Dc dimming is a technique used to reduce the brightness, just like PWM dimming. In DC dimming brightness of the display is controlled by altering the voltage supplied to the backlight(LCD) or pixels (OLED). Think of it like running a mini motor in 6v vs 9v battery. This will reduce the flickering caused by pwm dimming method at low brightness, but also increase the noise /reduce the color accuracy. That is why DC dimming can be disabled in many phones ( it will be called flicker free mode or similar) This, and many other such terms will be explained in the next video , hope you will like it.
Theoretically speaking, LCD and its different variants have longer life when compared to OLED. CRT and OLEDs are susceptible to damage more, depending on the content you are viewing ( and issues like green lines). Practically speaking, we now live in a world where the tech is designed to fail long before anything happens to the display.
