    Thanks, your video answered my question. I have to clean out my water line at the toilet. Most videos show the person removing or popping the cap off. I decided that this particular brand was NOT one of those that you remove the red cap; you twist it counter clockwise a quarter turn. Not all red caps work the same way. Glad I didn't break anything.

    The 6 variously colored fittings that come in the plastic bag are flow restrictors of narrow to wider inside diameters. They control the volume of water that flows into the toilet bowl during the time the tank is being refilled. I had to experiment with a few of them to get to the correct balance between time taken to fill the tank vs the correct amount of water in the bowl. Meaning if you use the higher flow restrictor it takes substantially longer to fill the tank because more water is going into the bowl. The instructions do not address this issue. They just say to use the same color restrictor that was on the fill valve being replaced. If you have a 7-year-old toilet like mine it did not have a restrictor device. So I had to guess.

    • @PaulinaRyder
      @PaulinaRyder 6 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, someone just replaced my old fill valve with this one. They used the blue restrictor but my toilet bowl is taking forever to fill. Was this what happened for you? My old fill valve was awesome and the bowl filled up quickly allowing for another flush very soon after if needed😂

    When I replaced the nipple and hose, I noticed water was leaking (more than your video). I decided to use the original hose which seems to have more of a grip and less leakage. Is that ok to have some water leak from the nipple (where it connects from the fill valve to the hose)?

    Quick question, i noticed you used the grey tab grabber, why that one? I’m not sure which color tab grabber I have to use so I’m gonna use the grey one because you used it. Also, what’s the first white wing nut you took out of the box first before the bag of parts for the replacement. I did t know what to do with that so I’m gonna just do the replacement/installation just like you did on this video. I just wanted to know why there were so much pieces in the kit that would confuse people if they didn’t need those parts. The instructions in the box didn’t really clarify. Thanks for the video and will be looking for a response.

    That's the same contraption some plumber put in my rental. Refill water comes out everywhere except the tube.
    The weird thing is, if I close the supply valve, wait 10 seconds and reopen it, the water comes out the tube where its supposed to. Doesn't matter if slightly cracked open or wide open.
    Next flush, it sprays out all around the underside of the red cap again. Drives me nuts.
    Yes, I removed the tube and bracket, and made sure they were clear. Also removed the red cap (several times, and it never cracked or broke), put a small bucket upside'down over that area and blasted fresh water thru it.
    Never saw anything come out. Tried flipping the black rubber washer thing over too. Seemed like it made it worse, so I put it back the way it was.

    So now does your toilet flush good with way less water in the tank? At 4:49 the new one is way shorter (look at the white collar) and at 7:03 how much lower than the watermark the water level is. I have a the same leak from a Brascraft fill valve. The Brasscraft valve uses a very similar pilot slave diaphragm arangment. The problem is chlorinated water in my area causes the diaphragm to swell. This restricts the flow through the tiny center passage through the diaphragm preventing it from shutting off completly. This happens about every three years on a valve warantied for ten. Brasscraft does not make available replacement diaphragms. Next time around I will replace it with a traditional valve/float arangment.

    Thank you…but you made one major mistake. You failed to adjust the height of the replacement fill valve to the same height of the old one that you were removing. The Kohler fill valve is height adjustable. You lift up the clear plastic ring so that you can adjust the height by turning and pulling. If it’s too high, the tank lid won’t close properly. If it’s too low, you won’t get enough water in the tank.

      What was that extra piece you put down?

      @ritaalbert1266 It's a white ring you pull-down to raise the fill valve

    4:32 unless your seal is leaking from the tank - you don't have to take the whole thing out. You can pull that plastic ring up and pull on the top shaft and the whole top comes off leaving the bottom intake. Then just slide the new one over the stalk and your done.

    Good video. Would have added two things: 1. The overall fill valve height is adjustable - show how and make sure height is correct for particular toilet; and 2. Show how to adjust float so that tank fills to proper level. Most people will figure this out on their own, but not everyone.

    I saw the video on how to replace the float valve assy. Was it as easy as it was in the video? Any leaks after install? Do you only need to tighten the mylon nut on the bottom of tank? No torquing necessary?

    • @fixintodoitall
      @fixintodoitall  Год назад

      Correct, very easy, everything by hand, no torquing. I only suggested that I needed a pair of channel locks to loosen because I had no idea how tight it would be, but I believe I could have gotten it with my bare hands. Thank you for asking and thank you for your support.

    I just installed the Koehler silent valve, and it is much louder than my old one and takes forever to fill the tank (about 2 min.). Any idea what may be causing this?

    • @fixintodoitall

      Not so 'silent' valve. My only suggestion is to reinstall it. Thank you for your question.

      Same but it's my toilet bowl that takes forever but it seems that the water is flowing into the bowl so strongly so I don't understand. It's extremely annoying and not silent at all. I had a fluidmaster pump before and it was awesome, I swear 30 seconds and you could flush again.
