Hey Nicolai Guys Here, just want to let you know starting Nov. 10 I'll be posting every Saturday. So weekly videos, for real this time lol. Also if you came from my Japan video welcome aboard! I hope i don't disappoint you! But anyways, thank you as always for your constant support lads! Also I'm sure this comment section will be very nice :)
@@coredetta I couldn’t play LOL that well because Jesus Christ it’s so much to take in. That’s why I just prefer straightforward games like Valorant or ow
"LoL isn't popular among girls because it's not cute" My sister introduced me to LoL. edit: for everyone saying my sister shouldn't have shown me LoL, I 100% agree it has been a curse
I saw my boyfriend play LoL sometimes and it looked fun so I downloaded it and he (and his friend who play LoL aswell) teached me how to play. Still learning😊
For the Geguri part, there's kind of some context missing. For starters, Geguri (and the other Korean players) joined the team midway through the season. They were already winless even before the Koreans got there. By season two, they actually turned things around (although Geguri doesn't get a lot of play time now). Unlike some of the other all female pro teams, Geguri is actually really good at the game. She isn't in OWL just cause she's a girl. She was a perennial top 100 player in ranked who had reached top 10 in Asia leaderboards (the hardest leaderboard) many times. She's legit.
kudos to you for saying this. At the early stage of her career, she even got accused of cheating because of how good she was and proved everyone wrong by playing matches in a live studio. I don't know what team she will join since she left shanghai dragons but I hope the best for the rest of her career
@@geonhuckyoon726 To be honest, every time I heard the pro player being accused of cheating because they are too good, it's not the blame, it's the compliment.
The girl on the left side of thumbnail (Yiying Han韩懿莹) was actually a quite successful professional player. 2007-2012 in warcraft 3 , 2010-2013 in starcraft 2, got a few international trophies and some remarkable national matches. then she became a LOL streamer, and now a pubg streamer
Thats great, but RTS and MobA is not the same thing. It sounds harsh when people list the reasons why there are no females in pro League but I don't think many people mean to be... Every single guy I know gets fucking ecstatic when they come across an actual girl who plays well, hell half the time they almost fall in love with them so I dont but the whole "boys club" narrative pushed by the retarded feminists and sjws. There is bound to be a fringe minority of guys who are like that but a girl who has a genuine passion for the same game they like is the wettest of dreams for most male gamers, should she also happen to be skilled it would probably just explode their brains from excessive dopamine hits.
@@F1rstWorldNomaDhe moba genre was pretty much born from the RTS genre and they have a ton of similarities. Dota is a prime example of this, but I do agree League is a moba that has strayed the farthest from an RTS game. Dota and League were both basically modified versions of an RTS, so they literally started out as RTSs.
Whoever can play at a professional level in a game like StarCraft 2 or Warcraft 3 can also be at least Challenger in League. Let Alone StarCraft 2 one of the most mechanical intense games. You need to understand that whoever is able to master one game and has enough dedication and willpower will succeed in other games too.
I remember there was a study done on female vs male chess players, which was trying to figure out why there aren't more pro female chess players (there are some, but it is largely male dominated). The study placed female chess players against male chess players, but didn't tell them that they were playing against men. When the female players were told they were playing against a man, they lost more. When the female players were told they were playing against a woman, they won more. So what does this say about women in these areas, like chess and esports? Possibly women are socialized to *feel* less capable than men, and to *feel* that men are inherently better. To feel a lack of confidence when their opponent is a man, and competitive when against a woman.
Just to add if my sister plays as her real female name online people are generally disrespectful & blame loosing on her, any weakness is because she is a girl, where as their loss is just 'bad luck' or even blame other team members but they always see girls as the weak link no matter what really happened. She stopped wearing her headset in COD because literally all match she would get sexual stuff said to her & sworn at, by her own team! Each rematch people would complain if she was places in their team despite usually being in the top 3 ranked players, just due to her being female. When she uses her username which sounds male she never gets these problems, sure she will get the occasional 'go fuck your mom' joke but nothing near the level of abuse she would get if she was a girl. This video completely missed family, social, peer & societal pressure.
it could just be that less women play games- if only the top percentage of players are pro and a low percentage of females actually play the game then you can mathematically calculate exactly why there arent as many pro female players.
Females almost certainly play less competitive games. Estimates I've seen for Shooters and Mobas put women between 5-10% Where as women make up a surprising percentage of (high fantasy) MMO players and Japanese RPGs. Most estimates put the female percentage for these games between 30-50%.
Also some would quit after someone attack them verbally or the ENTIRE team would stop supporting them. I thank my username always get mixed with a male name. But they will always be those stupids who would stupidly hit on you (it migth sounds as joke but i remember a friend with a very sweet voice get an almost marriage proposal) or throw shit on you
Then there is the fact that gamer girls make a lot more money by just being streamers and it's said to be way less stressful. So a bit easier job and way more money? I'd take that.
Aatu Korja And if females continue to think like that then they shouldn’t be whining about the lack of “female representation” in professional gaming. If you don’t put in the effort, you don’t deserve the reward and that goes both ways. The hypocrisy is so astounding, and this is coming from a girl.
You know alot of women who even try to make it pro will get flammed 100x more than men cause of their gender u know? Mainly BECAUSE they are a girl they'll be looked more under a microscope aka more stress
Memento Mori « women are underperformers in everything » « don’t take away from us the only thing we have » great job at refuting her point by being a whiny, sexist asshole
Let's just remember that most female players who try to use their "high rank" as proof they're good at the game, theyre none other carried by, you guessed it, men. That goes for most competitive games. In overwatch 98% of females in top 500 NA mained mercy. Which in retrospect is hardly Gameplay at all... If female players want to be taken seriously then they have to play seriously
1:12 "so, why is there no females in esports?" *vsauce music starts* *michael enters the room* "but what even are females? to answer that question we first turn the sun into a black hole."
I'm a female jungle main but tbh I think one of the reasons there are very few female challengers is that the time commitment requires a very dedicated, almost anti-social, personality which is less common in females.
H2K went 2-16 in the EU LCS summer split which is one of the biggest losing streaks in league of legends history (or just EU LCS history, not sure) and Origen also lost like a shit ton of games in 2017 spring but it was a bo3 format instead of a bo1 format but i doubt they won many games and i think they lost every single series
Not really... The rest of their team didn't speak korean, so they wouldn't speak korean during games anyway... It was just because china is commies. I guess they didn't have any state agents who speak korean available at that time.
@@michalvalta5231 can't they all just speak in English then? But if they really can't then there's no helping it but just make separate groups during fights like 3 players head to ambush while the other 3 plan on what to do
Michal Valta actually it’s most likely because China usually cannot broadcast Korean on Television due to the Hallyu Ban. If the Korean members spoke Korean then they wouldn’t be able to air any of the footage in China on public broadcasting
I feel like main reason of women not being in Pro League is because: First - majority of playerbase are still men like i would say around 60% or more of any game Second - in those % you need to think how many of those people are in those small percentage of ranks are girls if they are already a minority Third - if you arent good enough compared to people from all around diamond to high challenger even if you qualify > you wont get into the League. And as a girl I can say that even if a woman would try to get into League and put her out there for a team there are still more players who are better than her and majority of them would be guys who spend more time on games. I dont think its okay to make only female teams - its pathetic. If someone is worthy to join a team they will get in no matter if they are female or male - your skill matters not your genitalia wtf.
as a girl i agree, but i have to say that "female distraction" thing is a deep issue. that's why women are kept at home and didn't allowed to work mostly. "no women on board" they say [they believed it was missfortune ;) ]. the reason was just keeping the sailors not distracted.
@@TheChocoSama well we didnt see any good pro female players to back that up. So far its been %90 skill issue and had nothing to do with distraction. But I kinda doubt it, pro players are probably resillient enough to not get distracted by a girl, unless the girl just creates drama for attention which is possible too.
@@strider8662 what i have said was about historical stuff, an extra info. but "no girls to protect the team chemistry " stuff is in the video too... anyway, i agree that if a girl was that dedicated and successful that would not be an issue. girls used to don't play pc games very often, but i think this is changing and maybe we will see girls in e sports more often
@@TheChocoSama I really hope that changes, I mean I played alot of MMOs and there is lots of girls playing there. I feel like the issue is that girls never take games seriously as guys do, I have seen tons of girl LoL players but all of them were supports and even then they werent nowhere near passionate about it, it was just a small activity that they would do with their friends which is fine too.
@@GoldenBoyXCM how? If you don't have the motivation, you certainly won't do it. My family is full of gamers and lemme tell ya, the females in our family are the hardcore ones. Mom plays Street Fighter with dad, my cousins (one of which is a female) stays up late playing Crossfire and flames everyone in chat, my aunts spends hours in Dragon Nest to grind XP and fights in duels, grandma would often tell me that shooter games are fun to play. Yes, this sounds extremely far-fetched but, it's the truth. One won't simply do something without motivation or dedication. Even people working in companies won't just work without a motive. A simple motive like "I need money" is already a motivation for them.
Tbh I don't think it's anything to do with that, he'd previously discredited that all female team as essentially a promotional stunt so actually comparing their game time is questionable, if as he said it wasn't actually serious all female team
@@ExposingOreo still, no female could ever get o faker level, not to mention faker there are tons of male players in lol that will never be outdone by female players, boys being labaled as playboys is not without evidence
Sneaky's almost guaranteed to be a girl for Season 9, so assuming they don't get permabenched over this fact, the title will become invalid...good vid though. XD
You want to promote female players in esports? Include them in normal teams, don't make ALL female teams, that just gets you laughed out of the public eye. And don't simply include females in your team for the sake of it, get someone reaaaally good.
NotHelix it’s less about the player reaction and more a case of sponsor reactions. While some teams are sponsored to boost brand recognition, with big names like Samsung, this all girl team was created almost solely for that goal. Often sponsors will inevitably choose a girl with the best “story” to the detriment of the person. with men this is usually based around name recognition and prior achievements. Unfortunately women are less interested in league so finding one takes more time and so most team organizers just give up and go with the prettiest face. Similarly going pro is a big risk. It is almost a full time job with extra pressure around every tournament. This leads to certain personalities risking everything. Unfortunately with women this personality has better options with a higher chance of success. Music is the clearest, but with STEM being pushed, and reporting and acting being so popular esports have less appeal to these people.
there was one girl on a big team to pay on the esports but guess what. She was harrassed and verbal abused for several male players just bc she was a girl
what's weird is that one of the better starcraft players is scarlet, a canadian female player. solo games like starcraft seem to have more pro females compared to the team based games
i've had an awful lot of traumatic experiences while playing with guys i know from my school and even from other schools. which made me stopped playing with them and just go play w bunch of strangers that i tried to motivate and somewhat gave advices when it was evident they're still newbies or was tilting. i'm grateful to have two guy friends who never made fun of me but instead helped me how to improve. just got back to LoL again this quarantine after years of not playing and i totally missed having fun in online games.
@Destynation Z ah totally forgot abt this comment but thank you for leaving a reply! hope everything's alright w your friend and always take care of yourself
@@lordbooben722 actually they shouldn't even be allowed to play in competition because riot rules are given that only diamond 3 players and higher are allowed to play in high professional leagues and competition like lcs. And their supp was only like platinum, but it obviously was just a PR Gag a really bad one
How to win a over watch competition Hire players where no one can literally talk to each other due to language barriers, and hope they win off pure micro. Sounds like a good idea.
@@isabellyo.7246 no they do, just as boy do, all he said was that boys are more likely to give that up and focus/ become obsessed with certain things like gaming more.
"Girls are only support players!" Kinda hate that I play into the stereotype as a female support main, but tell that to my face when I run at you as a 5/2/20 Leona and solo the enemy adc.
Lmfaaoo as a girl who wants to play professional LoL my heart broke a little when he said teams have a rule that only boys can play professionally before he said it was a joke💀💀🤣
In Rocket League, there's a female pro player who captains her team and they're in the RLCS (Equivalent of LCS) and while she's not a top player, she's pretty damn good and is the reason her team is so good
Here's some data: There are several women in league who place above Remi, including YeoChoiMi was placed above Huni in challenger in 2017, Baby Hyun, Forget Me Not, LOL Bunny, and quite a few that place just below, such as Yeji Jeong. They also created another all female team I don't believe you mentioned. In Esports in general: Sasha Hostyn is claimed to be the most successful woman in esports history, plays Starcraft II, and has earned over $200,000 in tournaments She's ranked #22 currently in Starcraft; Zainab Turkie plays CS:GO along with Julia Kiran, Christine Chi (who plays for CLG Red) and Stephanie Harvey (who has won multiple world championships). Honestly, just go to esportearnings (.) com and you can sort by female players, by specific games, earnings.
remi shouldn't even count it takes away from real women's achievements the opl had a female player in multiple splits one split was before remi as well
If you a guys, just wow. If you a girl, why the hell doesn't Remi not count. Is not how you see her but how she see herself. If she see herself as a girl, she is a girl.
@@rhiroyonve7517 It seems like you're angry over me just saying names into a youtube comment. My comment was devoid of opinion, do what you will with the info.
"Girls don't play just support that's just a stereotype!" Then this, come on ladies you make it seem like it's soo bad that girls play support. I mean come on men can't support each other. I'm joking ofc
Honestly almost all girls I know that plays LoL exclusively play support. Most of them just get boosted to plat/diamond by simps that never even had chance with them.
Geguri was also signed fairly late into the season. Around Part 3 if I recall correctly. Her games actually had the closest they got to winning, and she was one of the only players kept on in a massive team cut/switch around for OWL Season 2. She's one of the best off tanks in the world, and has let her skill speak much higher than her gender before, even beating another player who claimed she was hacking.
It's true. Most of the people playing league are male, so it'll be hard to find female pro players on the same level. Also most girls are casual players. Though there are others out there. Personally, I'm female and a very competitive player who wants to reach high elo. I play a lot of assassins and I'm sure there are other females out there like me. But mostly girls interests just lay elsewhere.
Most do not have the IQ,they do not have the work ethic. Even in the rare case that they do. They will not have the emotional discipline, required to deal with the stress and responsibility being a professenl entails. Furthermore. If i was a team recruiter or owner, even if a women had the skills and IQ,I would not take the monetary ,Social or even LEGAL risk, that putting a modern women among men would bring. Metoo generation liberal leaning women. Are very VERY bad for business
I was going to mention Geguri, but I'm glad you did. I only recently got into league, but I can tell you I've been on Overwatch since the start (even though I've fallen off now but let's not talk about that). Geguri is actually one of the best Zarya's I've seen in the game, but's that's really all she plays. Basically what I'm saying is they should've put her into the chinese feeder team before Dragons so she could get used to that level of play with other heroes. Another factor in Shanghai's 0-40 streak was just the fact that China decided to not pull from the best players they had. For some reason the Chinese government recruited a bunch of their "B listers" so to speak, instead of players like Eileen, Vanessa, or RIVEN, who would've dominated owl at the time
I'm a girl,I started playing it because of the quarantine and I kinda ended up "maining" Warwick and Nasus😂😂😂 but I'm having server issues and it pisses me of 😭😂
because pro gaming is a sphere which requires a combination of huge amounts of free time, intelligence and dedication which all together can only be found in a small amount of people already no matter the gender. because a girl is less likely to be interested in games or take them seriously purely because it’s a male oriented community (and can often be hostile or downright predatory towards you if you are female) and your interests aren’t as likely to be shared among your peers as if it were if you were a boy + girls (and minorities in general) are put under more societal pressure and have more real life responsibilities, so they aren’t as usually socially inept or detached as boys often are, which is a quality you probably need to have if you are willing to put thousands of hours into “getting gut”- because reality check. esports are legitimately so detached from life and someone with willpower and wits would probably prefer to actually contribute to society in a meaningful way rather than play video games for others peoples entertainment. because leagues creme de la creme is less than a percent of its player base. now look at those numbers compared to humanity as a whole and an already small chance of a smart girl with no social life picking up a video game and sticking with it. simple math.
The FGC and specifically the 3D fighter scenes have quite a lot of high level competition from females with Tanukana, Yuyu, Cuddlecore, Kayane, and more competing at incredibly high levels in Tekken and Soul Calibur. The argument of cuteness seems to hold some weight given all the aforementioned main characters such as Xianghua, Ling, Asuka, and, well, cute female characters in general. As for a representation of skill, Kayane is arguably the best Xianghua player in Soul Calibur. Cuddlecore’s taken games from top 3 US players. Yuyu’s has had arguably the best Ling on the planet at certain points in time, and is still competing at a high level after taking a break to have children. The time argument is also pretty spot on, with Tanukana and a couple others saying they’ve foregone work, relationships, and other priorities just to get better at the game. I think the fact fighters are such social scenes (given most legacy players learned at arcades or in person at tournaments vs playing online) has allowed for higher female representation at the highest level because it’s a lot easier to shittalk female players for nothing more than the fact they are female over voice than in person. Not that shittalking should ever be conducive to someone leaving a scene, but at the lowest entry level it can definitely hurt.
If you watch a few interviews with these players, you start to get the sense that maybe female players at the top level are uncommon because a lot of them don't actually want the pro gamer life, as I imagine many male players don't actually want the pro life. The amount of time dedicated to practicing and mastering competitive games are on the level of obsession as master chefs, or crazed artists who don't allow time for breaks or anything else in their lives. Totally commendable, but also completely understandable why only a few can get into that spot on the top and stay sane.
I think what they meant by saying "they (females) have to work twice as hard" is how they are treated. Regardless of how accepting any place may be, people still carry with them a bias towards women. So perhaps it wasn't directly talking about having to get twice as many wins. Rather, it may be talking about how they must endure more from the audience, coordinators, promoters, rival teams in terms of not being taken seriously or on equal levels. Probably isn't documented because it's such an everyday occurrence to them that they just endure it. The reason I assume this is because it's appears in so many work environments where the bosses and supervisors are majority male so they rule the work culture.
In Lol, Sc2 and any other game aswell you dont need to tell anyone you are a women. You can just stay silent in voice chat and use the chat if you want. Noone in chat can tell if you are a girl. That way you can play soloq or whatever ranked mode there is to get to the highest rank. Then you can get into tryouts or directly into a team. If you got into the highest rank without anyone knowing you are a women how can anyone say you dont deserve it or think you would need to work harder then others? In Starcraft you can even get boosted into the highest rank as its a solo game. Then you still pull big numbers in the highest rank or stay there for a period of time. The longer you stay there the more accepting people get, because at the highest skill levels people acknowledge skill. Doesnt matter if you are black, white, disabled, male or female. Most pro players arent really the most beautiful or fit persons but they are there for their skill. Thats the thing that counts. ps. there are also players who arent as gifted and have to work alot harder to get to the same level as others and some have to redeem themselfs for past actions. For example Jensen or Caps. There are enough players who have and had to overcome bias by others and made it to the top.
@@HexeBF4 I'm not even sure where to begin. Let's just take your PS: Players being bad and then redeeming tehmselves is completely different from women in gaming, I don't quite see how you are seemingly trying to compare that. If Jensen is bad, there will be a million "Jensen sucks" posts. Why does he suck? He apparently just sucks, doesn't need any further explanation. If a girl is bad, there will be a million posts saying "Well duh, she's a girl so she sucks". It ALWAYS gets reduced to that by a sizable amount of people, that's the whole issue. It's NOT just about skill, I really don't know what world you are living in but the more you are in the limelight, the more it will devolve into anything but skill and pointless "critique" of looks and whatnot. The reason I think it's worse with women is that there really isn't anything they can do to "redeem themselves", as you say. Being blamed for literally what you are (in this case a woman) is a very different thing than being blamed for skill, that should be obvious.
@@Sniperfuchs With that i wanted to show that others had to overcome bias against them and more pressure then average aswell. Which was said to be extremly hard cause for a women it would be that way until she proofs herself. The way to proof it is the same for them all: be good. If you are in the lcs as a girl and play bad you may get those comments but if you dont have the confidence and self trust to know they are wrong and then get the motivation to show them, be better and silence them all you shouldnt be there in the first place. Its literally the 50 best players out of a million players for NA (not even talking about imports). If you got this far and still think you are bad cause you are a girl when in a slumb you shouldnt be there period. When your results and skill is good people going to like you. An example for that is scarlett. Sure, she is trans so some say shes still a man and therefor so good but her as a western player beating koreans made her skill known and proofed it. There are always people who try to talk down your skill, happens to me, happens to pros. If you cant deal with criticism you wont get into the highest leagues or tournaments, cause you would never get this far.
As a female on-and-off League player(though recently getting more into it), I must say that, it is one of the best F2P games I've ever played. Character design is on point and offers characters (and skins) of different themes, designs, backstories e.t.c. I got into League for the characters, I stayed for the friends, but overall I must say that learning to love League depends on the individual. I don't play much ranked because people get toxic(understandably so), and if you're one of the players who does their absolute best and does it well, dies once, gets called a feeder after one death from a gank, it can be very off putting. Especially playing ADC is stressful because it's very hard for me to take risks. I'm someone who plays carefully and responsibly to avoid getting flamed for towerdiving for a kill, and I found I just don't do best in judging the situation (I love RTS so I'm not new to it btw). I've recently turned to playing supports because there is less strain and mistakes to be made if they're not getting kills, so I understand why the girls in the vid played supports. It is not as demanding and people don't spam you with pings if you back away from an unfair fight. When my boyfriend or male friends play, they have a different way of thinking than I do. To them it's, how many can I kill before I die, whereas to me it's what do I do to help but not risk dying. I've come across some brutally good female players but I for one find it very hard to play aggressive and careful, for me it's only one or the other. I find it hard to switch between those during a fight so I just don't excel in League as much as players who have a far more brash nature. I'm turning to play Supports before I get back into ranked. Blitz was the only game mode I enjoyed ADCs in and that's gone for now so welp.
LOL. I love how you do not specifically talk about the fact that Geguri was forced to film herself playing because everybody in the community treated her like a "liar" (or said that a boy was playing behind the screen). Indeed, women are still not well treated in video games. And it's a real fact, dude. So do not avoid that fact. Indeed, if there is a very very small percentage of women in video games, that reduces the chances of them being pro. But add the fact they are treated like shit... yeah, that reduces MORE the chances. Period. Except that, I agree with your video and I'm totally AGAINST the femal teams only for promotion. It ruins the image of the female gamers.
www.gameskinny.com/hzi5j/league-of-legends-team-siren-disbands-valuable-lessons-learned Read that, the team sucked and didn't stay for very long at all.
Something I think also contributes to the lack of female pro players is parental approval. Many players in pro gaming have had to prove their profession to their parents and Doublelift is a more extreme example where he left his parents home to pursue his career. In addition, gaming is seen as a male sport. Look at the things they advertise to gamers and how they advertise them. On twitch everyone's seen them pushing pizza rolls and energy drinks, products consumed mostly by young men. Speaking of twitch, it's not exactly friendly to women. If there's an event going on twitch chat spams grill if there's a woman on screen unless they speak in which case they spam HotPokket(the emote). Anyway I'm drunk.
Twitch is too friendly to women. Women get away with blatantly breaking the rules on their titty streams but are never banned for it because it brings in views and money. So a few people spam 'grill', that's not exactly offensive.
@Adûnâi Pretty much every study done by neuroscientists have noted pretty minimal differences in brain structure between men and women, but there's a pretty hefty skewing towards men being able to do more radical shit with parental approval, particularly in conservative countries
I am a girl and I get a lot of weird looks for playing League. I think the main reason for this are e-girls and it annoys me, because I play pretty well. I'm no pro, but I think I'm ok at the game. I play almost all the roles and never camplain if I get support. I try not to be rude or toxic and always be kind. And yet when male players finds out I'm a girl, they start viewing things in a different way. I either become their crush or they start explaining everything. I often lie that I'm a boy and since my voice is deep they believe me most of the times...
Pleasantly surprised that this video handled the topic much more maturely than any other ive seen exploring the same topic. All the others kinda talk down on female players and basically boil down to "girls arn't good at video games lololol". I really do think the main reason there are no female players is because of the enormous pool of like atleast 80% male players. With so many more males playing, it makes sense that the massive male player base will have a much higher chance of producing the top players which go on to play in worlds. Why is the female base so low? Its not because "hurr durr females biologically prefer non-competitive games or play support because they're soft and caring hurrr" it's because of gender stereotype. Females are straight up discouraged from getting into gaming, and even when they do, the experience is made to be less enjoyable for them than it is for males. If a woman stumbles onto league and starts playing, but finds none of her female friends are interested in video games, do you think she'll keep playing? No. Say a few women decide to go get into a video and they come across world of warcraft where all the women are scantily dressed. This sends a really negative message and is just a really gross experience for women, so of course they arn't going to want to continue playing. Even league up until recently was very much made for the male eye with all its anatomically impossible half-naked female champions. And finally, look up videos of overwatch sexism on youtube. Even if a woman managed to get into a social group that supported her gaming hobby, and looked past the obvious male catering that video games do, would *you* wanna keep playing if people harassed you for your gender/maintained the idea that "girls are trash at videogames"? tl;dr: women are socially discouraged from playing videogames, which results in a major male to female playerbase ratio. The much larger male playerbase statisically has a much higher chance of producing top players due to size, not biological difference. Just a theory from a psychologist in training.
@Aces Never said one had to be encouraged to partake in a recreational activity, I said that certain populations are discouraged from partaking. Also, your personal experience isn't a counter-argument. Don't be so ego-centric. Just because you havn't experienced something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
@@rancidraw Wow, incredible, very insightful. Thank you, random male youtube commenter, for providing insight into how women, a population I am a part of, think about video games. Who knew that having a vagina correlated with not liking games, aka fun recreational activities. Phenomenal.
@@purplefirefly13if you grow up in a shit house of course everyone's gonna talk shit but if you grow up in a normal home nothing will happen as long as you still do shit you need to do
@Aces ...Yeah? So do all gamers? Female gamers get the same thing plus much much more as I explained in my original comment. I don't see how you can equate your basic gamer experience to all the marginalization women experience. You call my arguments flat because they're inconsistent with your personal experience? Lol, *your* arguments are the ones that are weak af.
honestly, I think part of the reason girls are less known in pro gaming or even gaming in general, Is cuz it's less socially acceptable for girls to play those games. As someone raised female, I remember there were times where my cousins and I would have sleepovers, where the boys got to go downstairs and play halo the whole time, but the girls had to stay upstairs and watch a black and white movie with our grandma, and when all of us were upset because we wanted our turns on games, we got yelled at cuz it's not 'lady-like.' Even now, my brother is getting gifted PlayStations, he has his own Xbox, and my mom bought us a switch, my brother had no interest in the switch so I took it cuz it was supposed to be for all my siblings, and once I spent my own money getting games I wanted to play, then my brother showed interest and my mom told me she would put a lawsuit against me cuz I used my own money on the switch and didn't want my brother to mess up my animal crossing island. I also saved up money for two years to get my own PC, which my brother literally has more playtime on it than I even do cuz when he visits he spends hours playing on it. The last time my siblings were over, I let my sister play on it cuz she hadn't yet, and she was only on for 3 hours but the whole time my brother was complaining and I got in trouble for not letting him play and "being cruel to him" even though he literally has over 48 hours played on the game he was wanting to play. Plus my male cousins get away with gaming for hours, shouting slurs at people online, and ignoring their work and it gets excused away with "oh boys will be boys." but I spend five hours on my tablet working on an art project and I get literally screamed at because I'm "being lazy and unproductive" and I get my electronics confiscated despite the fact that I'm an adult and I paid for all of them myself. Gaming just isn't as accessible to some girls, to the point that we get threatened over it, and I hate it cuz I think it's a huge part of misogyny in the gaming community that gets largely overlooked.
@@venturoushope2846 exactly!! But when we say something about it it gets ignored because our experiences aren't seen as valuable as men's do, it's exhausting. An example I saw of this was in Mr. Beasts RUclipsr paintball tournament, wherein the only all female team was taken out almost immediately because they were targeted and cornered in an area where they didn't have weapons, I saw so many comments saying "well this proves that girls just aren't good at it like guys are." Or "it's funny they play shooter games for a living but can't shoot irl." When in the video the girls said that a team coming at them literally shouted to the others "let's target them" (probably not the exact wording I'm too busy to rewatch the vid rn) and didn't even give them a chance. Plus, the only other team with a girl on it was the one that won the tournament! It's like, maybe don't balme something on my character when there's a clear bias against me for something I have literally no control over. But, in order for men to do that then they'd have to acknowledge that they aren't superior and that women are actually capable of amazing things when given the chance. But that goes against everything they've been raised to believe, and it doesn't stroke their egos.
I don't feel clickbaited or anything, but I do not find this video really good. I of course don't want to attack personally, but I see really few valuable information in the things your said. No reliable statistics, no data on female Challenger or Masters Players... I understand that it is hard to gather such data, why it is no shame that you seemingly failed at it, but this leaves the video devoid of any meaningfull content. To guess that there are no female players of sufficiant skilllevel is not an absurd approach, but rather it seems like an "obvious" explanation. But without data to back it up the claim is really worthless. As I clicked on the video I expected something in the line of an analysis on all current challenger players to see what percentage is female. This is of course impossible and I am beeing delusional, but it seems to me that this would be the only approach to really judge the skill of the female playerbase. (I would be very surprised to find that there are no female challengers, I bet there are some, but if a study would show the lack of any it would be a perfect explanation!)
There is NO data on rank by Gender. Girl streamers ruined the image of girls therefor everybody i've met in master+ calls girls "egirls" , they play support 95% of the time, or mid. I have never seen a girl play something else on EUNE, and i've never seen a master + girl on EUW. But they are pretty good at janna atleast. You want to get data that has never been collected or submitted. Whether there is an explanation or not, girls are just worse at video games, thats about it. But honestly who cares, its just league. The only satisfaction i get from it after 8 years of playing it is when i smash somebody, which is not as frequent in high elo playing jungle.

This video aged gracefully lmfaooo. Just yesterday the only professional all female league team was taken off the SPL because in 2 seasons they couldn’t even win 1 game. So they went 0-28. They couldn’t even take down 1 inhibitor in 28 games. Take the info as you will but these are the facts lmfao.
You guys should check out the R6:Siege roster from C9. They have a female pro in their starting roster called Goddess and she is absolutely amazing. Opens up ways for the future !
This goes deeper than all of this. Gaming was marketed towards boys for the better part of the entirety of gaming, only recently has gaming has become "global", "accepted", and "universal". Gaming used to be for nerd boys, now games are trying to market to everybody. So with that it became a domino effect, boys got to play games and were encouraged to play games much sooner than girls, they had more time to practice, more time to be skilled while girls were encouraged to do their hair and put on makeup. Then it got to the point where it was so male dominated that it made it impossible for females to break in. Most of these professional gamers are set up in communal houses where they practice for hours and hours a day. Trying to throw a female into that male dominant house is just... not going to work and teams recognize that. Give it more years though and I honestly think females will be able to break into the scene once companies and teams see the potential that females have because they are just as capable of being good at games as men. This is all coming from a females perspective. It goes both ways too, this isn't about sexism, this is about decades of social conditioning. We are JUST starting to see more men in the makeup community (Jeffree Star, James Charles, Wayne Goss), when a decade ago it was unheard of, weird and disgusting for men to be into makeup. And I think in the future women will be able to break into gaming just like men did in the makeup industry, it just takes time to break down those walls of social conditioning and being constantly told that this is for that gender and that can't be for that gender.
What is this bullshit everyone keeps saying about it being frowned upon for young girls to play games? The fuck? Trust me the parents of young girls would much their their daughters play games and stay out of their hair just the the young boys tend to do. No one is stopping girls from doing this. They just choose not to.
@@Maibuwolf Not true for everybody, my parents frowned upon me playing any type of video games. But they didn't even blink when I went to school with a full face of makeup at the age of 10. Whenever I was playing games I had to hide it, because if they notised they would turn off the internet, if that didn't work they would take my pc away from me for the rest of the day.
@@Maibuwolf When I say boys are encouraged to play video games and girls aren't, I'm not talking about their parents, I'm talking about marketing. But some parents do not want their girls playing video games, or their boys playing with makeup too, that's also a fact.
You mean companies spend ad money targeting the most likely people to use their product? Oh how terrible! What a travesty. Obviously they should have spent many millions on a nationwide ad campaign targeting young females for those 5% or so of females that gave a fuck about video games instead of using the ad money on the exponentially larger male audience. Stop being a dumbass.
I agree with this, pretty much. I was lucky enough to have a crazy father who wanted me to play quake 2 and kill all his work buddies as a youngin. Now here I am, top 1% of league on ADC and I only play DPS roles in all my games because I just wanna kill shit. Eventually my parents did have a problem with how much I gamed though, as they would've with a son if they'd ever had one. Spent 2600 on my gaming computer, because, hey... we gotta support our favorite hobbies. lol.
I think the main issue with team sports/esports is that it would be hard to find an all female team that can actually grind as much as an all male team. There may be some solo female players that can play like men however it would be harder to integrate them into a male team without having any conflicts in the long run. Hoping for a female pro player specially in DotA.
If there were solo female players who could do that you would see them get recruited to a team just like male players. But you don't. You only see sub par, non-pro level players recruited to all girl teams as a gimmick
I know a lot of female players actually, and almost all of them are playing ADC/Mid or sometimes support. My best friend is playing Jungle or Toplane too, though. She doesn't enjoy it enough to main it, but she' s not like "nah, never" - and she also plays a ton of male champions. More than I do at least. She is also very competetive, when playing, but we have so many things going on in our lives and we aren't the youngest anymore (mid 20s) and we simply are not very good. So we just stay at our Mid-Gold Level and are fine with it.

The female OW player you're talking about was actually 1 of the 2 who ended up staying on the team after the Shangai Dragons basically rebuilt their entire team. She is known for her great D'VA play but not much else, the team as a whole even won a stage playoff in OWL this past season with how much they improved
I clicked on this video for Miss Han Yi Ying on the thumbnail and it turns out to be a clickbait. She played Warcraft and Starcraft professionaly in 2007-2013 and got honored several times.
I play league of legends and am female. I believe a woman needs to not be treated as a novelty in an "all gurl novelty league team." I think women should get there on their own merit. Get to challenger and find a team. Not an "all girl" team. Just a team. I'd want to represent myself as part of the team and not have to be there just because I'm female.
That pretty much sums it up. When the best girls on the scene stop selling themselves out as marketing material and start focusing on their pro career I'm sure they'll get there. The other option would be a split, like in traditional sports, but that definetly would not work.
The reason an all-female team is often supported is because of the message it gives, that the future is female; it's a way to empower women. If you all didn't have pea brains and had a basic sense of social and political awareness, you'd understand the real meaning behind having all-female teams lol
@@collegedropout7815 Whoa hold up. I just want to play video games. Female empowerment is great and I am for it, being female and all.
Yep and she is still at the top of the leaderboard even now!

樊哙 what is warcraft 3 and starcraft 2? Ahh i remember SINGLE PLAYER GAME, dont compare it with LOL a TEAM GAME
@@TakeshYM starcraft 2 isnt single player lol
I hope everyone knows this is not some "effect of our society", it's primal.

I feel like main reason of women not being in Pro League is because:
First - majority of playerbase are still men like i would say around 60% or more of any game
Second - in those % you need to think how many of those people are in those small percentage of ranks are girls if they are already a minority
Third - if you arent good enough compared to people from all around diamond to high challenger even if you qualify > you wont get into the League.

@@GoldenBoyXCM how? If you don't have the motivation, you certainly won't do it. My family is full of gamers and lemme tell ya, the females in our family are the hardcore ones.
This leads to certain personalities risking everything. because pro gaming is a sphere which requires a combination of huge amounts of free time, intelligence and dedication which all together can only be found in a small amount of people already no matter the gender.
because a girl is less likely to be interested in games or take them seriously purely because it’s a male oriented community (and can often be hostile or downright predatory towards you if you are female) and your interests aren’t as likely to be shared among your peers as if it were if you were a boy + girls (and minorities in general) are put under more societal pressure and have more real life responsibilities, so they aren’t as usually socially inept or detached as boys often are, which is a quality you probably need to have if you are willing to put thousands of hours into “getting gut”-
because reality check. esports are legitimately so detached from life and someone with willpower and wits would probably prefer to actually contribute to society in a meaningful way rather than play video games for others peoples entertainment.
because leagues creme de la creme is less than a percent of its player base. now look at those numbers compared to humanity as a whole and an already small chance of a smart girl with no social life picking up a video game and sticking with it. simple math.

I’m officially offended, Urgot is the cutest thing in the multiverse
Bullshit, people are doing everything to get more women into esports.
Quit making up these idiotic fables.
This is very much NOT the reason at all. There is so much wrong with this.. I'd rather just leave it be.
"Why is there no females in Esports?"
*VSauce music starts playing* OMG, Nicolai, that killed me.
Just admit that killing some cocky mainlainer as support is WAY more satisfactory than doing 2-3 kills as purposeful damage dealer.

There are female pro players in all TCG's (yugioh, hearthstone, magic the gathering). What makes those different from MOBA's?
Twitch is too friendly to women. Women get away with blatantly breaking the rules on their titty streams but are never banned for it because it brings in views and money. So a few people spam 'grill', that's not exactly offensive.

Just a theory from a psychologist in training.
uhh more like they don't wanna play games because they don't like games
@Aces Never said one had to be encouraged to partake in a recreational activity, I said that certain populations are discouraged from partaking. honestly, I think part of the reason girls are less known in pro gaming or even gaming in general, Is cuz it's less socially acceptable for girls to play those games.
Beasts RUclipsr paintball tournament, wherein the only all female team was taken out almost immediately because they were targeted and cornered in an area where they didn't have weapons, I saw so many comments saying "well this proves that girls just aren't good at it like guys are." When in the video the girls said that a team coming at them literally shouted to the others "let's target them" (probably not the exact wording I'm too busy to rewatch the vid rn) and didn't even give them a chance.

Legov7 right on point

Their League team also has a cute lesbian! Kappa
Also overwatch team shanghai dragons had a female pro player

4 months after this video came out. Look at Vaevictis Gaming lmao
I thought this video would give an answer to the title, quite disappointing
It did. And it's exactly what you're thinking, sad to say. But it doesn't mean women can't become pros.
There are no pro women because there's yet to be a female willing to be one, but there's nothing stopping them
Men have better hand-eye so a lot of females just end up being worse and it seems females try less than men to become pros.
@@Timotheus24 i'm quite sure that if a girl really want to become a pro she can do it all the way along
The answer is = there is no girl with the same skills as lcs players

I’ve been playing league for about 10 months and I have met, 3 female players besides myself.
Being a girl, whenever I have a bad game on support (yeah, I do main support) people always go "Ugh are you a girl? Senpai can teach you". No kidding, that's what some Yasuo bot laner actually told me. I usually don't say that I'm a girl and whenever I meet someone I can duo with and use vc, they never seem to really care.
I wish girls could be in esports. They’d get so much publicity for the esports scene. Cause like. There’s no one.

You're lookin in the wrong game my guys. Go look at rocket league there already is a pro female player. Her name is karma
There was one actually, she was no longer a pro. I forgot what team she was but she was support main, Tresh is her specialty. She was transgender but she is a female. People forgot about her but her hooks were legendary cause she almost got 100% skill shot.
The female OW player you're talking about was actually 1 of the 2 who ended up staying on the team after the Shangai Dragons basically rebuilt their entire team. She is known for her great D'VA play but not much else, the team as a whole even won a stage playoff in OWL this past season with how much they improved

What? Role? Captain?

Imm shove my 8 years exp. ADC/Support experience then.
When you showed a picture of the owerwatch girl, i was like ''what girl'' and than i realized.....
I can 100% respect your statement. That is exactly how it should be, Latias.
However, along with equality I'd say females should be treated less like "novelty" subjects and more like another person playing the game. Hence my comment to begin with....
Not everything needs to be so politically charged, but it does need to be fair and just...
how about the fact everyone on renegade wore matching uniforms and Remi wore a red tank top that stood out like a sore thumb. these are all gimmicks .
