  • Quite a lot of interviews and conversations were filmed for Finding the Future (2003), a documentary on SF fandom. We have received permission to post the segments featuring Leslie Fish here. If you have enjoyed them, why not look up a copy of the full movie, with nearly two hours of similar footage?
Finding the Future was directed by Casey Moore, edited by Casey Moore and Joseph Formichella, and produced by Joseph Formichella, Charles Moore, and Michael R. Pryor.

Howdy Ms. Fish. So, for the most part most of the people I've known that love your songs are people on the internet. But a year ago I joined the Army and one of the guys in my platoon mentioned that he liked Filk. And he and I both were big fans of you!

Watching this video and hearing people warn about thoughtless genetic engineering while that's exactly what I'm doing for my phd is pretty funny.

Hahaha true, when Leslie said that even beggars would have "wrist computers" she is right, even here i sometimes see beggars and homeless people with a smartphone

It's very good that homeless people have smartphones. That's how people find jobs these days.

I personally am in agreement with those who believe the ancient Sumerian epic of Gilgamesh to be the first "science fiction" story.
Even if the people of the time lacked the understanding of how the universe works and the physics of it, it has all the necessary components to be "scifi".
It has a hyper-advanced ship made by a master (though to them it was still just a regular wooden ship, but it's sail let them sail through the air, ride on light itself... that's right, it literally had "solar sails" over 4000 years before they were invented for real).
It's characters sailed to other planets and moons.
There they encountered other peoples and civilizations.
They sailed the solar system and "beyond".
It had combat, sex, god-like beings, and utter primitives (even by ~2000BC standards).
And in the end they come back home to Earth to tell the tale.

I found the movie on eBay for $8.99 and $8.57 used - search for "finding the future dvd".
The songs are otherwise largely unavailable. We have concert recordings of most of these songs that we can remaster in the future, but that's waiting on the last 2 live Fish albums to sell enough to enable more.
