In 90s there were not many opportunities to watch NHL in russia. So i think people had choosen teams to cheer only by their logos, jerseys and etc.

I remember reading an article that said the Capitals had the 3rd best odds to get the first pick in the '04 draft, and they won. My Blue Jackets originally had the 28th spot, but beat the Blackhawks in the last game of the '04 season, moving them up from 28th to 27th. Had they lost to the Blackhawks, they would've gotten the 1st pick in the draft. That would've created a Winger duo of Rick Nash and Alexander Ovechkin. If only..

I watched Ovechkin's very first regular season nhl game against the Carolina Hurricanes...while the Caps lost he did have two goals and showed brilliant! The Canes won the cup that year!
