    The Offspring is probably the biggest fall from grace in terms of album quality for any band I've loved. I'm not even one of those people who hate "new" stuff. I appreciate when bands try new things, new sounds, because I understand that they don't want to keep playing the same old shit. It's not even the "sellout" thing to me. I don't think they are writing songs specifically to be played on the radio, they're just not good. Their last three albums are pretty much unlistenable to me outside of maybe three songs. Saw them live a couple years ago and they still rule, so they still have it at least. Matt is right, just give us one old school revival record and see what happens.

    • @PunkRockRadar
      @PunkRockRadar  2 года назад +1

      Would love a revival, I don't know why they wouldn't humor the idea, it's not like people are going wild for new Offspring, might as well make your old school fans happy. I guess we will see though

      Ya it’s weird, albums like Splinter and Conspiracy have some great songs on them but theres so many terrible ones on them too, half great and half bad, they’re trying too hard to have another “pretty fly”

      I think Green Day decline has been even more sad. The Offspring's recent albums you know you'll get at least two or three awesome punk rock songs and some other decent tracks paired with cringe singles. Let's take the last two albums: Dividing by zero+Slim Pickens is as good as anything they've ever written. And the last album has at least three awesome punk songs. The crime of the last album is the awful production.

    I’d swap Conspiracy and Splinter, but you guys are sleeping heavily on Rise and Fall.
    With Bad Times, they changed direction and they originally were going to continue the experimental songs they started with Days Go By. The only thing that remains from that is We Never Have Sex Anymore, and personally I really want them to complete that album

    My wife and I like Americana. Maybe it's the generational gap (we are in our late 40's) but we never liked Smash. Maybe it was the overexposure? Fun Fact: Here in Cleveland there are a couple of places that still have an original Crazy Taxi arcade game. Our 14 year old daughter loves playing it :)

    Self-titled - B - Lacking solid melodies and that identifiable Offspring sound that they developed on the next record, it sounds like a mish mash of 80s punk rock bands, the playing is a bit sloppy, but it has some really cool Middle-Eastern/metal breakdowns and riffs throughout, the lyrics are also good. I used to have the CD that had 'Kill The President' as the last track but I lost it :( // Highlights for me: Beheaded, Tehran and Blackball // Weakest tracks: Nothing terrible really
    Ignition - B- - First album that sounds like an Offspring album, love the intro but it's just not that engaging an album to me, the melodies are better but songs like 'Get It Right' and 'Hypodermic' have such weak choruses // Highlights for me: Session, Dirty Magic and LAPD // Weakest tracks: Most of the songs I have some problem with but most of all is probably 'Nothing From Something' or 'We Are One' - some weak lyrics that don't say very much, a problem that would reappear on Ixnay
    Smash - S+ - Love at first listen, instant love when I discovered it in 2002 at 15 years old, the perfect blend of metal and punk, the lovely crunchy guitars, strong melodies, better musicianship, more dynamics, more sophisticated songwriting, some great lyrics, still gives me chills 21 years later // Highlights for me: Bad Habit (probably my favourite Offspring song), Something to Believe in, Come out and Play, Self-Esteem, Smash // Weakest tracks: Nothing I dislike enough to worth mentioning
    Ixnay - B+ - More variety on this album maybe, definitely better musicianship, slicker production, some of Dexter's best melodies and soaring vocals (Seventeen Shannon is pregnant...young as her mom when she had her!!), some of their best songwriting but also some of Dexter's worst lyrics (I Choose) // Highlights for me: Meaning of Life, Leave it Behind, Gone Away and Amazed // Weakest tracks: All I Want, I Choose (the lyrics spoil it for me), but no bad songs really
    Americana - B - Overproduced a tad but still good although I never listen to it, strong melodies again, cool breakdowns like the end of 'Have you Ever', 'Feelings' has such a badass intro before the drums kick in // Highlights for me: Have you Ever, Americana and Pay the Man // Weakest tracks: End of the Line I can't remember how it goes
    Conspiracy - D+ - Way overproduced album, annoying songs, 'Original Prankster' was 'Come out and Play' mk3 except bad, good melodies again, some bad lyrics, too bright-sounding for me // Highlights for me: None that I ever listen to, peaks with Come Out Swinging, has some good melodies throughout the album but none that sustain an entire song // Weakest tracks: Million Miles Away is so glitzy and annoying, not a fan of this album at all
    Splinter - Bought it in 2004, hated it, stopped listening to any new releases after this - D-
