Thanks for your excellent video, my first time to drop by. Question please: A CW friend of mine bought and sold his Xiegu 6100 because he said it wasn't that great for CW operators. I said maybe the 6100 just needed a future firmware update. Have you run into any issues with CW using the 6100? Do you think the recent update addressed any CW problems? Thanks, Michael
R R Michael. I'm not a power CW guy by any means, and when things get busy, my on-air time suffers a bit, but I really only do CW. I haven't even taken the X6100's mic out of the box. Hi hi. Anyway, my firmware is 1.17 as of Oct 23. I worried that this radio would be too complex for me after using an older HB 1b which was bare-bones simple. But so far it has been very user friendly for me. The x6100 is the only new HF radio I've ever had. Perhaps your friend could be more specific about his issues? 73
@@StanFerris Please keep going. I am in CWops learning CW right now. We need more CW operators! Spread the "Good News." This was a good video. You did well!
Great that you are learning as well! I had to study on my own to learn the characters and numbers, etc., but got hooked up with the Long Island CW Club for lessons and help getting on the air.
@@StanFerris, I'm a lifetime member of the LICW club, but I need a little more structure. CWops move quicker and are a little more "whip-cracking" than LICW. I'm not done with them yet - but a year of CW ops will get me going on a great start now. I'm also studying for my Amateur Extra exam. I should have done it right away - It's hard to motivate myself now that I can do almost everything as a General. Good luck. 73, Jason KD9ZHF
Hi Stan, one question I have is how good is the cw filtering? can it go down narrow to filter out adjacent signals? Apart from that it looks an interesting little radio.
I'd be out of my league to answer that question, sorry. :) I have the cw filter set at 500 hz right now, but it goes down to 150 hz I think in cw mode. I have very little experience working pileups or two close signals. I don't mean to try and sell anyone on this rig-- it's unusual to be sure. But I found it to be the most affordable shack-in-a-box with the most features for me, and it seems quite handy for cw which is mostly what I do. Some videos I've seen say it can get overloaded with AM on the front end. I haven't noticed that. My house is in an urban area, and so I have like S5 noise level most of the time. ;)
@@StanFerris, I think that's a good assessment. The Xiegu products are good at many things and at a reasonable price. It's not an Elecraft KX3, but sometimes a regular drive to the grocery store doesn't require a Mercedes-Benz, either!
@@StanFerris, there is no KH1 for me, but I have several Elecraft radios and their antenna whip with the 40-meter coil. I'm not too fond of the KH1 price or the side tone. The sidetone is harsh. It's been improved with the last update, but I'm a musician, and sometimes certain radio sidetones bug me.
Thanks Stan!
Thanks Stan, Enjoyed the Video. Still love your cw-letter training audios. Made a big difference in getting me started. 👍 🙂 TU KZ1J
Very kind words, Jim! Thank you.

Thank you for sharing. Above my pay scale. LOL 👍
Above mine, too! 🤣
Hey Stan - did not realize you were a ham radio operator! Great video! Rick W2RDS
Thanks, Rick. Mostly attempting cw on 40 m and 20 m. Experimenting with QRP 5 and 10 watts.

I was tempted by the new KH1 but decided to get the X6100 for now, but I did buy their AX1 and 40m coil whip antenna system.
