There appears to be writing on the top of the pyramids of Giza. What it says, and to whom it's addressed, remains a mystery. But that doesn't stop some intrepid microlighters trying to read it.

The writing on the top was obviously done centuries after the pyramid was built. We know this because the pyramid is missing its top. The top would have covered the writing rendering it pointless because it would’ve have been seen. The writing was added once that layer was exposed. Maybe during one of the repairs…
Plus, most Egyptians were illiterate. Meaning a priest would have been one of the few people who could even write on it.
We know this because those aren’t ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs lol. They didn’t have written language like that. 😂
Some guilds signed bricks. Some were inscribed with directions. There could very well be one valid inscription.
Also it looks like arabic script so definitely not from the ancient Egypt era lol

Where did the top go?
It was removed in the 19th century to make space for tourists to sit on the top. That's also where the writing came from as people would often carve their names or other messages into the stones.

A huge earthquake happened a few hundred years after they were created, and it damaged the pyramids white outer layer so they removed the white and took the golden cap off.

Not if the pyramids were built by a civilization long before the Ancient Egyptians. There are theories that the Egyptians may have inherited many of the structures in Egypt and put their own graffiti on some of them. This theory makes a lot of sense. If you look at the Sphinx, the head is not proportionate to the rest of the body. The theory states that the head could have been that of a lion, which matches the body. When the Egyptians inherited it, they tried to re carve the head ti make it like one of their pharaohs.
@ that doesn’t even make sense. Egyptians are not a monolith as are not any other culture, so saying Egyptians inherited it from cultures before them is the redundant way of saying even older Egyptians.
The “theory” which is an awful word to use when discussing extremely ancient history due to the fact there are so many missing pieces that the best any of us can come up with is an educated hypothesis, which is very different.
You can test theory, but you can’t prove it.
Hypothesis needs more evidence to create a theory/conclusion.
What we have in terms of facts around extremely ancient Egypt are slim to none.
So no, your theory is not superior in my mind. Sorry.

It's not hard if you can avoid security. I've seen a dog run up and down it in minutes. It's the reason those markings are there at all. Most of those marking are names and dates showing who climbed and vandalized it. Maybe even a few C+E with a heart on it. Some of them are probably old but nothing ancient.

Agreed! Not hieroglyphics at all. Much of it is just old graffiti engravings of tourist names and dates left behind as a memento from those who have climbed the pyramid over the course of mostly the last few hundred years.
Awesome that you were fortunate to have climbed it in the 80's.
@carysmith8258 some were the names of soldiers and dates from early 1900s, most were tourists, it's all just graffiti up there.
@pgestudio75 they were mainly tourists names up there and names of soldiers from early 1900s. It was a great experience, we went before sunrise and had to pay a small fortune to security for them to allow us to climb it. I have some great pictures, would do it again in a heartbeat.
It is written in Arabic so obviously it has a powerful meaning.
