    As a mechanical engineer, I can say that this is a very useful video whenever I need to explain the concept to someone new. Great job!

    Cool video as ever answering the questions we never knew we needed the answer to, but now realise we definitely do. Lovely visuals and explanation. Would this be how probes are launched?

    • @ReflectiveLayerFilm
      @ReflectiveLayerFilm  3 года назад +2

      Thanks. Yes This mechanism is used to separate the probe from the the upper stage rocket once that rocket is on the proper trajectory in space.
      I mostly used Inkscape to make this video. It's the latest software I'm learning to help me make videos. Do you use Inkscape in your flow?

      There is one place I don't quite understand. Will the retaining ring doesn't fall off the hinged leaf assembly after being unlocked by the motor?
      How do you do that

    • @ReflectiveLayerFilm
      @ReflectiveLayerFilm  3 года назад

      No, the retaining compression ring doesn't move far enough to do that so it's still supported by the leaves. At 1:27 you can see that the left image shows that the ring is still supported by the leaves.

    I’ve heard starship uses a new form of release system. It would be interesting to see a similar video on that system as well.

    This video is from my other channel Operational Facts. It's a new Channel. Short clips of how things work. Not just space related stuff but anything that can be explained with a good animation. No intro, no outro, just the facts of the matter. Most videos there are under two minutes. The new channel contains a lot of clips from this channel stripped down to just the point. This makes it a good channel for quick reference about stuff and that's the point.
    You can visit that channel at
    ruclips.net/channel/UC6uJbsLOTm8bls7jTpYvyrg
    Next video will be the regular longer format. It will be an episode of Celestial Sphere.
    Thanks for supporting my work.
