At first I was scared to do it. So I waited until week three. Then I saw Blaine doing it on day one so I did it in week 2. They got it. Then I did second person in week 3. First week, just third person. Second week, first and third. Third week, first, second, and third. But I never overwhelm. We only do say two different tenses per week and almost never all three in one week.

How do students acquire first person if the story is told in the 3rd person? Do you retell the story in the first person, before they practice?
We use slides with verb boxes that have the 1, 2, and 3 person. We start with the 3 person because it's easier and more natural.
But how can I retell the story in a language I've never acquired before? Have you used something like shadowing with students?
We go over the story, very slowly, over and over and over and over again. The students really like it.
