.
Luckily I had an adapter on had and it's the same as a badger. You can use a badger quick connect.
friend that brand is that white gesso that you use and where you can buy online.
Thanks for sharing, could you please provide a link to the mini gun? Did you ever use gesso on resin, epoxy-poliuretanic lures? Thanks

Did u order those from jannsnetcraft?
No, I go right to the source and get them from China.
Do you clean your lead jigs before you prime with the gesso ?
Give them a bath in warm water and Dawn liquid dish washing soap to get and oils off before coating with Gesso.
What brand of Gesso are you using?
Liquitex brand
Acetone will really clean them too! :-)
Acetone can also weaken the plastic joints and make the plastic gummy if left on for too long. Not recommended.
Добрый день. В какую цену у вас заготовки.
You spend as much time prepping as I do painting. Scuff it, tape it and wipe it down with alcohol and a microfiber cloth.
Alcohol isn't a de greaser. It evaporates fast, and it might work? who knows? Go give it a try.
