Getting into slipper slope territory. The event is for the pro's and the co-anglers are in place to increase the revenue of the event for league, vendors, and the facility/community. (The PR departments may scream foul but I'd suggest their actions speak so loudly I can't hear a word they're saying🤔). The rules you've discussed these past videos are all well and good but how to be enforced and how to identify the infraction? What's an accident and what's negligence? What about favoritism with new rules, how'd that work with the old "rules"? Not liking FFS is an opinion, not an infraction. What's the difference of a pro tightly paralleling the bank, giving the co angler nothing and parking his butt out in the dead sea while the pro LiveScopes a school or brush pile, etc.? Nothing. The co angler is screwed, tough draw. Can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Another deep topic.
I don’t think tourny anglers realize how beneficial that would be to the sport, id love to see “acting like a professional” become apart of the fishing/tournament culture
Eliminating the 150 rule was among the stupidest things tournament circuits have done. If traveling farther & faster is so desirable then why haven't the winning weights increased since the 150 rule?
The best way to curb fast driving is to limit the horsepower. You can't drive a prius like a Porsche. Limit these boats to 50 hp and most of this would improve for everyone on the lake.
I once fish a tournament as a co angler -water was rough and he didn’t have the sense god gave an amoeba-warned him he was going to fast-anchor bounded out of the boat flew a head of the boat then flew back towards me and hit the boat six inches from me-damn if he didn’t do the same thing once we got the anchor and rope back in the boat-i grabbed his hat off this head and threw it in the lake-he had to stop and turn around to fish out his hat and i told him if he didn’t slow down i would do it again-never fished with him again -later he sunk a boat in rough water
I have a couple pro stories that happened to me. Several years ago in a BASS Southern open event, I drew out a current long time Elite angler for my day one pro. We drove to a cove in the back of a creek. I was being careful to be quiet and mindful of the Pro and I had my back to him, and I was casting to the rear of the boat. I was casting a Carolina rig. The pro quickly said after my first cast, “ You can’t fish there!” Puzzled, I looked at him, and reeled in and then shot off another cast in a different direction. The pro said, “You can’t fish there either!”. I thought the pro was joking around and teasing me. I then said where the hell can I fish? The pro said “ No where. Don’t fish for the next 15-20 minutes until I fish this entire pocket out in all directions.” He then told me there has been a 7-8 pound pre spawn bass seen several times swimming the cove and he wanted to catch her. So reluctantly, I stopped fishing until the pro fished the entire cove. We came back to the cove several times that day, but no big bass was caught. I had a good day of fishing, but I lost all respect for this highly thought of Elite series pro. Another time in a FLW tour event, many years ago, my pro drove to the back of a creek. It was our first stop of the day. It was early spawn tournament. Once the boat came to a stop, I waited for the pro to make the first cast. Then I started casting a chatterbait off the back of the boat. Within a few minutes and less than a dozen casts, I boated two small keepers. Then the pro out of frustration started cussing me and yelling at me for catching his fish. The pro said if he wrote me out a check for $500 would I just sit down and let him fish the rest of the day? I replied no, I was going to fish. Within a few minutes, the tension eased and we enjoyed a day on the water. The pro cashed a real good check. This pro still tournament fishes and I have no kind thoughts of his demeanor.
I fished TBF tournaments as a boater for the past five years (I have a tracker 175) and have been fishing MLF BFLS and Toyota Series as a Co Angler the past two years, hoping to get a bigger boat in the next few years. Really have only had one issue.. Last year, I drew a pro, we were in a creek on the Potomac that was probably about 50 feet wide, there was one boat already in there, we went several hundred yards beyond him. I proceeded to make a cast at a tree, the pro told me I wasn't allowed to fish there because the boat we passed was a buddy of his, and that "he was there first and was going to fish all that." If were close to the other boat, I could understand, but that far away?
@@JohnPascavageFishing that was an unusual situation you were put in. Not sure how to work that out. It is so important to work with the pro to gain harmony in the relationship.
I fished a full tournament circuit in Canada as a co angler, the difference was the pro and co angler shared the weight of the 5 biggest bass no matter who caught them. The pros shared lots of information and where very nice to me. Maybe that would be a good solution.
Have you read the liability waiver? Rock solid unless you have video evidence; otherwise just hearsay. I quit the LBL Div. only b/c of the way (most) boaters run KY Lk.
Randy, I don't tournament fish, but enjoy your stories about them. However, I don't always follow the terminology/references so I'll just ask. What's a co-angler? I've watched several tournament videos and there's anothervoerson in the boat withers pro, but I thought it was an official to make sure rules are adhered to, etc. Does that person get to fish as well?
The main problem is these younger guys have not been taught how I was taught on how to have an imaginary line that u can’t cross from the back of the boat , too many youngsters have not been taught the correct way
Hi Randy I agree about the driving of the boats ! I saw a boat on the right make a left turn in front of 2 boats going ball to the wall. The co-angler would have been the first one hit. Thank god the 2 other boats had skills and smarts ! They made a complaint and nothing happened. Safety for all should be a rule !
Good points. The tournament stuff amazes me it’s like there was no thought whatsoever into the creation of them….and they don’t evolve and make changes seemingly ever
Back in the day I scared the crap out of myself more than once with my 150. So many of these guys think since their boat is rated for 250+ they can run wide open anywhere no matter the conditions
As long as they keep making motors with more horsepower this will never change. Maybe a beginner fisherman can learn from a pro or boater It just means the guy in the front of the boat has a better paying job ! Going back to 100 hp motors would be fine with me it would be a lot safer.
I’ve fished as a coangler and I agree💯 there are absolute boaters who act like total idiots all over the lakes at take, going through shoots and passing other boats and the boat is drifting and bouncing. I’ve already had 2 spine surgeries and it’s no fun going airborne , and there’s really no reason to be reckless on any water.
Randy it's true some I would say bass fisherman are rude and on safe to. They say money will change a man and man said it wouldn't. Man lie all the time it will change you and make you stupid to. Bass fishing is just like any other sport or thing. People become addicted to the high of having or trying to have pushing there selves to being something there not. Everyone of them want to be a professional but their not plus a lot of them need to grow up. It take the tournament director to control everything putting out what he needs for a safe tournament. Plus going through with disqualifying anyone who break the rules. One big thing is the none boater as to open his or her mouth and say something. Being open but real with the pro before getting on the water. The talk should be done at the meeting pairing them up. Plus the none pro should know the rules of the game and his rights. Respect is the key to becoming a Larry Nickson, Rick Club, Hank Parker, Randy Blunk and more. These guys were professional respect won't scare a person's feeling about the sport or pro. In closing that none boater has to be open with the pro with respect because the boat is his but the life is your's💯💯💯💯💯👍🏾
Co angler use to be for education before RUclips handed it out on a silver platter and if you wanted to play with the big kids you fork over the $$$ and find your own fish.
After the remark I got this morning on my comment.... The co angler could explain it face to face why he would need to fish on top of me. DQ or not! I won't put up with it! The investment of the boater compared to the co-angler is comparable to Tesla over a highway worker. It would be such a stink they would have to make a rule. That or anchor in the middle of the lake, and drop a jig in retaliation. It's a good thing I don't compete. That or hope he's a good swimmer. Their investment doesn't give the co full run of the boat. That's my rant and I'm sticking by it.
See, that's the point I tried to make Randy: these complaint videos, are all starting to sound the same. They are way to frequent. Ta!k about fishing and fish behavior.
Randy is an activist. He is a thoughtful and considerate fisherman who wants a better fishing experience for everyone. Personally, I am glad he is here to call attention to dangerous, unsavory, and unsustainable tournament practices. Thank you Randy.
"To know the true character of a man, fish with him". Sadly, to many men don't have a dollars worth of character these days.

@@SammysBaits The limit is currently 250. If there was no limit anglers would use higher HP motors. Mercury has outboards up to 600 HP currently.
