    *newer style train in video is #31 leaving Bkk at 14:45
    *return from Hua Hin train is #40 leaving at 16:00 (express seater style)
    Pls NOTE:
    Note: Since my trip in the video I again tried booking (SRT online) 2cnd class AirCon train for a wedding in Hua Hin. However, Hua Hin trains were all sold out or did not appear. I thought because high season demand or??? So I called the SRT hotline 1690 and they said can no longer book aircon seats on far South-bound routes for such a short trip such as to Hua Hin (on seats which are also beds for longer journeys) - makes sense really.
    EXCEPTION: 8:05 a.m. special express which is an A/C commuter seat train with 4 carriages.
    Also note: SRT said they limit online bookings to 25% of total seats to be fair to all.
    *If one still wants to book the new #31 train I took, you could try to book and pay for a higher fare to say PKK / Prachuap Khiri Khan (approx 1.5 hours after Hua Hin) but disembark at Hua Hin.
    Prachuap is an absolute gem, so if you miss the Hua Hin stop, you'll likely LOVE PKK!
    See my vid on PKK here:

    Would NOT recommend taking a NON-aircon train even to Hua Hin as it will not be comfortable...

    Pretty entertaining and well done camera work, like the ongoing titles. We’re here in Hua Hin at the Blue Lagoon. Upscale living, interested in all levels of food and shopping though. So always watching for hidden gems, hole-in-the-wall-delicious-fresh-food eateries,, interesting markets (hubby found an interesting household stuff market on the main N-S road in a huge hall). So many little places to discover. We are past the age of Clubbing, but not one foot in the grave yet at 60 ....for any age great place with lovely chill atmosphere in Area by 51 district Baan Gliwang. Called a ‚cake shop‘,, they do serve lovely thai desserts and wonderful cakes, but also small thai food specialties. Friendly and kind staff, uniquely calm and lovely atmosphere, natural materials very chilled beachfront respite. Nice to get away from plastic chairs without going fancy.

      @wayne bevan Hi Wayne, depends on the band playing plus best to go to Baan Khun Por on a weekend (note Dec 3 was a Tuesday) Still, great food choices at great prices also the drinks too. Agree Hua Hin has a nice atmosphere, no matter quiet or busier weekends, still a charmer.

      @BRUCE MF VANE Hi Bruce, yep very nice indeed. However, as a big time train buff I'll miss the old style ones being phased out now. Mostly for the nostalgia and the atmosphere plus sense of history and adventure on the old clackity clack, hole in floor loo, outer doors open & clanging and the old restaurant car too. Back when, it was a hilight to meet other travellers over a bucket of ice and a few beers in the old restaurant car with windows open and wind blowing through. Nowadays it's nice but err much more 'sterlie' (like the West...meh). Fortunately it's still uniquely Thailand though ;)

    I’m just back from a month in Thailand where we spent 10 days in Hua Hin. Yes it’s quiet but who wants busy on a holiday.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +2

      @daniel quigley - Also prefer quiet. Hua Hin is still great tho whether quiet or a bit busy as it can get on weekends, especially long weekends (but then if you're trying to find a parking spot in town, good luck;). In this vid, the beach and night market scenes were on a weekend just after New Years thus quite busy (surprised how busy it was actually and the many westerners, a lot of Scandinavians too as is typical for Hua Hin).
      But Hua Hin is also much more spread out these days. Back in the day, Hua Hin visitors were concentrated mostly in the main town area. Nowadays there's countless more restaurants, cafes, hotels, guesthouses, condos, etc etc up every soi over the tracks plus down to Takiab and beyond, thus much more spread out. Still as you say, will take quiet just fine please and thank you :)

    Nice video... to be fair... Blúport is more expensive then Market Village, but there is another choice in articles, more upscaled. And if you take the expat M-Card from Blúport you can get up to 5% discount. Market Village has Home Pro, which is good for people living around Hua Hin. And on Wednesdays there is a second hand market in the basement of Blúport. You can get very good bargains there.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +1

      @Sjaak Schulteis - Thank you for the added info. Would only add, MAKRO food service is another good option. For those who don't know Makro is a food/merch wholesaler, sort of a smaller version of Costco or Sam's Club. Located 10 mins out of town towards Bangkok, just befpre the airport and the main Hua Hin/Bangkok bus terminal (the old in town bus terminal is greatly missed...) @stephen cooke 7 11 closes in Hua Hin? Wasn't aware of this. I was out late recently in HH on NY eve at said club/pub back of Hilton (at the one directly opp Mai Tai which is apparently often open til late). After, on way to hotel went into the 7 11 round the corner near Mc'ds which was indeed open -Mc'ds & Burger King open 24 hrs too.

      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +1

      @saffira35 Hi, thanks for viewing and for asking. Same ol camera in every vid. Thinking of upgrading but it's just youtube after all so it's ok for that. My 'unicorn' camera would be similarly tiny as the one I use now (hate lugging a large camera;) but with a 1" sensor for low light. Rumour has it Sony may be announcing a new action cam, if it's say an x-4000 and relatively well priced, might trade up.
      Forgot, here's my cam - latest review I can find:
      ruclips.net/video/67olWg6D1eM/видео.html
      That and a Samsung phone; - filmed this entire skyline sequence on my old Samsung S7:
      ruclips.net/video/ayFpqRB3DZ4/видео.html
      So for anyone looking in wondering how much to spend on gear to get started, a used phone or action cam should do just fine.
      Happy filming all :)

    Good clear video well done, showing different priced hotels. But I must admit 2018 I had the misfortune of staying in Peony hotel, I paid in full for a month big mistake. These rooms require a huge upgrade, from the front door there is a dirty old plywood door, bathroom is horrible mouldy and old. Towels are old and all falling apart, tv all Thai channels and a very old tv. Bed was ok as was balcony. Staff great. But not even a budget hotel. Check out Visa hotel next to SAN Paulo hospital a few baht more but fantastic. Take care and keep up the good vlogs

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +3

      @maccastime Agree Peony's a tad long in the tooth (to be kind;) but still good value due to location and pool/big balcony etc imho. Visa Hotel is good value as well just a wee bit further but can easily walk to the Grand Night Market, Market Village mall and access a better stretch of beach across the road. Personally I love value. Not necessarily 'cheap' but just good value. In last video/trip to Hua Hin we stayed at the Hilton and in low season was just 2500 baht, great value!
      See: ruclips.net/video/w0UXeR85K-U/видео.html
      Peony also good value at 700 baht all things considered. But sad to say Peony hoteliers informed they will not renew their contract after Feb thus uncertain what may occur next. If the landlords bring it right up to date with a complete modern refurb, goodbye 700 baht, hello 1600 ++ ??? We shall soon see. Meanwhile, thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers! I live in Hua Hin. Just walked past the Peony Hotel. It has closed. Not sure if it is closed forever, or it is for sale, or they are doing a major renovation on the place. It looked forlorn, really messy, and not a person anywhere to be seen.

      @David Lukey Thanks for the update David. Heard the same news recently so called to get an update and the now previous operator said the lease was up and they would not be continuing. She also did not know what the future would hold for the hotel thus we shall see if it gets upgraded or replaced. Although long in the tooth the old hotel was well managed, staff were lovely too, good value overall and sad to see her go.

      SideTripLife re Peony Hotel a good mate of mine has stayed there for the last 2 years. As I mentioned I did not like the hotel but he was ok with it. I rang him this morning to give him the news as we both visit HH in September each year for 6 weeks. He advised the boss lady of the hotel allowed him to leave a box of his personal stuff there. He said hopefully it won’t go astray. He will try and contact her or the hotel. If any kind person has any further news could they advise. Thanks

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +2

      Hi Ken, the only NEW train on the Southern run is # 31 so you'd have to choose that ONE.
      *newer style train #31 leaves Bangkok at 14:45
      *return from Hua Hin train is #40 leaves at 16:00 (express seater style)
      Train booking online: www.thairailwayticket.com/eTSRT/ (select SOUTHERN line)
      Pls NOTE: Recently I again tried booking (via SRT online) on same #31 train in 2cnd class AirCon for a wedding in Hua Hin. However, Hua Hin trains were all sold out or did not appear. So, called the SRT hotline 1690 and they said can no longer book aircon seats on far South-bound routes for short trips such as to Hua Hin (in 2cnd class seats which are also beds for longer journeys, ie: Surat Thani or Hat Yai etc - makes sense really).
      EXCEPTION: 8:05 a.m. special express which is an older but ok A/C commuter seat train with 4 carriages.
      Also note: SRT said they limit online bookings to 25% of total seats to be fair to all.
      *If one still wants to book the new #31 train, you could try to book the minimum distance thus pay a slightly higher fare to say PKK / Prachuap Khiri Khan (approx 1.5 hours after Hua Hin) but disembark at Hua Hin.

      @@SideTripLife ,I have a question. Is it even possible for my wife and I to buy a home in Thailand. I'm an American. My wife is Chinese. We own our homes in our respective countries. We are seriously looking for a vacation home in SE ASIA. Thailand is our preference. Are we even going to be able?

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +2

      @Joseph Beattie Hi Joseph, I never make recommendations on buying, nor lawyers/solicitors etc but since you asked can give the following advice. As your wife and yourself are foreigners, you cannot own the land. You can only own Condos in your own name if the project has less than 49% foreign ownership (49% of total units). For houses some setup a Co Ltd structure but would strongly suggest to discuss this process and potential pitfalls at length with several other foreigners who have done so first. Also, same goes for selecting a lawyer. Ask several foreigners in your desired area who they used, get many recommendations and research each. Last, be sure to firstly rent an Airbnb or other accommodation nearby your desired area for at least 3 months prior to making any decision (to see if the area meets your daily lifestyle and expectations). Also suggest to take your time. Best wishes on your search! STL

      @Timo Hallenberg - Timo, thank you for this important update! Just got off the phone to confirm with Peony Hotel big boss nickname Khun 'Honeybee' (sounds like;). She said the contract is finished as of the 15th of Feb. She also said she is unsure if the Peony hotel will reopen with other operators but felt they needed to close off their bookings and refund any after their close date (rightfully). Will miss this version of Peony, the staff were great, hotel a bit long in the tooth but comfy with good pool and walk to beach. markets, restaurants... ahh well. Feel for the vacating operators, been caught in a contract issue in Thailand before and it's tough. I asked her to update if they take on a new property and will share if so. Also I know of some other great priced hotel options in Hua Hin and will try to include in final part 3 -coming soon. RIP Peony.... ): STL

      Cheers,

      @Mike Albanese Awww Mike, you mean the chap at Retro Bar? He's a really nice guy and I like his laid back unpolished music style, much the same as the venue which I also like. Hope to pop in there again soon! STL

      @@SideTripLife Just joking STL. I give him credit for working and trying to put some cha ching in his pocket. Your diplomacy responding to some of the negative comments is quite commendable. Good for you for taking the high road. It usually puts the commentators in their place. Cheers and thanks for the great videos.

    Here's some hopefully useful feedback: It would make the videos more enjoyable to watch if the captions weren't in abbreviated "text speak", as if you are sending an SMS or LINE message. In particular, there are many places where the pronoun has been dropped and the sentences ought to begin 'I' or 'We'. A period (full stop) at the end of captions, as appropriate, would help too, as sometimes I wonder whether you are going to continue a sentence on a the next caption. If you had spoken commentary, all this might matter less. When captions are the only way you are giving a commentary, they need to be more readable for the viewer. I hope this helps. I hope to return to Hua Hin soon.

      @Andrew Wallace K, ty m8 ;) Translation: "Okay, thank you mate" :) Seriously though, you do raise very valid points Andrew, particularly given the modern erosion of the English language. Most often when I abbreviate it's simply to shorten text space. However, particularly as one who loves to write (using proper English) I'm acutely aware of the steady decline in using proper language and share concerns where this may be leading. For example, in spoken English it pains me to see modern greetings reduced to "S'up"? I'm also keenly aware my rather careless use of text also reduces the English language to that of generation Zoomer short-hand vernacular (or worse, given my propensity to omit periods, pronouns, etc, etc). Thus, I shall take your helpful & cautionary critique under consideration Andrew. But please forgive me if I fall short of using less than the King's English at times (or the King's Speech - superb movie btw... doh! did it again;);) Kindest regards, STL

    Hi, how much was the train ticket ? Nice video 😊

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  4 года назад +1

      @Family Tabrizi If I recall it was approx 400 baht-ish. That was for 2cnd class aircon. SRT/State Railway of Thailand online site currently shows 'No trains scheduled at this time'. Apparently some 3rd class non-aircon trains are running on limited runs (walk-in at ticket counters) but even if avail wouldn't recommend in the hot season. Hope this info helps. Thx for watching :) STL

      Hi Claus, Heard similar recently. For any interested in a substitute, In part 3 looked at other nearby great value hotels, pls see:
      ruclips.net/video/ZXDedcBdZLQ/видео.html
      Also called to get an update on Peony and the now previous operator said the lease was up and they would not be continuing. She also did not know what the future would hold for the hotel thus we shall see if it gets upgraded or replaced. Although long in the tooth the old hotel was well managed, staff were lovely too, good value overall and sad to see her go.
