Dear Bhante, I just found your channel and have been watching your videos, but I"m not hearing anything about Pamojja (Joy) and the 7 factors of awakening, which are the jhanas factors, like piti and sukha. The suttas say, like in the Suda sutta, one should attain tranquility and bliss from satipatthana. The formula seems to be Pamojja (Joy) triggering Rapture (Piti) which triggers Passadhi (Traquility) which triggers Sukha. How does your method lead to Pamojja?
e.g. ""Being joyful (Pamojja), rapture (Piti) springs up. When the mind is full of rapture, the body becomes tranquil (Passadhi). When the body is tranquil, they feel bliss (Sukha). And when blissful, the mind becomes concentrated (Samadhi)."

Very profound. Can I understand in this manner. In daily life, puthujjana depend on sensual pleasure and speech as a basis for existence. They cling unto, take them up for Bhava. In the first Jhana, they are given up. Existence is sustained by vitakka, vicara, piti and sukkha.
In second Jhana, only piti and sukkha are necessary for sustenance.
In third Jhana, only sukkha is needed.
In fourth Jhana, only the form.
In formless, only the awareness of space, consciousness, no-thingness, neither perception nor non-perception.
In cessation of feeling and perception, only asava is known.
In cessation of ignorance, asava ceased.

You can't practice jhana in such setting. Even lay Noble disciples back in the Buddha's time couldn't because, as the Buddha said, they still live with their wives and are not withdrawn from sensuality.
Focus instead of developing absolutely impeccable virtue and mindfulness. Reading the Suttas and understanding the Dhamma until the Right view is achieved.

@@HillsideHermitage so the point is to live with family and wife while cultivating right view which is synonymous with jhana? Jhana is dropping wrong view ?

I’m always so confused at why Monks look so bored all the time. I didn’t think the Buddha taught to renunciate joy and laughter?!?!? Monks are always so serious and disinterested. I would love to dedicate my life to the path of enlightenment/monk hood but I need music, dancing and laughter to be a part of it. I couldn’t renounce that part of my life.

With all the due respect, anyone wanting to learn anything about meditation (including jhanas) should not listen to this. There is not a single word in this video that actually matches with any of the suttas or the teachings of the experienced meditation teachers.

@@VeritableVagabond if she understood the dhamma or the teacher or jhana she wouldnt of said that. Hes beyond suffering from sense desire he lives secluded and there's not a trace of sensuality in his being it's as clear as day. Even if you don't have full understanding of what sotapanna is just read the Buddha explanation of jhana quite secluded from sensuality secluded from unwholsome mind states. He is that explanation not momentarily but existential entirely so any person that's with a shred of good sense can see he must know what hes talking about
