Regarding the weather. Depends on which part of New Zealand you live. In winter, sure, you can start off raining, or cloudy, then have it turn sunny, only to have it rain again. However in summer, my experience in the Hawkes Bay, Waikato and Manawatu/Whanganui regions, it tends to be long and hot dry summers. The housing thing is recent, but you're still right about it. I never thought about how expensive things like food were though. I'm living in London at the moment. I don't like the weather here, and preferred the weather back home. Even Wellington in summer has been better. But that's just me. Others may feel differently. I miss boysenberry icecream and feijoas (the food of the gods). The food scene maybe coloured by your experience in France, etc, as I've come across others that think really highly of the food scene in NZ. I suppose it depends on what you're after.

The geography of New Zealand was the most enchanting I have ever witnessed. Traveling by bus from Hamilton to Wellington was a real eye-opener. I swear, every twenty minutes we seemed to enter an entirely new and different ecosystem. The cuisine, the people, the tourist activities - everything is incredibly exciting and welcoming. The greatest gem of all though are the people! I had the most amazing experience noching on green lipped mussels with a group of new friends near the ocean one day. If I could immigrate there myself, I would have done so in a heartbeat. 1000/10 - cannot recommend highly enough!
In Canada we call our country and our people a “mosaic” rather than a “melting pot” because a mosaic allows each person to remain unique and individual, like a single tile in a mosaic, rather than being assimilated and “melted down” to become like everyone else. I think NZ is more of a mosaic too! ❤️🇳🇿🇨🇦
@Maxime Caron Fair enough. I also have lived here since birth. To be fair I haven’t heard it in a while but we were always taught it in school when I was younger. Maybe it depends on what part of Canada we live in? Or maybe it was just the teachers I had?

I've heard that many houses in NZ do not have adequate insulation. Is this a reason for concern? Many people recommend getting heated blankets for the winter but the lack of insulation still results in high electricity bills.
On cold nights we wear extra clothing. We were warned not to rely on central heating by the story of the Swedish man who always went to bed naked. One night he was woken by his smoke alarm: his house was on fire in the middle of winter. He rushed outside to save himself. He was found frozen solid stuck to his snowmobile 9km away, just 3km from his nearest neighbour.🥺
That is true. But in saying that, the current government has introduced a healthy homes standards requirements for all rental homes in NZ, which is being implemented now. It's called the rental warrant of fitness. (Big fine for the landlord from the tenancy tribunal if not done). Just a word of warning though, if you're looking at renting at this stage, it's a very unstable place to be. So think hard about it. As has been mentioned, if you can afford to buy a house here, be prepared with an extra 30,000 to 100,000+ to get your old/new home up to scratch. Obviously, depends on area of country and size of house.

Hello Thank you for the information .I would like to ask how easy is to rent a home in NZ ? Are the estate agencies reliable ? What about the quality of the buildings and in general the houses ?
Sadly I don't really have much good things to say about this... Renting is extremely expensive due to our current housing shortage, rental agencies are not really reliable driving the price up and delivering poor service and the quality of houses in New Zealand is below average due to them being quite old and badly insulated in most places. There are obviously exceptions to this but New Zealand is notoriously facing some massive issues when it comes to housing at the moment :(
You say the housing situation is bad but from what i've seen with the money you earn from jobs you can affors to save up whereas here in spain it's imposible to save up because salaries are so low.

100% , from an American who has been living in NZ for 6 years now, the working life is an odd one. You'll find the workforce isn't overally ideal (which I think ties into your 'taking advantage of people criticism'). I think it's less that they're trying to take advantage of you and more likely that it's just an employee who has no idea what's going on. I've ping ponged around with different jobs (especially during covid) and training for most companies is like none existent. It's the wild west, you just kinda figure shit out. It's country ran by people sort of figuring shit out as they go and you'll find that really quickly when living here. As well as like Hospo industries in a time of like no backpackers is pretty shit - Kiwi's aren't good at hospo. So, just know that if you move here. If you love outdoors and are really good saving money, you'll love it. If you want to do anything after 5pm (pretty much everything closes at 5pm) and kind of expecting a certain caliber of service, this isn't going to be fun for you here - it's very expensive and boring, unless you're outdoorsy.

I have a few questions about New Zealand. One is it true that their are no snakes in the country? Two is it hard to get a permit residency there? Three Does New Zealand even have a military base or job type ? Is it true that right now New Zealand is close off to foreigners because of the pandemic?
1. Yes, no snakes. 2. Check out the NZ Immigration website to find out how to apply for visas to live here. 3. Not sure what you mean. We do have military with various bases. Not sure you could join the military but there are civilian jobs available with them. 4. Yes, our borders are closed to everyone except NZ citizens and permanent residences (unless you’re part of a sports team that we want here, or wanting to shoot a big budget movie....a sore point for a lot of NZers who are having difficulty getting back home due to the fact that you must book a stay in a managed isolation facility for 14 days and the spaces are limited).

pretty bang on witb the pros and cons. The difference between NZ and elsewhere is much less now than what it used to be.. NZ is "catching up" to the rest of the world.... which for many ppl is a bad thing.
Hello very good video! I have a question, dothe jobs payment covers being able to live well in NZ and form a family ? Me and my husband are thinking about migrate from Perú Thks!
It really depends how good of a job you get as life is not cheap and housing is extremely expensive. Entry level jobs are simply not enough to live well.
To the point about "knowing your rights" and being able to stand up for them so as not to be taken advantage of - where might be a good place to become educated about these rights?
Hilarious how he's so apologetic re: cons! So not French of him. YES, finally a non-foodie culture!!! Haven't you heard about online shopping in 2020?!? The worst thing is poor internet & high rent prices!

We are very welcoming but we draw the line of campers traveling in vans not picking up their ablutions on the ground. We are disgusted and horrified that people would leave this behind in our beautiful country.
Makes sense. Most kiwis love their land but some litter a lot! We've seen that too much during COVID where littering was at similar levels but with not international travellers. We all need to do our part! Thanks for caring Jo!
This is a good video but a bit misleading. The healthcare isn't free. It's only free when you have an accident or when you are admitted to hospital. When seeing the dr or having an x ray that isn't because of acc you pay. If you need to see physical therapist or podiatrist or anything of that sort you need to pay. And it's expensive.
I agree that New Zealand is expensive. For one thing there are no illegal immigrants to do the heavy lifting, The farm worker imported to the country have to be paid the minimum wage, $20 per hour. That's in contrast to Europe and the USA where many farm workers are illegal migrants. NZ is too far to travel to penetrate borders. NZ's are not happy to see farm workers explolited. NZ doesn't have easy trading relations. Up to 90% of food produced, fruit, meat and dairy produce is expoited. NZ could in fact feed 10 times it's population. Still, food is expensive and some produce is not grown. Eating grapes could be grown in much of the country but the only economical grapes are for wine. Wine is a profitable export item. Much of NZ businesses, banks, retail and insurance are dominated by Australian companies. NZ did once have a motor vehicle industry but it was abandoned when the government allowed free access to imported second hand vehicles. Japanes cars transfer easily to NZ and today NZ car ownership rates equal the US. Japanese second had cars dominate the roads and the people are happy with their imports. Housing is expensive, as in much of the world. So, NZ is a business, like any other.
A lot of pro’s I do not agree with food from restaurants it is amazing here maybe you did not find it yet and I am also here for 10 years. Also yes groceries are expensive but gas for your car is cheap compare to the Netherlands it cost double the price also tax is lower here 32% in NZ en 52% in the Netherlands. I do not have a car it is fine for me I walk and order groceries. The only nightlife is in Auckland and there are a lot of amazing clubs so I do not agree with you. Clothing is not hard I buy a lot online without any problem. Never had problems with consumer things maybe have been unlucky. Internet in the beginning was very bad with data limits but it came from far I have fibre and it is very fast and I am happy with it. House rental depends were you are living can be cheaper if you life in a small town. Earthquakes are not in Auckland and I am living in Christchurch and had in 1 year just one but it was very small.
Also, a con is that in NZ the gaming industry is terrible, if that's the field you work in. There are terrible education resources for learning how to make games professionally if you choose the uni route, hardly any NZ-based game design companies if any exist at all, and even just playing games you'll probably end up with more than one game from overseas being censored before you own it. You pretty much have to go down the indie developer path down here, and start everything up of your own dexterity. Come to think of it, there aren't many good NZ-based TV shows being creatively produced by NZ as a country. Most of the ones that are good typically don't even follow a standard storytelling format and act more like clip shows and sketch-based TV parodies.
@@NZPocketGuide moving to Christchurch in August, I've been there in 2012 after the big shake, I've been watching your videos to get into NZ again..I'm Brazilian and I lived in Australia and currently in USA, but never forget the strong energy I got from NZ, so now it's time 🤜🤛
From a kiwi good explanation, especially with our night life clubs are rubbish, our drinking culture though definitely don't try to keep up with us unless your from Australia
Thanks for the honest feedback mate. I was comparing New Zealand compared to other international destinations that we visited in the last 2-3 years and still, we have found that the food scene is badly lacking and often very pricey. The good news is that New Zealand has soooooo much more than food to offer that it is not much of a draw back for most tourists ;) Look at those landscapes!!!
Emergency is $360 if you are not PR!!! You had accident and was covered by ACC that is different! If u have stomach pain and going to emergency, brink your wallet.
You're wrong about racism. New Zealand is very racist. Not for nothing do Maori sit at the bottom of every negative social statistic. This isn't an accident, something is going on and that something is racism. The rest of what you say is cool
@@NZPocketGuide it use to be a lovely place..I did my working holiday visa there.. however with the new restrictions and costs of living spiralling out of control. Jacinda has ruined one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Hey Liv, it looks like D Rayner did a fantastic job answering your questions! Even before I got a chance to! How awesome is that!?
Yes we do have snakes so stay in your own country
They are called worms.
Super useful

It really depends how good of a job you get as life is not cheap and housing is extremely expensive. Entry level jobs are simply not enough to live well.

Hilarious how he's so apologetic re: cons! So not French of him.
YES, finally a non-foodie culture!!! Personally, I hated my experience in France & their obsession with food that completely conflicted with my palette.
The weather sounds like home to me; we dress in layers for 4-season-in-a-day! & seems locally we've the same obsession with ecology as Kiwis.
What?!? Haven't you heard about online shopping in 2020?!?
The worst thing is poor internet & high rent prices!
Haha thanks for sharing your opinion, and yes I shop online a lot!
LOL as an American it makes me laugh seeing a French person critique New Zealand's food.... all the food here in the US is hyper-processed, sugary garbage. --I'd do anything to get food as good as New Zealand's here!
Haha it's all about perspective I guess. Apologies for being so insensitive. This is why I led by saying that some of my cons may be pros for others and vice-versa :)

@@sinsinsinat5377 Haha that is a shot of one out of hundreds that we had here in NZ, there are all kinds here. Now on the same note, it depend of which countries as well, compare with France for instance and they are way worse :)
Not true you old bigot can't blame everything on the old camper vans.
Disagree about the food con. There are amazing wineries, cafes, pastry shops up and down the the country. We are way past slapping a hotdog in a bun…
Thanks for sharing your honest opinion! I am glad we only disagree on a single point haha!
Great point Ursula, thanks for sharing!
Wrong its free for nz citizins.
Thanks for your thorough input mate, I really appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing your experience Moira, you rock :)
Lovely ❤️
“If money is not a concern for you…” LOL!!!!
It was more of a "phrasing" than a literal thing...
Thanks for that insight mate! I had no idea :)
Just wanna say..NZ is not so small everybody knows everybody.
That's almost true haha!
