The vocals and instrumentation are so beautifully delivered this rendition totally wiped out the pain, depth and seriousness of the fruit. Doesn't even hint in presentation the sheer evilness of man's inhumanity to man. Pretty song.
Standing on a lakeshore in a fogless night, her voice comes drifting across the calm water in a smooth, moonlit cloud to touch your soul in its darkest, hidden rooms. There's no escape from such a deep beauty which is her voice.
Cassandra has done it again. Taken a classic and put her unique brand on it. This timeless classic is quite apropos to our current social and political climate. #BlackLivesMatter #AllLivesMatter
I love the song but we as a ppl will never realy get gist of the song. Simply because who she playing the song with. How can we have the enemy playing a song what they did to us? Skillz!! The spirit is different.
I really wanted to like this... maybe if I hadn't heard her "New Moon Daughter" version or Billie Holiday or Nina Simone's versions I could get behind it... I suppose it is otherworldly but it is also distracts from the lyrics
Her original interpretation on New Moon Daughter is way more powerful, this is a bit contrived... Still good but not the same sentiment as previously. Regardless CW is a legend.
this doesn't come close to real jazz singing. no improvisation. no vocal acrobatics. you should compare her to - sheila jordan - abbey lincoln - kitty margolis - esperanza spalding.
One of THE best versions of Strange Fruit. The instrumentals matched so well with her vocals. Absolutely haunting and heart-wrenching.
This would move a statue to tears. Superb reworking of a classic song she has done brilliantly before.
chill factor. they need to give this woman the grammy for best album of the year.
Solo Cassandra Wilson poteva "riscrivere" e "ri-cantare" questa song immortale! Meravigliosa interpretazione!!!!!
OMG! This lady just gets better and better! This is incredible! Cant wait to see her next Thursday nite performing these songs! A musical genius!
What a heartfelt tribute to Lady Day!
God save Cassandra! She is creating somethihg unthinkable! She discovers not only new ways, new horisons, but all new worlds! She is inexhaustible.
The Beautiful. Can't wait for the full album. You are loved.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (no words, real genius!)

She put so much emotion in this in my opinion almost cried it has sort of a mysterious haunting vibe too
Looking up concerts to go to and I came across her appearance date. I'm not going to be disappointed
Put quite simply, she is the best there is today.
Arresting arrangement. Hauntingly beautiful.
Wow. Love her voice, and the arrangement is beautifully done!
This calmed my heart. Cassandra's interpretation is like a cream for tired heart.
simply outstanding!!!
Fantastic.
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
voce fantastica
Adoro a Cassandra.
This is as dope as her first rendition of the song. CW is exquisite!!!
Really?
The goosebumps turned me into a whole new kind of a strange fruit.
Amazing Grace...
Excellent ...
Magistrale!
So nice that she had to remake it twice! :)
This song was my introduction to Cassandra Wilson in 2002.
Heart stopping brilliant. Transcending.

true! the production overpowers her voice & the lyrics. I love the guitar at the end but I want her voice mixed in above all of that.
🌸🍭🧡

first time hearing this version of the song, it is nice but it defeats the message.
I think it's a little over the top; very over produced and doesn't convey the gravity of the subject matter to me.
I think you need to listen to this with headphones. The entire thing. The erratic instrumentals behind is what makes this version so chilling.
Mmh this is just horrible cover of the queen billie holiday
It's not a cover. It's a jazz standard, made famous by Billie Holiday
