- The R80 G/S was the first incarnation of what we now call an entire category of "enduro" motorcycles, unveiled for the Paris-Dakar races of the 1980's, but almost immediately becoming the mount of choice for world adventure riders.
Looking forward from 30 years ago, it might have been hard to imagine a dirt-capable bike might end up with 105 horsepower, ABS brakes, electronic suspension alignment and traction control. Yet despite all of these radical, space-age refinements, the adventurous, end-of-the-world spirit of the original GS lives on in the latest GS bikes.
This film is just a small taste of the adventure awaiting you on the BMW GS. Авто/Мото
Great bikes!!
I have a 91 R/100/GS and absolutely love it still. What makes it for me is the handling, it'll eat up the twistys and spit them out. I could give a shit less about taking it's heavy ass off road, the skinny tires sink in soft ground like the Titanic. It'd be nice if it had twice the hp, better brakes, an extra cog in the trans, but all in all I love it.
Nicely done series! That must be Gaston at :43...
Does someone know which model on 6:30 is?
a bit late but i would say a race modified BMW R51/3
I was led to believe that the engine was tacken from a ditch pump
No they copied the idea from British bike firm Douglas
According to bmw history. The engine was designed as a small industrial portable engine known as m2b15 which was used by a few other motercycle manufacturers, including bmw.
@@Triumph-iv8hi I was watching a documentary about BMW were they admitted they got the idea from Douglas,if I find it again I'll post it here
Ok cheers . Not disputing who invited the boxer engine, just that the first uses of the bmw boxer engine was not for transport. They had a very reliable engine and adapted it for a motorcycle.
Flat battery in the middle of no where ,no kickstarter = a piece of junk ,been there
the new ones are no good no kick start ,too complicated , ,electronics, heavy pieces of junk
