At first I was confused and was looking for a straightforward answer as to which staff was the best but after taking the time to think and relisten to the video I’ve realized how super helpful this video is. This guy provided the stats, info and input for all the staffs which is amazing. I know what I really want to build with and up to now. Great job and thanks for making this video!
@@PlayDohBear and of course if you have a lot of levels and you're going New game Plus and you game plus New game Plus then you go for the true best staff the death prince staff which I'm currently using
@@PlayDohBear Great guide, can you do a guide on how duo wielding staffs work? I'm about to go into a NG+ sorc spell run, and plan to do so, and I've never done magic in souls games before.
@@MattDoesLife539 Don't think a guide is needed at this time, but maybe will get around to it a bit later. Basically you want to equip a staff with a passive bonus, then cast with your main staff. Just note that the lusat's staff requires you to cast with that staff to get the damage bonus (otherwise you are just wasting your fp). This staff has its bonus baked into the sorcery scaling and not really a passive.
This is actually the one video I needed and actually ANSWERS our question of 'best staff in the game' - unlike so many videos that are out there claiming to know. Thank you for the spreadsheet and breaking down various scenarios that may shift one staff to another. I obviously won't give anything away in the comments, but I will say that this is perhaps THE STAFF video you've been looking for if you're interest in min/max builds and maximizing damage, etc. Thank you for taking the time to create this gem.
Np Kel! Thank you for the kind words! I've already transitioned to the best late game staff (video soon, still finalizing things). It is poggers if you're in the late late game!
@@PlayDohBear I don't know if you had it in your list of future projects, but these scaling/min/max videos could make for a great series. Like... best heavy late game armor, best light late game armor, best STR weapon, best STR/DEX weapon, etc. etc. I watched your Seal/Incantation spreadsheet video as well - another great job well done.
@@Kelgogi For armor its whatever I think because you'll be able to pump enough points into endurance to pretty much wear anything that late and still be med equip load. Otherwise it's cosmetics + defense. Not a bad idea for the weapons although may have to split those up into lots of videos. Don't want an hour long + one eyyo. Not sure how I'd start for those, we shall see.
Focus on the prince of death staff for late late game after Carian regal scepter! You can check out the latest video featuring that staff. Links in the description!
@@PlayDohBear my friend Im new in the game I want some advice I reach 70 intelligence and I want to use the carian regal scepter what more stat I must increase to have perfect sorcery scaling for this staff?
Thank you for having a chart I can look at instead of just saying MOST OP STAFFS! You won't BELIEVE number four! It's good to have some nice, solid data for once - much appreciated.
I went Int/Dex on my first run and I tested the staffs through the game. In short, pick the Meteorite staff as soon as you can, from around 40 to 60 int use the Carian glintblade and from 60 and above use the Carian Regal Scepter. I would recommend Lusat's staff only if you don't mind the 50% fp increase or if you have a lot of fp to spare, otherwise the regal Scepter is much better.
This helped a great deal. Loved the meteorite staff early on but was able to drop it & move to prince of death staff for 60 int. Keep the great vids coming!
Demi-Human queen staff is honestly great if you wanna do a magic weapon type of build. Loretta's mastery is the most demanding weapon spell and requires 46 INT so still within the staff's scaling peak, meaning so long as you get 41 INT and slap on Stargazer's Heirloom you're free to focus on things like vigor and mind to sustain your magic weapons :D
Great vid and phenomenal patience answering everyone's questions. All of the info one could need is provided in the video and you still take the time to help those that aren't understanding. Bravo, sir 😍
Thank you my man! I don't mind answering the questions. Sometime I may not explain it clearly enough and for some ppl English may not be their first language (it's not mine either, but pretty much is at this point). I also don't blame the bigger RUclipsrs for not being able to do the same thing. They get like thousands of comments and that's just impossible to manage.
6:37 This is something that is a little too harsh on the Demi-Human staff. It is THE best all-around staff for anything below level 40 Intelligence. Super good for casually playing and not having to min-max every god damn little thing. Plus it looks good :p
If spell casting isn’t your main thing like for my build but you still use some spells then it is really handy, I finally see why they say only fools laugh at it in the description. I miss the chime from dark souls 3 that you could cast everything aside from pyromancer stuff with.
I’m using a DEX/INT/FAITH build using Magma Sorceries, Fire incantations, etc. and Im trying to get the Gelmir Staff, but for now the Demi-Staff has been an awesome alternative for now.
I've been using the Staff of Loss and, in my opinion, it is excellent. This is because Night Comet is absolutely one of the best spells in the game for PvE. This spell has the cast speed and projectile shape of Glintstone Pebble, but with some huge advantages: it travels much farther, enemies do not sidestep/dodge it, it can pass through enemies and hit multiple enemies with a single projectile, and it does much more damage. For whatever reason, the Staff of Loss gives a much greater boost to Night Comet and Night Shard than the other staves give their respective spells. So even though the Staff of Loss has fairly poor sorcery scaling, it ends up being extremely good for PvE content where you can spam Night Comet.
@First Last pretty sure you can run two staff of loss and get an additional 30% buff making it 60% with both in hand. If you do that. It would probably out preform the other staffs but idk
@@TheRandomMuffinMan there are better and stronger spells to take on bigger enemies that don’t dodge to beat the game as a spell caster. The night spells are mainly good vs enimies who dodge. Which is only a few in PVE.
The fact that you can hold a staff in the non-casting hand and still gain it's passive is huge. For instance, the Staff of Loss buffs Night Comet being cast from Lusat's/Carian Regal by a lot (don't have numbers in front of me) to the point that I've replaced Glintstone Cometshard / Glintstone Icecrag with this projectile. Enemies will not dodge Night Comet making this an indispensable spell against humanoid enemies and it gains the buff from Godfrey's Icon (+12%). Staff of the Guilty works similarly for the blood spells making a Blood Mage build possible. Remember, you don't have to upgrade these staffs, just hold them in your non-casting hand.
A lot of people here don't know this trick! Right hand: Carian Regal Sceptar +10 or Lusat's +10 Left hand: Any staff that applies a passive bonus with no upgrades Cast with your right hand as your magic scales with the +10 staff and it will also get the damage increase from the staff in your left hand. Make sure the staff in your left hand works with the spell you're casting!
@@cdchai Just like with dual wielding seals, you can do so for the staffs. Will vary by playstyle for sure. I am def a staff + weapon player but have my moments where I go staff + staff.
@@PlayDohBear I usually walk around with a shield and staff but lately, I just walk around with a phalanx floating over me and night comet waiting to be cast. For PvE I find I don't really need a shield and can just swap the off hand staff to Moonveil if I need it. Adding the % increase for each staff to its spells would round out the spreadsheet though.
@@cdchai Good call. I can update the spreadsheet with the % bonus. I did for seals and haven't updated this yet but can do. On a side note, I've been favoring more of just keeping a dagger with blood hound step and just dashing in and out using good ol slicer with the ancient death rancor combo. Great stagger and can just spam enemies with that slicer while they are getting blasted. Very effective for knights in any area with shields. Mostly for mobs though, on bosses just do the same combo but with anything else really.
Great spreadsheet. I would love to see a video regarding testing/stun stats of spells. I feel as if death spells have great stun abilities even if their damage isn’t that great.
Best death spell is Ancient death rancor. All other ones are not worth the time (imo). It has amazing stagger which you can use to follow up with spells or melee. While it won't stagger enemies to the ground that often, the follow up value is insane.
@@PlayDohBear Yeah I agree, I still think a breakdown of stun stats or other intricacies of spells would be an interesting video. Especially late game when you have the fp to spare, it’s just so boring to cast the same glint stone sorceries.
Ii use lusats staff, Night comet, arc, moonblade, stars of ruin, rock sling, rannis moon, mastery. I also run the graven talis with a erdtree +2 and radagon icon. I smoke things with comet.
Nice video! I used the Meteorite staff the whole game lol. I upgraded my melee weapon instead, magic was still fantastic. Going to try upgrading a few of the other staffs I have, am at level 182. Really enjoyed my mix of magic and melee (prisoner).
The Gelmir Staff is neat, there are some strong magma spells. It has 2 problems though. 1: It's a rare drop. 2: The poor scaling makes it unusable. It's a hybrid staff for god sake, You need twice the stat investment to get the most out of it compared to Lusat's, and look at how shitty that scaling is.... If FromSoft bumped its boost to magma spells from 15 to 35% it would be an incredible staff for magma spells only (340 scaling with a 35% boost for magma spells would give it the equivalent of having a 456 scaling, slightly stronger than the prince of death staff. IMO thats still not worth it because we are talking a hybrid staff just like the prince of death staff, and its only for a few specific spells whereas the prince of death can cast everything at that insane power, but hey, it would be a step in the right direction). Staves that buff specific spells should be stronger (except for meteorite staff) than staves like Lusat's Glintstone staff when casting the specific spells they buff. This would make more staffs in the game worth using. Right now, Meteorite Staff, Lusat's Glintstone Staff, Carian Regal Scepter and Prince of Death staff are the only staves worth using. Maybe you might use the Albinauric Staff if you are doing some sort of magic + melee Bleed or frost buildup build where the arcane scaling would be a benefit. It's such a shame.
Facts. I'm on the prince of death now (super over lvled) and it does feel great. If you're a mage that into late game, it's really the only option. Perhaps some passive numbers get buffed to make them viable, but yeah... I don't even look at the fire spells atm. I've tried them for sure, but it's very underwhelming.
@@PlayDohBear Cast with Lusat's / Carian Regal Sceptar while holding the Gelmir Staff in your off hand. You get the passive effect applied while scaling off of Lusat's / CRS. FromSoft wants dual wielding mages to be a thing where they just swap which staff they're holding in their off hand for the buffs from the passives.
@@cdchai Not a fan of dual wield staffing personally, esp. now that I am maining Prince of Death staff with 80 int and 80 faith. Def an option just like dual wielding seals though. Sometimes I do dual wield with Carian for some extra ranni's dark moon though! I just like the staff + weapon playstayle haha.
thanks for this, it was way to confusing figuring out what all this crap ment. i kept looking at the Regal needing high INT just to use and have an S rank yet the Meteor has S for nothing and now i get it
I've been starting a weird Level 150 faith/arc invader (some INT, 51 poise, 50+vig, etc.) and wanted the bleed and death sorceries - the Albinauric staff is a godsend omg, at +19 and 28/48, I've already 271 adjust. I kind of hope death sorceries scale with arc like the thorn ones
@@PlayDohBear oh I mean the status buildup for Fia's mist^ The thorn sorceries' bleed do for example with that staff, and madness/bleed do for dragon communion's, so I made the character assuming it'd help death blight, but idk (since rot for example isn't affected sometimes)
@@PlayDohBear oh yeah I know, apart from character lore, persona and such, usually my builds are centered around invasions for certain areas. I said they were an invader^^ I've just not been able to compare normal staffs vs albinauric's for those yet - not much reason to use Fia's mist apart from their roleplay if it's not scaling tbh
6:45 the level of details is something else 😂 Thanks man for the VERY helpful video I'm using the Lusat Glinstone staff maxed out, should I change to Carian Regal or stay with Lusat ?
Using carion glintblade staff +23 cuz I love abula moonblade and going switch to the royal carion staff until I get to +70 int. My character is intelligence stregth and dex build. Level 160 but don't have a single Stat over 60 but 4 above 40 and 2 above 55.
Been using the Meteorite staff up until a few days a go. Got my hands on a the Crystal staff upgrade it to +6 using somber smithing stone and it out damaged all my spells including Rock Sling witch is supposed to get a bonus with M.Staff.
What's your current INT at atm? Checking the math, you would need 70 INT to overtake the Meteorite Staff with Crystal staff at +6. And that is marginal at best (265 scaling on the Crystal staff and 258 on the Meteorite staff). At that rate, you can just swap to a staff with better returns. Meteorite should still do more damage with Rock Sling with this minor difference, as it boosts gravity spells by 30%. Do you happen to know where/which enemies you tested this one by chance?
@PlayDohBear just did the test again and I got that wrong. Rock Sling still does over a hundred damage with Meteorite Staff. I must have confused myself with all the numbers 😅 😬
Quick question, but did you happen to see the Rage Gaming video (a few weeks back now, iirc) where they mention that Staff of Loss gives a whopping 30% Damage boost to those two specific ‘Night Sorceries’, Night Shard / Comet, and that if you hold it in the Offhand while casting Night Comet w the Carian or Lusat’s in the main hand… it SEEMS to result in the highest damage ‘basic ranged projectile magic’ in the game ? Has your testing confirmed this (admittedly kinda Niche) effect ? 😅
@@PlayDohBear I was thinking that too - most likely, end-game, what do you find yourself casting as your ‘basic’ projectile spell then ? ‘Regular Comet’ , that you pickup at Raya Academy in that secret side room ? Or something even more punchy ?
For the fellow mages. Start with Astrologer staff, get Metiorite and start using it until U get hands on the sceptor, use sceptor off hand until it over powers Metiorite, get Lusat and use it as power up in boss fights. Finally get the prince of death and if u like incantation and magic then destroy everything with Prince of death. So the two staffs are must +10 for mages sceptor and Lusat with Prince of death optional. Cheers
I would recommend watching the video once more and taking a look at the spreadsheet either in the video or the description. If it's early/mid game and you have not updated a certain staff you want to use, it will always be the Meteorite Staff. But if you have materials to upgrade a staff to +10 the video/spreadsheet will answer that question on what the best scaling staff is at 40 INT.
With a Strength/Intelligence casting build, I'll probably be using Carian Regal. Since needing 80 Int/Faith for PoD would make the rest of my stat spread embarrassingly low like Vigor, Strength, Endurance, and Dexterity. For a pure caster the extra damage might be worth it, but I don't think that min/max is for me. As said, it's more for super late game with a near max character. So I'll probably pick it up whenever I can get a stat spread of 80.
Early on I watched a video that said the demi-human was one of the best in the game, once upgraded. But, to be fair, that was before we had all the data we have now. But I’ve got the dang thing to +16 and invested too much to stop now 😂. And once I hit 60 int I’ll switch to one of the good staffs. I already have one at +7. I just can’t really equip it yet.
My intelligence is 77 and I use the crystal staff. However I never use any crystal spells and it still is a unit. Maybe I’ll have to look around switch it up. It’s doing great as a level 126
@@PlayDohBear I’m not sure where to go. Because the luzat staff is upgraded and still doesn’t have the same scaling as my crystal staff. Is the crystal staff max +10?
@@blueT46 yes crystal is max 10. It will take some lvls for it to surpass a fully maxed staff. Check the video or the spreadsheet in the description. It shows you the scaling for all the staffs (at +10). Should make the decision easy.
It's very obscure. If you have Matchmaking on, you can see signs from other regions and other players from other regions can see your sign. Basically I'm assuming this is for outside your region. So if you're NA for example, you'll be able to see signs from people in EU. Don't get it confused with crossplay, because this game does not support crossplay.
@@PlayDohBear yeah alot of the times when I wanna summon someone I get that message unable to summon operator idk why that keeps occuring I wasn't sure if the match making had anything to do with it or played a role in it
For the hybrid staffs some of them hit S scaling in the alternate stat (faith/arcane) when do those start dropping off if you decided to go only the recommend int to weild it? I.e faith only or arcane only
Faith and Arcane both have the same soft caps for for those hybrid staffs at 30/45 (you can still take it higher for more damage of course, but the returns are not as good). For mages, it's better to just invest points into a pure INT staff until you're in the late game for The Prince of Death's Staff. Even though it is a hybrid staff, it has the standard 60/80 softcaps. Albinauric is good too if you want to go the arcane route with int, but scaling is not as good. Does open up nice dragon incantations if you also use the dragon communion seal. My vote is still the Prince of Death's though.
Does the higher scaling number always correspond to higher damage output? Might seem like a silly question but I wonder about that and how the number is calculated. I would expect that the int+faith hybrids should do a lot more damage since you're literally doubling your point investment, so question is does the scaling number fully reflect that? I need to see damage comparison numbers on a target (say a giant) for carian regal & lusat vs albinauric & prince of death, using a skill that isn't passively boosted by any of those. But damn I'm still far from being able to do that myself when it comes to skill points.
Yeah Gerrit it does. Although sometimes if the scaling is close enough and there's a passive applied from the staff, it can be higher in dps. The hybrid seals do a quite a bit of damage comparing it to most of the average staffs. However, the most noticeable one is the prince of death. 430 at 80/80 surpasses every staff in the game, however the lusats is extremely close (at the cost of extra fp). As far as how much scaling = in damage, I don't have those numbers :3
@@PlayDohBear so if you were wanting to stay at around the 135 PVP level, would you recommend using Carian Glinstone for pure int to say 80? Because at the moment I'm trying to use either death magic and split into 40/40. With the Prince of Death staff, or the Albo (the arcane one) would it do more damage if say int was at 80 and faith was at 40, or would it do more damage if it was say 60 int 60 faith evenly split? Same split answer would be applicable to all dual staffs right (like the arcane/int staff)? I'm positive you addressed this in the vid but a fair bit of it went over my head lol sorry man, I'm so grateful to have blokes like you to help people like me regarding elden ring :)
@@tommo9176 you'll need to use the weapon calculator to see which combo gives you the higher scaling/bonuses to the sorceries you want to use. That will give you concrete numbers and make the decision a lot easier.
Rewatch the video and skip to the prince of death staff section again. It's a hybrid staff so it requires equal points into faith as well to over take any other staff. Best staff once you can put 80 int and 80 faith. Even 70/70 is pretty solid.
I answered this elsewhere, but there are only 3 hybrid staffs in the game. Gelmir, alburnaric, and prince of death. While others have scaling in other areas like str, it actually doesn't provide any additional sorcery scaling.
Do you mean from its scaling or the passive bonuses some apply? For that you'll have to test the damage with one staff vs. another. Just find an enemy near a grace to test it on.
Aww man, I was really hoping to be able to use it when it try a mage build. I didn't want to carry a staff and a sword. I wanted to go dual swords if I could still cast spells with the glintstone sword. Is that not possible? I'm ne to the game and I'm using a melee build, so I don't know how things are supposed to work.
@@PlayDohBear so the combination sword staff doesn't act as a staff, despite the fact that it can shoot short ranged glintstone beams? I'm guessing it's ability to do that is the skill of the sword and not the actual sorcerer's ability. Hence the reason why it can't substitute as a staff for spells?
can you put gelmir staff on right hand and cast black flame incantations on left? wanted to use sword spells with blackflames. is practical? is it good for end game?
Damn I’m an idiot and chose the moon spell over the staff against my better judgment and didn’t learn about mausoleums until after the fact. I’ve been using Lusat’s staff and it is super fp hungry. What would you recommend in my situation if I’m no longer able to get the scepter?
Have you used all your mausoleums yet? You can still dupe the Remembrance even if you use it. IIRC, you need to find the mausoleum that has the bell, which should allow you to dupe any you've found. Crystal staff is nice if you can't get the Carian, but you can play around the Lusat's with a few talisman choices and maybe more to mind. Prince of Death staff late late game.
If you are using lusat staff when u reach the ice area, try to find splintblade talisman. It reduces spell fp cost but reduce your max hp. My pebbles now cost 8 fp since i used lusat.
@@ambientedge952 yeah. You don’t need to have the remembrance to duplicate it. These mausoleums have record of all the remembrances you’ve acquired (I didn’t know this until I entered one the first time).
Soooo I'm thinking of leaving my character maybe at 40 or 45 int because I'm a hybrid of strength/int. That means that my best choice for this is the worst staff in-game? The demi-human queen staff? In fact that's the one I've been using because it has been the best scaling one up to this point. Currently my character is at 38 int. My demo-human staff is at lvl 14 and I upgraded the academy staff up to the same level just to compare the scaling and it was exactly down by 2 points
@@PlayDohBear forgot to delete the comment. Hahaha I already checked the calculator and yeah, after 40 int the staff becomes pretty much useless. Thanks for the answer, thanks for the video and thanks for the link to the calculator, it really helped a lot.

I was playing with Meteorite until I was able to fully upgrade the Regal Scepter and been using it ever since with Meteorite or Staff of Loss in off hand (hadn't realized how strong Night Comet was, definitely one of the hardest hitting spell and you can chain cast so quickly). I'm getting close to level 200 now, how much point in Faith makes the Death's staff overtake the Regal Scepter in terms of scaling? Also, if you get to 80 Faith what kind of build becomes possible as mainly a mage since beginning of the game, it'd be nice to understand what additional options you have in weapons or even incantation. Thanks!
You're welcome! And going to make you do some homework 😂 You can look at the video or the spreadsheet to see when the prince of death staff begins to overtake all the other staffs. Make sure you go over the video once again. It is a hybrid staff so requires equal points into both INT and FAITH to reach 448 at +25. 99 in INT 99 in faith. The sweet spot is 80 INT and 80 FAITH for 430 Scaling.

N I'm currently using the meteor staff.. Which staff should I switch to upgrading.. Take in mind.. I'm most likely not gona reach level 80,90 or 100 cause I'm trying to level up other stats too
I’m playing with no internet and apparently if you haven’t updated the game, the meteor staff just isn’t there. Basically the one OP staff I want isnt inaccessible. Frustrating.
It does, spreadsheet has the Bonus: Night Shard, Night Comet (the only 2x spells it gives a damage bonus too - aka the invisibility sorceries). If you check the wiki: eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Staff+of+Loss - It also mentions "This staff is only capable of casting invisibility sorceries, but that is reason enough for some to wield it." Says this in-game description as well, but it can cast all spells 🤷♂
I feel like From dropped the ball here when it came to staffs. Like pretty much your only option if your a mixed melee/magic build is the meterorite staff.
The hybrid staffs are broken, in the bad way. Hybrid seals actually work well, where if you split your scaling between two stats you actually end up with comparable scaling to the good faith only seals, but that just isn't true for the hybrid staffs. The 40-40, 50-50, or similar splits should be comparable to at least one of the good 80 int staff scalings, but they're all just usually dwarfed by an int only staff at 60 int. Miyazaki why
There's zero incentive to use any other staff. At any stage of the game meteorite staff is still competitive or outright beating most other staffs. Better to use your smithing stones for melee weapons: their damage gains are much more meaningful.
The meteorite is strong for sure, but gets out classed eventually. If you're going mage, you'll have enough ancient somber smithing stones to do your weapon plus the staff, and that's just for the ones that use somber stones. Plenty of great options that just use smithing stones and ancient dragon smithing stones as well. You'll also be able to easily upgrade anything to +9 and +24 by the time you beat the game, so even at +9 and +24 (and depending on the staff much earlier than +9 and +24) they will all outclass the meteorite staff.
I dont so much mind the meteorite staff being powerful. My biggest issue is that even late game there are only a handful of staves worth using. If its your first playthrough, it's even less, only 3 staves in the game are useable: Meteorite staff early on. Later on, Carian Regal Scepter for general use and Lusat's Glintstone Staff for nuking bosses and PvP. In new game + playthroughs that gets expanded by 2 more with the Prince of Death staff if you pump int and faith and if you want to do some sort of spell casting build with strong melee weapon procs (like bleed and frost buildup), the Albinauric Staff will replace the Carian Regal Scepter for your general non boss/pvp spell combat. If a staff buffs specific spells (except for the meteorite staff, as it is already incredibly good) it should be more powerful than the staves I mentioned above for casting those specific spells. Also, Hybrid staves should never have poor scaling like Gelmir's staff. They require double the stats to get good scaling compared to staffs that scale with int only.
@@ronjohnson2760 I agree there would be more variety if the staffs with bonuses did better damage with there respective spells instead of just using 1 staff for all of them
@@PlayDohBear i appreciate your effort, but making a video about something you cant see in the video itself just because you can download it from the web does not make much sense.

Great video and thanks for taking the time to share! One challenge: IMO you are too rough on the demi-human staff. It's a very accessible early game staff and outclasses the starting astrologer staff in every way at sub-40 INT and the +3 to +10 range of upgrades. For folks who did not choose to seek out the meteorite staff early, this one is worth getting from Weeping Peninsula. Obviously you replace it later with one that scales better with higher INT.

This guy provided the stats, info and input for all the staffs which is amazing. I know what I really want to build with and up to now. Great job and thanks for making this video!

@@Kelgogi For armor its whatever I think because you'll be able to pump enough points into endurance to pretty much wear anything that late and still be med equip load. Going to try the Int+faith build
Ty ty! Appreciate it!
GOD mode haha
I went Int/Dex on my first run and I tested the staffs through the game. In short, pick the Meteorite staff as soon as you can, from around 40 to 60 int use the Carian glintblade and from 60 and above use the Carian Regal Scepter.
I would recommend Lusat's staff only if you don't mind the 50% fp increase or if you have a lot of fp to spare, otherwise the regal Scepter is much better.
This helped a great deal. Loved the meteorite staff early on but was able to drop it & move to prince of death staff for 60 int. Keep the great vids coming!
Thanks so much rodimus! Will do my best!
This is the type of content I wish I did, this video is severely underrated. Amazing job!

5:30 was the answer to the question I've had for a while. I think it's too bad those with specialties still get out performed by general scaling.
You can dual weild staffs to get an additional passive bonus to those spells, but it's pretty niche.

Oh thank god a clear chart.

Again!! very informative :)
My man legend. First as always
Right hand: Carian Regal Sceptar +10 or Lusat's +10
Left hand: Any staff that applies a passive bonus with no upgrades
Cast with your right hand as your magic scales with the +10 staff and it will also get the damage increase from the staff in your left hand.
Mostly for mobs though, on bosses just do the same combo but with anything else really.
if I hold Lusat staff on non casting hand, does the passive double FP consumption apply?

@@lexus134 Really great vs. those fucking blue crystal little shits. Fuck pogo stick guy.
Death sorceries just scale off your current staff scaling. The INT and ARC are just there as a requirement to use the spell.
@@PlayDohBear oh I mean the status buildup for Fia's mist^ The thorn sorceries' bleed do for example with that staff, and madness/bleed do for dragon communion's, so I made the character assuming it'd help death blight, but idk (since rot for example isn't affected sometimes)

@@PlayDohBear 70 int

Quick question, but did you happen to see the Rage Gaming video (a few weeks back now, iirc) where they mention that Staff of Loss gives a whopping 30% Damage boost to those two specific ‘Night Sorceries’, Night Shard / Comet, and that if you hold it in the Offhand while casting Night Comet w the Carian or Lusat’s in the main hand… it SEEMS to result in the highest damage ‘basic ranged projectile magic’ in the game ? Has your testing confirmed this (admittedly kinda Niche) effect ? 😅
Mentioned in my latest mage build guide. Also the spreadsheet has the damage information. Accurate though but yeah niche imo.
@@PlayDohBear I was thinking that too - most likely, end-game, what do you find yourself casting as your ‘basic’ projectile spell then ? ‘Regular Comet’ , that you pickup at Raya Academy in that secret side room ? Or something even more punchy ?
@@AlekTrev006 icecrag for sure. Personally my favorite.
Cheers
i have 40 int so what the best staff for that?
I would recommend watching the video once more and taking a look at the spreadsheet either in the video or the description. If it's early/mid game and you have not updated a certain staff you want to use, it will always be the Meteorite Staff. But if you have materials to upgrade a staff to +10 the video/spreadsheet will answer that question on what the best scaling staff is at 40 INT.
Thank you so much.
You are most welcome!
The only Question that is open: The Prince of Death Staff, how much does it improve the death magic?
About 15% from my testing. Check out my new late late late game mage guide that goes over the staff and more! It's in the video description :)
Great choice and yeah the PoD staff is for the late late game.
Haha, all good! Those resources are infinite late game, minus the ancient variety.
What would be better a +10 Carian Regal Scepter at 80 INT or a +25 Prince of Death's Staff at 80 INT and 60 Faith?
My intelligence is 77 and I use the crystal staff. However I never use any crystal spells and it still is a unit. Maybe I’ll have to look around switch it up. It’s doing great as a level 126
You should! Don't leave free damage on the table.

What is the difference between perform match making and no match making under the cross region play in the settings?
It's very obscure. If you have Matchmaking on, you can see signs from other regions and other players from other regions can see your sign. Basically I'm assuming this is for outside your region. So if you're NA for example, you'll be able to see signs from people in EU. Don't get it confused with crossplay, because this game does not support crossplay.
@@PlayDohBear yeah alot of the times when I wanna summon someone I get that message unable to summon operator idk why that keeps occuring I wasn't sure if the match making had anything to do with it or played a role in it
@@DLiMiT973 Not too sure myself. I rarely play multiplayer with friends. And the times I've tried it's been really inconsistent.
Hmm, at 60 int, 25 faith, I'm seeing better scaling with Carian Regal Scepter than Prince of Death Staff or Academy Glinstone staff. Thoughts?
Rewatch the video and skip to the prince of death staff section again. It's a hybrid staff so it requires equal points into faith as well to over take any other staff. Best staff once you can put 80 int and 80 faith. Even 70/70 is pretty solid.
@@PlayDohBear Thanks. Looks like Carian Regal Scepter will be better than Academy Glinstone staff as well with those stats, per the calculator.
@@lancecurrie4220 yep! It's the best overall staff in the game.

I answered this elsewhere, but there are only 3 hybrid staffs in the game. Gelmir, alburnaric, and prince of death. While others have scaling in other areas like str, it actually doesn't provide any additional sorcery scaling.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
How much scaling "worth" is the boost to spell types by some staffs?
Do you mean from its scaling or the passive bonuses some apply? For that you'll have to test the damage with one staff vs. another. Just find an enemy near a grace to test it on.

Where does the lazulis glintstone sword place on this list?
Not a staff so nowhere.
@@sigma20xx staff is a required to cast spells.
@@rezaeffendi5809 keep in mind this does chunk 15% of your hp too. Not a bad option for lusats players and I do go over it in the video as well.
@@PlayDohBear Ohhhh so I just have to find the mausoleum with the bell to purchase Renala’s remembrance? That is so cool!
@@ambientedge952 yeah. You don’t need to have the remembrance to duplicate it. These mausoleums have record of all the remembrances you’ve acquired (I didn’t know this until I entered one the first time).
I don’t see the links for the calculator or spreadsheet.
Check in the video description under "Good info here."
So between the prince of death staff and the carian regal staff which one would you say is better???
Soooo I'm thinking of leaving my character maybe at 40 or 45 int because I'm a hybrid of strength/int. That means that my best choice for this is the worst staff in-game? The demi-human queen staff? In fact that's the one I've been using because it has been the best scaling one up to this point. Currently my character is at 38 int. My demo-human staff is at lvl 14 and I upgraded the academy staff up to the same level just to compare the scaling and it was exactly down by 2 points
Choose the most optimal staff for you at the level you want to stop at. You can also use the weapon calculator to get an exact idea as well.
@@PlayDohBear forgot to delete the comment. Hahaha I already checked the calculator and yeah, after 40 int the staff becomes pretty much useless.
Thanks for the answer, thanks for the video and thanks for the link to the calculator, it really helped a lot.
@@Aon_Duine No problem my man!
Digger staff feels like it should be perfect for str/int but it is absolute garbage despite the split scaling
+10 golden order seal and +25 prince of death staff which is better for 80int/80faith stone of gurranq or rock sling?
Stone of Gurranq is a seal based incantation and rock sling is a staff based spell. So there is no better in this case. Seal for Stone, Staff for Rock.
@@PlayDohBear which of the two is good for staggering?
@@charlespoliquit2813 Test on the same enemy and see the results. I've only used rock sling and that shit hits hard. From what I've heard, stone is just as good.

Up to you. Check out the spreadsheet and see which you prefer. My recommendation is Carian regal scepter then transition into whatever staff.

What would you recommend for DEX/INT builds. I am thinking of going with the Carian Glintstone Staff or the Carian Glintblade Staff
None of the staffs scal with Dex and int, so choose the one with the best scaling. Imo Carian regal scepter is the best all arounder.
@@PlayDohBear yea I see that. Thanks :)

So if you're around 20-30 for INT the best to upgrade would be meteorite?
I've been so hesitant and confused on which staff to start dropping stones into and it's getting to be frustrating because I've just focused on swordplay, but want to battle mage it up!
So the meteorite staff cannot be upgraded. I would recommend checking out that calculator in the video description to see which staff would have the best scaling when upgraded at around 20-30 INT. But yes, meteorite staff would be the best if you don't want to upgrade another staff.
It’s weird how you get a staff super early and it’s better than basically all the other staves
I don't think you were supposed to get the Meteorite Staff that early. People just figure stuff out like this haha. The whole getting to Caleid and all that.

Does dex increase sorcery scaling for staff of loss? If so, is it worth to get dex stats for extra damage?
It does not. While it does have scaling in Dex and str, the rating is so low it adds no additional scaling. All staffs that have hybrid saving are marked in purple.
Do you think going from 430 to 448 sorcery scaling on the prince of death staff is worth the 58 stats points needed to go from 80 int/80 faith?
Nah, not unless you're super over leveled
@@PlayDohBear yeah maybe it would be better to hit the hard cap on strength and dex at 80 before leveling int and faith to 99. Thanks for the reply man and good videos. Keep up the good work 👍

Great information! Just a note for future videos. Many people watch videos on their TV's or phones, and the presentation here is awful for both. Small text on a spreadsheet with white values over light green boxes is not great readability.
The spreadsheet is available in the video description. The video is hard to optimize for mobile so that's why I made the spreadsheet publicly available. Works great on mobile so do check it out. Also optimized for Dark mode, so it looks a bit weird without it. Everyone should use dark mode! Save your eyes 👀!

the spell glintstone pebble and shard im kinda digger i use those alot
Oh yeah, those are pretty darn good spells and stay strong even in late game. You will find better spells, but the early spells you get are still one of the bests even in late game.
@@PlayDohBear the fp to dmg ratio is typically better with glint stone pebble than with most of the late game spells, night shard looks pretty, does a bit more dmg and is quicker. But the fp cost out weight the added benefit.
@@Name.......... Def agree. I am a fan of glinstone icecrag with the cold build because for the extra 5 cost in fp vs. pebble (12 vs 7), it does scale really well with all the cold synergies + frostbite. This is valid for around lvl 100-150+
Early game to early mid game, I didn't touch any of the cold spells for sure.
For reference with my current build, pebble hits for ~1100 and icecrag for ~1550. I'll def take the higher damage for a 5fp increase in cost + the slightly smaller range.
Well carian glintstone staff have average scaling because it used for battle mage. This build only need 50-60 int for max magic weapon scaling and mixed with sword spell. Then you need get stat on vigor and endure for better armor and hp, because most of time they at melee range that is better choice
I love me some battle mage and had a lot of fun playing it. Trying to level up now before NG+ to try a few more things out.

How do you upgrade your staffs?
Roundtable crafting guy
This is such an amazing video! Can't believe I just came across it, finally beat the game after 135 hours.
I also recommend using the weapon calculator as this will also inform you. As far as other builds, the faith really just opens up incantations and if you fancy them, you can add it to your kit. Def recommend golden vow.
@@PlayDohBear Got it hadn't seen the calculator, that's super useful! I did the math and at 80 Int you need 58 Faith to get 374 scaling which is 1 above Regal Scepter at 80 Int. Looks like that will be my next goal for NG+. Been using Sacred Sword from the final boss to farm runes with L2, first Faith weapon. Any recommendation for NG+, any good weapons for Int/Faith to make the run different from purely slinging spells? Thanks!
@@lexus134 Im at 80/80 with the Prince of Death staff at the moment and it matches lusat's 430 scaling w.o the FP downside. So nice :D IDK if you've seen my ice queen build video, but give that a shot. You just need the core 3 spells and the Ranni Snow Hat and you can do whatever combo you want for spells. Give Ancient Death Rancor a shot. Other than that, experiment with it all! I'll have my final mage build guide out soon enough.
What about the Albinauric with only arcane?
Really bad scaling. Just like with only int.
I upgraded my prince of death but only reach 311 at +25 ? Not 448
Make sure you go over the video once again. It is a hybrid staff so requires equal points into both INT and FAITH to reach 448 at +25. 99 in INT 99 in faith. The sweet spot is 80 INT and 80 FAITH for 430 Scaling.

Interesting. I wonder if they patched it? Was never an issue prior.
@@PlayDohBear they have patched it apparently. The uchigatana isn’t in the deathtouched catacombs either.
I thought the Staff of Loss said "Boosts invisibility sorcery" not "only cast invisibility sorcery."
Depends on the stage of the game, but definitely better staffs than meteorite when upgraded. That goes for a melee/magic build as well.

Check the video description or my channel. There's a video for it :)
388-460 this scales almost the same across all weapons making no big difference, so annoying
Academy is the best for 60int build
Yep
Briars is pronounced "br-eye-er-s" not "breerawrs" and is just a fancy word for Thorns
@@ronjohnson2760 I agree there would be more variety if the staffs with bonuses did better damage with there respective spells instead of just using 1 staff for all of them
The best is the Prince of Death Staff

Great video and thanks for taking the time to share! One challenge: IMO you are too rough on the demi-human staff. It's a very accessible early game staff and outclasses the starting astrologer staff in every way at sub-40 INT and the +3 to +10 range of upgrades. For folks who did not choose to seek out the meteorite staff early, this one is worth getting from Weeping Peninsula. Obviously you replace it later with one that scales better with higher INT.
Best staff for a base astrologer who doesn't level up.
