One of my favorite bands live. I've seen them half a dozen times or so. I remember seeing them one night in Atlanta when another venue had pink floyd playing. It was a very intimate show and they were playing audience requests. They mentioned the obvious, core fans there that night. Nobody was enforcing seating and we were up front jumping up and down like a night club show. awesome.
On top of that he survived the red army, allied bombings, east Germany and extreme poverty. :) Unfortunately he lost about 85% of his eye sight at an very early age.
The absolutley most perfect live rock'n'roll performance! I give it a 10........X 10!!! one of the best songs to hear while driving No song catches the American spirit quite like this song
Wanted john kay to walk me to school every day..stop the bullies..having the band bros there would have been the topper..would not turn the group away…even today…❤️🇨🇦
couldnt agree more. man he looks so cool in there, he's around 60 or something, he's on stage in front of small, middle-aged audiance, and he still demonstrates the biggest and unique Rock spirit and coolness ever.
Born to be wild” was the main theme of the film “Easy Rider” starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, riding their Harley Davidson, going down in history as one of the most striking moments of the sixties counterculture, and to this day inspires not only motorcyclists, but many people around the world.
John Kay plays a mean guitar solo here. Way cool in every way! A great great performance by one of the most iconic rock acts of all time performing the most iconic biker rock song of all time!
Jon Kay and the band brings it real again. This song does have more genuine meaning and heart than many may ever discover. First time I heard this version and it ROCKS.
WOW! Thanks so much for this. I saw Steppenwolf for the first time when they opened for a band called "Chicago Transit Authority," at that time calling themselves "CTA," who later became just "Chicago." Steppenwolf blew everyone else off the stage. The opening of Magic Carpet Ride still gives me chills and brings back memories of wearing suede "hot pants" and matching knee-high boots, and a fringed vest that fanned out when you're dancing. If only we'd known then that we had the world in the palm of our hands and there was nothing we couldn't do. Thanks for reminding me that we're all still "ROCK STARS" and continue to shine on. Still amazing.
What an amazing performance and what an enthousiasm and power they still play this song with after all these years!!!! Too good! I really enjoyed watching and listening this
I think this is the first time I've seen John Kay perform without glasses! As i commented on the Magic Carpet Ride Video, this 67 year old falls somewhere in the badass category.

I'm a lucky person because I meet John Kay in school, we went at same classroom and let me tell you, he is so quit person, but with lots of talent on music!!!!
I met John Kay once about 1989 shook his hand and he wouldn't let go lol. But I had to go somewhere so I moved on. He was in excellent physical condition, as he appears in this video. And it's like 20 years later when this was recorded I believe!!

Dieses Lied wird man noch in vielen vielen Jahren hören. Wenn wir schon lange vergessen sind wird es dieses Lied noch geben und es wird gern gehört werden. Und das ist auch gut so. Hardly recognize John Kay's voice now, but the man is still going strong and, the totally refurbished band sounds great. OMG the keyboardist, where has this guy been hiding?...awesome!!
@edmour I had a similar experience. I knew the song long before i took my drivers licence but when i began my driving lessons i went into complete celibacy with this song. I would not listen to it all.. until the day that i got my licence to drive. I took my parents car, went to a long stech of road, turned the volume max and rolled the windows down. I have never been so estatic in my life. Through the duration of the song i felt truly alive!:)

Are you kidding? He's really showing his age, and well past his singing prime.

LYRICS : "Born To Be Wild" - Steppenwolf (1968)
Writers : MARS BONFIRE
"Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild
Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die
Born to be wild
Born to be wild".
