The strangest thing about this story is that the city water in some Louisiana parishes actually have too much chlorine added to treat the water, which only gives more realism to the story, and with hurricanes that occur and people that go missing during them, and disease that can spread by tainted flood waters, something similar is actually possible.

All the series on the channel are interconnected horror stories that take place in Cates Crossing, Louisiana. Super cool to notice the nods to various videos in the Tangi Virus and so happy you’re covering this wonderful analog horror!
19:30 I believe that boiling that water might speed up the growth of the parasites or something else because even though later they lift the advisory this clip seems like part of it was cut out with how fast it changed.
Im really scared to watch these things alone, but when markus posts analog horror i watch it. Somehow it makes it way less scarier and way more entertaining. Thank you markus!!
Dude I usually only watch horror in the morning bc I get scared otherwise, but now it’s almost 11pm and I’m debating watching the rest and getting paranoid or just going to bed- 😅
Agreed, they deserve many more subs. I've already seen The Tangi Virus, The Oracle Project, One of Us, and Children Under the House so far. There's still so many series in that channel I've yet to check out.
As a Louisianan you did pretty good with the pronunciation of Tangipahoa Parish, and it is crazy to hear landmarks I know personally in relation to each other. And yeah Our state is pretty naturally scary
When the first scientist stated "Boil the water," as her final words, I wondered if they were *her* final words, or the parasites' in her final words. Considering the later message... I think we have a better guess as to which is the case. :)
Considering the fact the Tangi Virus parasites grow a TUMOR in your spine which acts as a ALTERNATE BRAIN, yeah: I dunno what to trust anymore. The parasite just clouds your judgement.
I think it was her thought, because we're shown the virus can mutate, so I think she said that, people started boiling the water and the parasite mutated to become immune to boiling
Such a creative project, although I can't get over the fact that biology officially left the chat the moment "virus hatched a worm" came up. Much of the footage actually looks like real parasitic worms that can infect humans. Diseases like schistosomiasis are very real, which makes this a lot more terrifying in my opinion.
Yea, looks more like a parasite to me than a virus but whatever lol; you also cannot "cure" a virus so her holding it off with meds and cancer treatment is..well..not realistic if it's a virus lol! I think the creator was just a tad confused on what a virus is..Boiling is also used for killing bacteria, I'm not sure about viruses?
I remember someone else had a thought about that; the "worms" aren't a separate spontaneously generated organism, but are possibly created from the victim's own infected tissues to help the Tangi Virus spread to new hosts. In order to reproduce, viruses such as HIV or HPV insert their DNA or RNA into ours, so it gets read and copied undetected during our normal cellular processes. These infected cells are anything but normal, however; they behave improperly or grow uncontrollably, causing cancerous growths and disabling immune function, as well making the host infectious to others. Creating worm-like cells is a bit strange, granted, but given that the Tangi Virus is extraterrestrial in origin, it doesn't necessarily have to follow viral reproductive processes we've seen before.
@@muffinmuffin8946 Yes! We see examples of worms using other species as part of their life cycle. Could be interesting if the virus was inside a parasite that infected the human, then the human was either part of the lifecycle or an incidental host.
As soon as she got terminated i knew that from there she should have just gone it alone. I felt dread when she shared the bottle with her supervisor- if the government itself was already infected its pretty obvious the lower rings would be to oof.
I think the guys at FPTV at first were not infected and barricaded themselves in the broadcasting station, sending out those messages, and when the infected almost broke in, they turned on that looped massage as the last resort
Honestly, if the tango virus turns out to be an alien pathogen brought to us by a crashed alien ship, that would be an amazing opportunity to pay homage to John carpenter’s The Thing
Sounds like smile tapes kinda like how symptoms started to make people smile infinitely and brutally murder people and also the man in the dreams controlling them
Hey Marcus, I don’t know if you’ll read this, but there is an analog horror out there called eventide media center. I love your videos and your breakdowns on analog horrors and look forward to each and every one of your videos!!! Keep it up mate and keep being awesome 🖤
If the water is infected would that mean that the crops they grow could be infected as well? Unless they don't grow them or use different water somehow?
Side note: rivers in Louisiana have very unpredictable highs and lows with dangerously varying levels of height. Any crops beside the river are liable to be flooded and destroyed after even the smallest rainfall. If crops are close to a river at all, they are behind a levy.
@@Tanni.3that seems way too far, as what's in water does not turn into a gas when the water does, especially not a living organism like the constituent parts of the tangi virus
Im so ecstatic your coverage of the tangi virus, i love vintage 8’s content and i hope you cover more of it!! And please do cover the sequel it opens up so much more !!
Also, I had a thought that maybe the creature we hear at the end might have been our answer to where all those missing people went... Not necessarily because they were consumed by it, but because it was using the parasitic infection to create a neural network within its prey, which would then puppeteer the infected toward it. From there, it would assimilate the flesh of the infected into its own biomass. Initially, this thing could've been living in the river, hidden. Biding its time and feasting on the free resources. But it would eventually need to further its growth, yes? So perhaps it became so large and ravenous that it caused the river to overflow so that could extend its reach and have access to its food supply. Eventually, there would be no one left to oppose it.
34:52 Something you may have missed is that this directly connects to the Winter of ‘82. The unnamed mysterious storm over Cate’s Crossing, causing 200 people to disappear. That was just fantastic.
Whats crazy is i live in south Louisiana so id probably be infected super early. Like the week after i watched this series i went visit my dad and crossed over this exact river and he lives a few miles from it. So id be screwed haha
I really get the vibe that this is inspired by a real story tbh. As in the landfill poisoning the water is VHS footage that seems, while out of context, to look real. Oh and viruses are not alive, bacteria and PARASITES, eg the real Guinea Worm Disease (yeah, the worm footage was also real, but obviously out of real context). Which infects you if you drink the water or stand barefoot in infected water. Borrows into your muscles, can become close to a meter, yes M!, long inside your muscles or intestine. A horrible infection of a parasite. Boiling the water (at sea level) for a while will kill the eggs.
@@erinw.9256 The higher you go above sea level. The lower the boiling temperature. If high enough, you can have boiling water that is not hot. It is the heat over time that kills stuff in water.
What if Water is an addictive substance? Like alcohol or opioids, severe addiction can lead to deadly withdrawal. What is drowning if not overdosing on water? This series has me convinced. I am now Anti Big Water
I haven’t seen anyone mention this but the Tangi water logo at very end has two cells in mitosis. Almost like the parasites (or aliens imo) are very blatantly saying “This water will change you. For better or for worse, it doesn’t matter. Just drink”. Such a good series!!
Vintage 8 always puts out banger analog horror series my favorite from them is the children under the house such a sad analog horror with such a heartwarming and great ending
Crazy thought: But if boiling kills it … Would going into a hot tub do the same thing? As a hot tub is like making a huge thing of hot water at temperatures of 100 it’s pretty close to a boiling temperature of 200. LOL Loved this one.
Well no. You would also die at that temperature. It is possible for humans to stay in hot water for a while because only the outside of your skin warms up to that temperature. But to kill it your insides would also have to reach that temperature, which’s not something you can survive.
As someone who’s biggest fear is catching a deadly disease and having to live for a period of time while being aware that it’s the end, the line, “I wanted to grow old, have children…now I’ll never do anything.” absolutely gutted me.
Honestly when they mentioned that the people would go to the river, I was like "ok, so that would be the reproducing cycle, right? Get the hosts back to the water to get the cycle going again". But mutation is quite interesting! Also, noticing how there is an urge to get out of the city (first with dr Julia thinking about going to Ireland or France, and then that warning to leave the parish when, by that point, a lot of people would already be infected). Spread, spread, my children, I guess...
When I saw the initial version on the channel, I initially thought it was an allegory on how we should take care of our environment lest it comes back to bite us. The updated compilation makes it abundantly clear that, yes, there is something else going on. And it's a lot bigger than one river...
Sheesh. that teaser was well done. How chaotic and scary! I would like to propose a theory on why it was scary. Besides the spooky white noise and the screaming, I think there's something in that teaser that exploits a fear that might be deep within us all. The fear of viruses and bacteria. With the Covid pandemic in recent memory, we can likely agree that people are scared of getting sick, and scared of a invisible foe that will make them sick. And viruses/bacteria have wiped out countless humans over millions of years, so we might have evolved to be afraid of viruses. In fact, it's likely that our pre-human ancestors from hundreds of millions of years ago already had this fear within them, and we just inherited the fear from *them.* And I think this teaser reawakens that fear with us (and maybe the whole video, which I have yet to watch, sorry). (If there are any scientists here, maybe they can fact check my theory of evolved fear, and see if it is valid.)
Psychology calls the evolved fear; ancient fear! It's a real theory that claims that we can "learn" fears (such as fears of predators) over generations! Of course, we can assume the same for pathogens too!
@@gachatana9656 Yes. Certain instincts (such as the libido) are inherited from our ancestors. Likewise, fear (which is often an instinct) could plausibly be inherited.
not even joking while watching my mom reminded me i need to drink some water because i don't drink enough and uh when she left i just kinda stared at the water and kept waching it was so perfectly and terrifyingly timed
While watching this video I couldn’t stop thinking of Thorian The Rotten from arcane lineage a giant monster who infects and slowly melts away all matter and he infects living beings with a sort of virus that acts kinda similar to the tangi virus and it turns peoples corpses into deadly enemies that have grown sharp claws made out of tumors and fleshy growths to infect more people
Fun fact: cats do something similar to this. Their waste has a sort of ‘virus’ in it that, when someone comes into contact with it, they are less afraid of cats. This was originally used to attract prey such as mice, but now it affects humans, too. It’s mostly harmless (as far as I know), but it’s what causes ‘crazy cat people’.
Bro i was waiting for someone to cover this, I know people have done it but they always count it off as some sorta "local zombie virus" even tho its like the end of mankind
lol as someone who's studied microbiology and parasitology, trying to rationalize how a virus could mature into a helminth was interesting-- I know it's fictional but I chuckled at that. Also, Giardia is such a uniquely shaped parasite if you ever look it up! It looks nothing like a worm lol
I watch these vids because im too much of a coward to watch em without someone talking and because your a genius i wouldn't have figured all this out on my own
My theory is that the missing people and the patients1,3, and 4 were turned into the amphibian monsters, because in one part,it was stated that some will turn into amphibious monsters,so the missing people were eaten or turned into the amphibian monsters
The boil advisery was used back in 2014 for Flint Michigan when the water supply source from Lake Huron to Flint River and is still going on.....10 YEARS LATER.

As a Louisianan you did pretty good with the pronunciation of Tangipahoa Parish, and it is crazy to hear landmarks I know personally in relation to each other. And yeah Our state is pretty naturally scary
I used to live there so I can agree
As a new orleans resident ima stick to milk for a while
When the first scientist stated "Boil the water," as her final words, I wondered if they were *her* final words, or the parasites' in her final words.
The virus could be like a spore, using RNA or its own DNA to mutate growing Stem cells into worms.
True, it makes more sense for the worm to 'hatch' the virus

Sounds like smile tapes kinda like how symptoms started to make people smile infinitely and brutally murder people and also the man in the dreams controlling them

If the water is infected would that mean that the crops they grow could be infected as well? Unless they don't grow them or use different water somehow?
As a lousiananian, I will say that next to none of our farms are near rivers, we get enough rainfall to not need irrigation.
Side note: rivers in Louisiana have very unpredictable highs and lows with dangerously varying levels of height. Any crops beside the river are liable to be flooded and destroyed after even the smallest rainfall. If crops are close to a river at all, they are behind a levy.
Could the rain also be contaminated because of the water cycle? (collection, evaporation, condensation, and precipitation) or is it far reach?
@@Tanni.3that seems way too far, as what's in water does not turn into a gas when the water does, especially not a living organism like the constituent parts of the tangi virus

Speaking facts
Fact
Gary is a real one for evacuating or trying to respect, rest in peace

So if you are just slightly above or below sea level, boiling won't work?
@@erinw.9256 The higher you go above sea level. The lower the boiling temperature. If high enough, you can have boiling water that is not hot. It is the heat over time that kills stuff in water.

Crazy thought: But if boiling kills it … Would going into a hot tub do the same thing? As a hot tub is like making a huge thing of hot water at temperatures of 100 it’s pretty close to a boiling temperature of 200. LOL Loved this one.
Well have fun because you cant go to the hot tub if its too hot

Me watching this while drinking water: 😨
🏳💀
Sheesh. that teaser was well done.
In fact, it's likely that our pre-human ancestors from hundreds of millions of years ago already had this fear within them, and we just inherited the fear from *them.*
And I think this teaser reawakens that fear with us (and maybe the whole video, which I have yet to watch, sorry).

Fun fact: cats do something similar to this. Their waste has a sort of ‘virus’ in it that, when someone comes into contact with it, they are less afraid of cats. This was originally used to attract prey such as mice, but now it affects humans, too. It’s mostly harmless (as far as I know), but it’s what causes ‘crazy cat people’.
i believe it's a parasite. toxoplasmosis?
It’s actually advised that those who are pregnant shouldn’t clean litter boxes as that virus can cause miscarriages or birth defects, I was told.
The boil advisory gets lifted: “TIMMY DONT DRINK THE WATER PLEASE NOO-“
Bro i was waiting for someone to cover this, I know people have done it but they always count it off as some sorta "local zombie virus" even tho its like the end of mankind
lol as someone who's studied microbiology and parasitology, trying to rationalize how a virus could mature into a helminth was interesting-- I know it's fictional but I chuckled at that. Also, Giardia is such a uniquely shaped parasite if you ever look it up! It looks nothing like a worm lol
