great find, i would love to visit there. I think possibly the 1916 graves are mostly wounded from the battle of the somme, who where taken to Ireland to recover but died of wounds. The different designs are the cap badges and logos of the regiments they served in. Rest easy lads x
The gravestones on top of the hill as if going into battle . Reminded me of pictures I've seen of the boer war or maybe it was the film . A fitting peaceful resting place for victims of war . Thank you 🌻
Military cemeteries are a sad place looking at all who gave all for their country. This is such a unique place with all the different stones. Beautiful view. RIP to all.
Thank you Irish Eyes, for doing this Military Cemetery walk. I think these cemeteries and cemetery military areas are my most drawn to. All who served have my utmost respect. May they all be resting peacefully.
Thank you so much, a true look at the past on these headstones. Each carving on the headstone depicts the regimental badge of the soldier, their number and rank etc. So many here from 1916, sad but history none the less. Blessings to you 💕🇦🇺
I'll have to go and see this when I'm in Ireland. We've driven through the Curragh but I've never seen this. The different carvings on the headstones are the persons regiment. A lovely setting so many young lives lost. There is Donnerlys Hollow up there too on the Curragh Daniel Donnerlys was an early boxer and used to fight there. His arm used to be in a case in a pub I remember going there my first time in Ireland in the 80s it's not there now. There is also Father's Moore Well. Interested to see what else you and Sue covered while you were up there. Take care and safe travels.
The first world war, known as The Great War, took place from 1914 to 1918. I suspect many of those newer stones mark the site of burial of sons of British land owners in Ireland, who fought with Britain in that war. The coats of arms on the headstones certainly suggest that. It's very possible that their graves were recorded, but not officially marked, until a later time. This was because Ireland was still fighting for it's basic rights and independence from Britain at that time, and the issue was very sensitive. Having won it's independence and built Ireland back to the great success it is today, people have a greater empathy and understanding.
Beautiful presentation mate, when I think of what I was doing at 16 in contrast to those fellas I count myself very fortunate to be born when I was. May they all R.I.P in the barracks above ,god bless their memories,👏👏👏fromballarat n Oz.🇦🇺
So different to see a cemetery in such a large open field. Beautiful nonetheless. It's overwhelming to realize an entire generation of young men killed ,never to live a full life. Would like to say that your videos are getting better each time! You are a fast learner! See you next time.👍😊
Wow, the views of the countryside from the top of the hill are stunning! So many young men, so sad. 😔 Rest in peace to those brave young men. 🙏 Nice job, Irish eyes
So many soldiers gave their lives for their country..and bravely so. But so terribly sad how young many of them were. There is something special about military cemeteries.
@@GraveVisitations There seems to be an even deeper feeling of reverence at military cemeteries when we understand that these soldiers made a decision to fight for freedom, knowing there was a real possibility that they would not return home.
