Why is it bad for people to wear durags... but white people invented jeans and no one has a problem with people of all kinds of races wearing that? It doesn't even make sense if you try to say "well white people were oppressors so they can't wear clothing from those groups of people" because Yunjin isn't white, so if you just wanna gatekeep white people ok but like... how does this make sense at all? People try to say dreadlocks are a culturally black thing that others can't do, but ignore that it was a Scandinavian viking tradition at one point too. Idk man, maybe somebody smarter can explain it to me but the whole idea of cultural appropriation seems kind if silly...? Good style is good style, and it's an undeniable truth that black hip hop culture has had a massive impact on modern fashion, as well as many other good things. I say let Yunjin wear what she wants?
Um good points but I am afriacan. African braids and the braids the vikings used to wear are not the same not even close. Myself used to be mocked for having african hairstyles. It was dirty and balck to ppl. Unless ppl wanted to mock ir do a caricature of a black person. And now all of a sudden it's trendy. But not on black ppl tho. Oh no. But when other races do it, or speak in a stereotypically black accent, or do black dances or anything from black culture. And that's ok. It's interesting how kpop a.d other industries have profited off of black culture so much but rarely talk about it. When I was new to kpop I could see it ans immediately I dug and did my research. The issue at hand is that black ppl have been discriminates against for centuries and every time ppl take things from our culture and try to erase us saying oh well it not black. It's just a song, its just clothes ,it's just language...and leave us in the dust. If I do something that's from assin cultures it's undeniable. But it's funny the mental gymnastics ppl want to do whatever it comes to things like balck culture. If u see an asain rapper with dreads and a dragon speaking aave do u really really thi k he went and researched Scandinavian ancient dreads OR do you think thay because he is a rapper which is largely a black industry,he saw black rappers hair and wanted to do the same? Ppl aren't doing dreads or african hairstyles because of old White ppl hairstyles. They do ut because they see african Americans do it and popularize it. I ha e no problem with it. But u see this is a complex issue where ppl do not see the lime between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation
@@lisa.222 Thanks for your comment! Yeah I see where you're coming from, and it's very true that so much of our modern culture is so deeply influence by black culture. Because White people colonise the entire world and forced their culture everywhere which is why you can't compare that to this. Then the braids Black people wear are completely different from the ones the vikings used to wear. Then the braids non Black people wear all the times now are not Viking braids and you know that. It's all Black braids to mimic Black people because Black people make Black culture popular and trendy. That’s exactly what my friend says all the time. She’s only really only into BTS and Blackpink (and I few other older groups) but she always says how happy she gets when she sees idols appreciating things from her cultures (she’s black and Hispanic)
Even if she wore it it’s FINE
No it's not fine, be quiet.

What? Idgaf. Its not cultural appropriation
I've seen many people (most of them were black btw) say that is isn't a durag but I mean I'm not black so I can't really say much about it. Either way, the idols don't pick what they're gonna wear so if anything blame the stylist not her
Those People who say "I'm Black and it's not..._ behind hidden accounts are mot likely not Black and if a minority of them are, they are clueless because it is a durag. Then the "idols don't pick what they wear" excuse is BS.
@@lawtraf8008 that doesn’t make sense because it’s not a durag. If a romper looked like a dress we still wouldn’t call it a dress because it doesn’t have the characteristics to be one and the same goes for the silk scarf. And you can’t say that these people making these comments aren’t black because you don’t have proof and saying that even if they are, they’re clueless. Girl stop because I asked my black friends about this and they don’t see it as cultural appropriation but see it as cultural appreciation. They see it as someone appreciating something that is seen as part of their culture and there’s nothing wrong with that because if everyone is getting on the high Horse and trying to find something wrong with anything, we don’t have a functioning society. We should be able to appreciate someone’s culture without people getting mad because when I see my Asian or black friends wearing French brains or eating Pierogies I don’t get mad because they’re appreciating my culture and that’s a beautiful thing.
I dont see how yunjin’s the one getting in trouble when she didnt even choose what she wears, if ur gonna go after someone go after the stylist not her

what's even a cultural appropriation, like istead of getting mad that a specific style is worn by someone else, we should be happy about it, cause someone's culture is getting recognized, also most of the ppl that get mad aren't even black, like, seriously, get a life
Cultures are to share for the world. If she was being mean to the culture, then it is wrong, but she did not so the hate is unnecessary and they should learn to distinguish someone being mean to a culture, from just using something from a culture that isn't yoursbut not being rude about it.
1) a durag isn’t cultural appropriation, it’s literally a way to protect your hair style (hence the name hair “du” rag)

Like i genuinely cannot fathom why people make an issue out of unnecessary things. Unless they're making fun of a culture, purposefully messing with it with intentions to mock, i don't see the problem.
its just a head scarf, it’s nothing serious😭 & non black people would always be so offended when they see idols with durags saying “that’s offensive to black people😡” babes no we dont care about that 😭😭👎
It's just an accessory duh what😂
as a black woman, that doesn't even look like a durag and even if it was, its not that serious, its not like she was styled with the purpose of mocking our culture
Jazz music led to Rock led to Pop and so on, and so much of our fashion and dance and slang originated in black communities. So I get that it would be hard to be unappreciated. I'm really glad we have things like hip-hop music and style, which Le Sserafim uses a lot, and impressed by where it came from. Our culture has been very blessed.
I hope I didn't come off as insensitive, thank you for your thoughtful reply.

Finally we won't allow racists who do do not give a damn about Black people use Black culture for profit. That's what cultural appropriation is. Most of these idols and Koreans in general are very racist specially to Black people.
She looking more like a stylist pirate tbh

imo it's just cringe. I don't think it's an affront to the black community or anything it's just cringey as shit when kpop idols try to pull of that aesthetic. Not even that they can't it's just that they have no proximity to it, so why even indulge in that.

To me it looks like a durag, sometimes i feel like kpop plays this game of "how far can we immatate things before we ge called out." Which is annoying.
But i will say, i feel like if kpop had or has done a better job at being respectful to black Americans and out cultures, there wouldn't be so much push back over things like this, but because of kpops very rocky history with black american culture thats why things like this are so sensitive to some black american fans.
I say black american specifically cause, remember, they're trying to immatate black american culture specifically.
Now, dispite it looking like a durag, i personally am not upset by this, i mean its a little unsettling cause i know a large majority or idols, companies, and fans dont really respect black american fans and black american culture, but im also tired of repeating myself to people who wont listen to me as a black american, instead yall wanna invalidate our feelings on things like this. But i do see why and understand why a lot of black fans would or are upset by this. But just cause im not offended or some black fans say "im black and im not offended." Doesnt mean we can just ignore those who are hurt and are offended.

Black seriously?
A fricken scarf is a dew rag for God's sake. Man I'm white as Casper the ghost and I wear a dew rag, wide bandana, tie back bandana, and a straight up bandana, because I'm a sweaty bastard. Btw the reason why many say only black people should wear durags is because we constantly get called unprofessional or people look at us weird but when it’s like a someone of the opposite race wearing it no one at all talks down on them because of it also because wearing durags is slowly becoming a trend in K-pop when it’s culture
