    I agree with you Cole (at min 18:08). How could one be bored on a farm? A few of my friends used to say they were bored back when I was a teenager ...... I told them to come over, I had lots to keep us busy with caring for my animals and land. Those comments of "I'm bored", led me to believe that predominantly, boring people get bored!

  • @hydro2wheel

    I really enjoyed the closing video location. It reminded me of back when I was a teenager I would climb up to the top of the tallest silo on the farm and watch the sunset. Sometimes I just enjoyed the view. Sometimes I imagined that I was a bird looking down on the world. Sometimes I would pray because I felt that I was a little bit closer to God.

    Here in Australia we put a 6 inch by inch or so high mound of sand around the edge of the concrete slab and then flood it with water for a few days to a week to stop dry to fast and stop the slab micro cracking.
    Be very keen to hear and see, more of your decision making process, the reasons you came to the outcome and what variables are involved.
    Cheers Matt

    • @aussiefarmer6012
      @aussiefarmer6012 3 года назад +2

      Matt I just wrote a comment and then scrolled down and read yours. Wet cured concrete for 2 weeks like you suggested will be about twice as strong as not, and that is one benefit. The other benefit is to stop it dry out so fast in the hot weather which will result in the top surface having a lot of fine cracking as well as being more prone to chipping. Even running a sprinkler on it would have been better than nothing.

    The country isn't boring; as I kid, I spent summers at my grandparents' home out in the country - certainly not on a large farm but I had a friend whose dad owned a small dairy farm of 40 acres and many is the time we got into cow pie fights, fished for cray fish (yucky!) in the stream, and spent hours playing around in the barn, including swinging on the mandatory rope. Our imaginations provided all the tools and equipment we needed to play, we would spend our days outdoors. Such a far cry from what it is like today (even before the pandemic sent us inside in the cities) for kids.

When you were considering building new bins did you ever think there would be a possibility of going down into the Earth instead of building them up high. Personally I would have thought that would have been a better idea Dan going with the normal. Considering a storm could come true and you would be back to square one. Now obviously I hope a storm does not happened.

    JMHO, but I would LOVE to see more of the day-to-day operations of the farm. I've been a big-city-girl my entire life (almost 58 years), with the exception of the times when I was growing up that I spent vacations with my Pa-Paw and Ma-Maw in Arkansas on their small farm. Seeing how a large farm operates is fascinating to me, and I never miss your videos. Please give us more farm content -- and also your house renovations! I have to say that I really love the renovation episodes! Much love to you and your family from north Texas. Oh and #TeamMommaCornstar all the way!!!

      100% agree ... 30% of the concretes strength will come from correct curing
      Slab reinforcing is not supposed to be on the ground!!! The engineer will specify where it is supposed to be ... usually 40mm top cover!! Edge of slab would be better if bullnosed trowel used - reduces edge chipping

I knew everybody that lived in a 10 mile radius of me growing up but I only know 1 neighbor in my apartment building here. Nobody talks to each other in the city.

    I am watching your channel not because it is topical fluff with overdone drama, but because I get to know what a farmer and his family in the middle America does to survive and thrive. Plus I'm middle aged, so the typical RUclipsr shenanigans drives me batty. 🤦 You've always given us a mix of what you're up to and I'm always happy to hear about whatever is in front of you, whether that means a quieter episode or not. You don't need crazy click-bait titles or to be in constant overdrive - those subscribers who demand that are vaporware anyway as far as consistency of interactions. I appreciate the genuineness of your family and what you put in front of us. Keep doing that and I'll be watching, liking, and commenting as a long-term subscriber.😊 Keep up the good work, Cornstar family!

    Ha cole, we have a bobcat skid loader as well, we had a problem with it trying to turn on it's own as well while sitting, it was like the one side wouldn't find the neutral spot, we found out that if you lift up the cab and look at the steering portion you can adjust it, and that's what we did, it fixed it right away, ares are hand and foot controls dont know if the is a difference if it's just hand controls or not.
