Why not just add a new core position in the police force instead? Give incentives for existing officers and cadets to take courses and classes that specialize in mental health. That way there will eventually be several of these specific officers working in every police district, allowing them to be deployed when the situation arises. That way you don't accidentally send some civilian out there when something unfortunate goes down. The specialized officer will still be able to make spit second decisions while protecting themselves. The unarmed civilian, most likely will not. Of course this would require cities to give more funding to their policing, however, that's not something certain states want these days. And that's just not good for the citizens.

Keep chucking money at a broken system. Not a great idea. This is the exact same thing just not cops. Why is it any different? Cops are civilians with a badges. These people are the same thing. It's just about training so these people are getting training instead. Cops don't want this training anyhow so it's going to people that do want it. So now, it's less a waste of money.

Police have ONE job. Enforce laws. That is it. Anything beyond that is pushing constitutional boundaries that will be met with significant retaliation. The best part... being armed is NOT a solution.

I bet you are one of those clowns that believes your government has a duty to protect you. It doesn't... Beyond that the police chiefs and unions should have never implemented policies where police respond to every call. It bolstered response numbers they used to capture budget dollars. Something that has been rampant for more than more than fifty years.

Well his whole career has been spent in failing government schools as a teacher and Administrator. He knows nothing and has never managed an organization that adds value for its customers. Kind of miss the crooked mayors of Denver’s past who actually could get stuff done.

Your country has been the global incarceration leader ever since Nixon... Then your boi Reagan really poured the fuel to it. So how has that worked out?

You're the only one making that claim. Beside we already know you don't live in Colorado, much less Denver. This is how it works junior. Police enforce the law. Any call that is not involving a legal matter... does not have a LEO dispatched. Pretty simple.
