  • Moza Racing are new, but saturated us with so many reviews and videos when they arrived that they became a familiar name quickly. This is not always a good thing, as sometimes the harder you hit, the more exposed you become, so you'd better land the opening punch. It left them a large wave of doubt and skepticism to overcome on their own, when we all know that the power lies in word of mouth in sim racing. In essence, they need more people to know them from experience.
The R9, CS and SRP bundle will do that - if it's any good. With a brilliant price, this looks like a great option for PC sim racers to get a direct drive setup that isn't Fanatec. So, I bought one to find out what Moza Racing is supplying to incoming sim racers.

Wow! I don't think Fanatec can get anywhere near that, in fact a year after this video was posted a dude posted a video saying he's been waiting for 6 months for his order, Fanatec haven't responded to any of his enquiries (allegedly) There were long delays when the CSL DD released and problems when demand peaked during the lockdown era, I bought my Fanatec CSL DD/Elite V2's & WRC wheel about a year after launch and everything arrived in a week, no issues but so many people had problems since the CSR DD launch, more and more people are looking to Moza, I wish them every success.

It’s also good to know that the pedal set seems to be worth more than it appeared. I can’t justify anything more than a single jump past my Logitech but wasn’t sold on the CSL set. Happy driving!

Yet another brilliant review. The bits with the toaster and using the base to turn got me good. Moza are on to a winner here, I reckon; providing 9nm as standard and not requiring an expensive hub adapter to run external rims (ie Rexing/Cube Controls) are some real good-guy moves, and with the addition of a solid industry-standard quickrelease they appear to have undercut Fanatec significantly. Good on 'em. Can't wait to get my R9 - see if you can get an affiliate link!

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  2 года назад +2

I've seen that - along with USB hubs making Heusinkveld Sprints (etc) work with consoles, there'll be a way for folks that really want it, but it'll be brittle. An update could knacker things up any day and never be fixed, but it's good to know for the gamblers.

I've had my R9 and CS wheel for 3 weeks now. I haven't really customised the settings in Pithouse too much, but did find the size of the CS wheel a bit too large for me. To adapt, I have changed the steering to 450 degrees for ACC and 360 degrees for Raceroom and AMS2. This has been more to my liking. It would be nice to be able to get a smaller diameter wheel and may consider doing so in the future.
I will have to look at some of the other customisation options in Pithouse that Danny alludes to.

Have been watching Moza for a while now and they’ve interested me the most out of the new comers. If only Thrustmaster would hurry up and release their DD as I could sell my t300 as a bundle with the stock pedals and keep my open wheel and TLCMs and buy the base and that would be done… for 6 months anyway. Now I’m thinking about just selling all my TM gear and starting again!

You might have heard wrong about the clutch - the SR-P clutch is a simple spring, no better than the Fanatec CSL's - if you're looking for a really good/interesting clutch pedal, skip these pedals. Heusinkveld Sprints on the other hand have a great clutch.

I had a go with some Moza kit, I didn't like the feel either, R9 default settings, unfortunately I wasn't able to play with the setup. The pedals were different, very nicely finished and as they were setup, pretty good I liked them better than the V3's, and I loved the HGP shifter, I bought one rather than the SQ V1.5, and there are sequential mods if that's important to you. Impressive really, and given Fanatec's odd attitude towards customer service, it's very nice to have an alternative. I really like the CSL DD 8Nm, I changed the shaft clamp on day 1 and use it exclusively with the WRC/QR1 Lite because I prefer a round wheel and it's very lightweight and comfortable, buttons aren't the best but with magnetic shifter upgrade it gives highly detailed FFB, personally I haven't felt better in my limited experience. I'd like to retry the R9 with good settings and a similar weight wheel, I think it's a great alternative from a company that almost certainly has better customer service. Fanatec need to up their game, Moza are serious.

The app will be essential if they ever get their console compatibility up and going. Console racers like myself don't even have a PC around that can be hijacked to use while racing. I use my wife's laptop to update firmware on my wheel and base, but that's not gonna fly if I want to have it hooked up every time I race. Hopefully Moza comes through on their ambition to make this console compatible very soon.

honestly I was torn between the Moza R5 bundle vs the Fanatec CSL DDP1 Bundle.
Since both are at 5nm (5.5 for moza). But the P1 can be upgraded to 8NM with the boost kit.
Now the Moza kit is like £529 in OCUK.
The Fanatec... issue is they only ship from Germany.
Its 559 Euro's without the table mount. Moza got table mount inclusive.
But once the fanatec website picks up that you are in the UK or your address is.
The price went down to 472 euro about 407 GBP. Because they removed the German VAT.
But then once that enters UK, UPS will charge you the missing 20% VAT.
    I am still torn haha
Bottom line is, the fact that a reputable company such as OCUK is selling Moza.
Then it means Moza is a trusted company.
    Anyways, nice review!

I'm currently very fine with my Series X and a new PC together with a wheel would be too expensive for me. So I'm thinking about buying the Moza Package (despite me not being able to play with it now) before it is gonna be sold out like Fanatecs DD bases (I can only speak for the european market).

Can you use the APP in a way that you can use it for making adjustments to settings in real-time while in game and racing? I find that extremely important for fine tuning and is just a huge Quality of Life thing instead of having to Exit the game or minimize the window to make changes, etc.) its is a huge time saver as well as being able to dial in settings to a much finer preference. I kinda got a long comment here but Id love if you read it and answered a couple more things for me. Id honestly appreciate it. Love the video by the way. It was pretty much a perfect review. 10/10 Production Quality all around, Brother.
Okay, So, The R9 is console compatible but you need an adapter. It function a little different depending on the game, but I played GT7 and Assetto Corsa on PS5 at a Sim Event and It felt great to me. I play Assetto on PC and I felt like it matched the detail on the console. I didnt have access to the APP or even know How the PitHouse Software even works with how the Profile setting are managed. You might be able to answer this question for me. When using the APP and it connects to the Base for instance. Does it do it through the home network and PC with the profiles being saved on PC? Or can the APP speak directly with the base without any network hooked up to where the Base has actual onboard memory and standalone receiver so it can at lease save 1 profile in the base itself. If thats the case. Then Holy Shit. Being able to Use is with console on top of all access to the PitHouse Settings would allow an insane amount of Configuration that not even the Console Approved wheels can offer because they only work of In-Game FFB settings.
Man, please tell me the Base actually saves profile data like that, with some form of memory/chip making it STANDALONE in the most literal sense when talking about peripherals. If it truly works that way than this is a much bigger deal then most I think even realize, especially for console usage, my god. Im dead serious, holy crap. If true, this sort of thing needs to be talked about and told to the public because it would triple their sales. It Blows my mind that every Sim Racing Channel or Reviewer never even talks about using Adapters for Consoles like the DRIVEHUB or the Brook Ras1ution 2. Theres so many people on that obviously use PC with higher Rigs and DD setups that never play console because they probably believe there no way there wheelbase would work because their told it wont. I just know there alot of guys that would like to try out GT7 or Forza but they dont because they might not want to buy a cheap $300 wheel the "CERTIFIED". Or, it could be the opposite, where a huge GT7 or Forza Player might not buy a nice DD or Rig (which could lead them to getting more serious about SIM RACING) from MOZA, SIMUCUBE, etc) and they keep giving their money these The Big 3 Companies that only get bigger because of shit like this and the "COMPATABILITY" crap. Its your typical Big Business keeping the Little Guy down like MOZA, Simmagic, Bgner, etc) and preventing them from growing their business in a "fair" market. Its also not the fault of MOZA and the rest that their wheels dont work NATIVELY with consoles. Their Engineers could easily make them work with consoles. Its the fact that they are Gate Kept by SONY and MICROSOFT by having to go through of these extra hoops, liscensing, other legalities, which costs a shit ton of money these days. That why most 3rd party Controllers are either Super elite $200 gamepads or they are some Chinese Knock off gamepads from comapnies that dont need to worry about being sued by Sony and Microsoft.
Example: I had a G-Series mouse once that had PC software for tweaking the DPI, Sensitivity, RGB data, etc. for making custom profiles. So, I could take that mouse to a friends house, plugged it into his PC to try out his rig. I assumed it would just default without any of the G-Series software on his PC. But to my surprise, the Mouse lit up with all the custom Colors and Settings from the profile I made for it. I just figured that the software on the PC had to be running on the same machine the mouse was connected to, but I thought wrong and it was cool. I know there is a specific term of this sort of thing on Peripherals but I cant remember it. Thats why I just say like "Standalone" or "On-board Memory" or idk, its on the tip of my tongue.

Thanks man - You might hope that it can be done via firmware, but it's best to buy on the assumption that it might not be possible and a new unit needs to be released, rather than counting on it being a soft-upgrade and being disappointed if it's not. I'm cautious like that.

If Moza came or announced R9 just 6 months earlier, I wouldn't buy FanaShit DD 0.5 which had so many issues from the get go. When I got it, that collar wasn't tightened. But even when I took care of that, I had wheel disconnects daily. First 1 month of communication with their 1 week reply time. Then had to send everything back. They didn't do shit because I had the same problems when "they fixed it" and got it back. But it wasn't just that.
I bought SCSport and never look back (this is not true, because wheel rims + button boxes are expensive).
Unit R9 is so sleek and look so nice. GS wheel also look great and has everything I would want. And GS is 300mm, whereas FanaShit Formula is 270, which is too small for me.

*What happened to my CSL DD?* - I'm selling mine soon so someone else can enjoy it, as I have a friend with a CSL DD if the need arises for filming/reviewing/video.
*Why have I bought this if I already had a CSL DD?* - To review it, video it and then keep it. If you've got a CSL DD right now, there's no reason you'd buy an R9 for any reason other than change for change's sake, or if you liked the look of something.

That was the question I was going to ask you during the last stream where you used the r9. Was wondering why you didn't move up to the 16 or 21. I know power isn't everything, but I often feel like the 8nm dd is weak and lacking on certain cars/tracks.

@@Disco_Potato I guess I'm still loitering around the reception area of sim racing, focusing on the 'entry' equipment that newer racers might find themselves using. Same with my guides and instructionals - all about the 'getting serious' phase of this pasttime of ours. Would definitely love to sample a bigboi wheelbase soon though.

Great video. One issue with Fanatec currently is the delays in shipping and also the cost of shipping / imports. I think currently to by the BFK for the V3s it's more in shipping and import cost than the product itself.
How do the cost work out for Moza gear?

    • @dannyleeracing

I recently received my R9 base. While waiting for the wheel to arrive, I though I would check things out. When I tried to screw the mounting screws into the base, I found that they would not screw in by hand. I will have to use the Allen wrench provided but am reluctant because I fear they may be cross threaded. What was your experience with the mounting screws?

Great review! Very thorough. Thank you!
I have an older Accuforce DD and am thinking of replacing it. I hate the wheel wire used for the buttons and shifters. I know you don't have an Accuforce, but do you think I should make the change? Also, the Accuforce software to control the wheel is terrible and very outdated. I can see getting the Turn Racing rim added too since I race open wheel. I bet Moza will be watching these comments... Thanks again!

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  2 года назад +2

I'm not sure the R9 would be a good choice as the accuforce is a much more powerful base, so you'd lose some of the capacity you're used to. Sounds like Simucube would be up your street as they have a wireless system and are very much up to date

Hello! Thank you for this great review! I'm looking forward to switch to moza r9 from fanatec (csl dd) and i need to now a little detail, if you can help me! I want to now how csl pedals compare with those srp in terms of sound (when you bottom out the throttle and cluthch, and also when you release them). On my fanatec csl pedals i really needed to go with a 3drap zero noise mod because they were very loud(metal to metal contact), for my needs, at least... Thank you very much in advice!🙏

    • @dannyleeracing

Heard great things about the VRS pedals, but there's only one of me and I gotta follow my nose - I'm not a fan of the VRS 'package' overall as it looks pretty utilitarian, but I don't doubt its credentials. I work full time so I gotta be brutal with what I dedicate my evenings and weekends on! Although that argument doesn't hold up when you look back on some of the more 'fringe' videos in the archive...

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I know what you mean about deciding about spending your money on. I did the jump from Fanatec DD to VRS and its great and feels strong, accurate and raw.
