OMC Cobra.... OMC dumped an absolutely insane amount of R&D into that outdrive, gimble housing, tilt trim and the shift interrupt, they almost lived, they got the contract with Bayliner but didn't make enough in other sales to stay afloat, they were holding on by a thread for years and finely sold out to Volvo / Penta and that very outdrive is an incredible success, renamed the SX. Anyway, to say that parts for that outdrive are discontinued is a bit of an over statement, in tact and ready for service, it will easily fetch 1500 dollars. the 4 banger is an Iron Duke, they still use those in boats, forklifts, generators and cars, they are inexpensive long lasting little engines with a decent amount of torque. The boat was a POS the day it was made, everything about it is the cheapest available. Surprisingly enough this had the benefit of lightening up the hull by a about 30% of it's leading competitors .... God, i'm so ashamed that i know so much about these boats
We Called them Baysinker around here lol. Buddy had one with a Force Outboard and the first time I went out with him it blew the head gasket. Went thru the engine for him and the engine ran good for years even with a dead choke solenoid would fire up everytime for years
People don't understand the amount of hard work and time this man is putting into our entertainment, thanks bro. I just found your channel yesterday with ypur newest video recommended to me out of the blue. Also, one part of this video brought back some vivid memories of my ex girlfriend, any guesses? lol
Hey man, thanks so much for checking out the videos and yeah they definitely take a lot of time and effort to make that's for sure. Greatly appreciate you leaving a comment. And my guess would be you took your ex-girlfriend out and the boat broke down or ran like junk?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I'm actually binge watching you now bro. I literally found ypur channel in recommendations. I watched the new jet boat obviously, then the trashliner series, now I'm on part three of the air boat. Definitely going to subscribe now. The amount of work ypur putting into these videos is insane. I will definitely share with my buddies. I love doing the same kind of stuff, from helping little animals to cleaning up fishing spots and rebuilding old stuff to enjoy. The thing that reminded me of my ex girlfriend was when you were draining the water put of the drain hole ........lmao, sorry for the mental picture...haha. Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication.
I don't know if he got the 50,000 views in the first seven days he said were needed to make him spend money on the boat to make it run or not. But he sure surpassed that mark now!! LOL. As of a little less than a year later it's at 776,805 views!!! Right on NNKH!! You're Awesome!
Your like the New England version of a bush mechanic. It’s a term for the gnarly northern Australian people who do anything to fix a vehicle. Makes for very entertaining content!
I have built boats for 14 years between several companies: Seminole Marine (Sailfish and Southwind boats) Edgewater Power Boats, Brunswick (Sea Ray line) and everglades. I would love to find some of these freebies you have or at least one to restore. Kudos to your efforts and work.
You anywhere near Pennsylvania? I would gift this boat to you if you had plans to restore it. I mean I really don't think an old bay liner like this is worth the effort. Probably worth it to get something way more unique.
For a rust locked engine, or one that has rust in a cylinder, before trying to start it, put some white vinegar in the cylinders, let it sit for 30-45 minutes and usually will unfreeze and as the vinegar dissolves the rust, helps free rust stuck piston rings, and gets a lot of the rust out of the cylinders, gives your rings a better chance after an oil/fuel mix startup. try it, use an engine you thought was so rust stuck it would need disassembly to repair, then you can really see how well it works. might leave it in that type of stuck engine an hour or 2, even overnight.
I don't know about the east coast but here on the west coast these boats readily available for anyone who wants to put in a little elbow grease. I've been fortunate enough enough to break even by buying them and refurbishing them
The hull looks good , the iron duke will never wear out . Just the glass on that thing is 300 to500 bucks . I would strip it down and build the interior .
All that's left of that boat is the hull, engine and some of the instruments may be okay. The wood inside the transom may even be rotted out and need to be dug out from the inside, then re-glassed. All the flooring and other interior structures have to built from scratch. Huge job. I rebuilt a 17' Sunbird, another OMC boat. Not as far gone as that one, but it had stuff growing out of the carpet also. I was lucky it had an outboard, in good shape on mine. But that inline 4 may be okay also if it will run.
That is the good thing when you are a bad ass mechanic. People and insurances company throw things up because they don't want to deal with them and you can come, fix them, keep them and re-sale it ..
Good video. There is something so satisfying about putting a new, clean sets of wheels and tires on an old trailer. Gives me motivation to get back to work on the broken boat that I shouldn’t have brought home either. Haha.
Looks like a 3510 starter. You can probably get one at a junkyard for $15.00. You might even have one laying around. Came on tons of GM products from the late '60s to the late '80s.
Man that thing is crispy. I remember when I was a kid my father had a Bayliner similar to this one. I think it was a 16 foot Bowrider with a 85hp Force outboard. I always loved how these boats look. OMC though.... That sucks. Would be cool if it had one of them 4.3L V6 inboard outboard MerCruiser.
We had one of these. It was an 1988 or 89. I can't remember. It had the 3.0L 4cyl. Something like 135hp (I think). Ours ran great and we never had a problem with it. But we took care of it and never left it out in the elements. Only thing we hated about it that I can remember is that it was loud as hell. We sold it about 7yrs later and aside from a little UV fading of the dash it looked and ran great.
I bought an 88 bayliner Capri that needs a new exhaust manifold and manifold elbow riser cause there’s a water leaks where the gaskets are between the two. Looking forward to getting her back up to par though, 120hpf on the water would be great this upcoming summer🤙🏾
I’d yank the engine and out drive , steering cable and wheel and switches and cut the boat up but keep the trailer also ! Basically strip it so another boat may live ! Haha 😂
I wouldn't say that. Nothing to lose, tinking around with this old junker. You're the guy taking on big challenges working on high-end stuff! Incredible work you do
Bayliner,s make the best flower pots. You can find these everywhere mostly used for garbage cans after they stop running which in most cases is relatively quickly do to owner lack of maintenance after the first season. What I love here in Michigan is the high school graduates that post the trailer for sale but you have to take the boat, which costs about $50 bucks per ton to dispose of. But usually the trailers are in no better condition because the were mass produced, cheap with a short life span especially if you didn't invest in a quality cover to keep the water out. LMAO. I restored a 1987 Chaparral villain ll only because they are still sought after. Cost a lot, broke even, won't do it again because I Hate Hate Hate fiberglass work. And it has to be done right.
I say make a u pull it run for a similar starter that will bolt up and video tape it. People will like seeing the junk yard and the search for good parts. It’s kinda like hunting for rusty treasures. Lol. If it runs then strip the interior and sell it as a project. Or it could be called dumpster fire and you keep it for river exploring.
Ah another boat, the Bayliner2000, probably sitting in the woods with rusted engine since 1982 :D .... Unfortunately this boat cannot be saved, but maybe there is at least a limited edition David Hasselhoff cassette in a tape player somewhere in the cockpit that can be salvaged and sold on eBay. And Leo is already waiting full of curiosity what the next barnfind (or forest treasure) will be. I am jealous of this tame squirrel - it is so cute!

True. But even if I get it running, it would really need every build. It's days are limited and I'm sure it burns a ton of oil. Just because of the rust
