    I think there should be a mandate from Sony that all games on PS need to have a working PS1 version.
    I love how they just made two different games, and they both look pretty damn good tbh. The PS1 game is SO PS1, and the PS2 game is SO PS2! You can tell they spent a lot of time / money on both.

      You and I share this sentiment EXACTLY, I love things like this. Just love seeing how people poored passion into their projects. Makes me think of Rayman 2, and how every single port to a different console was strongly unique in their own ways. The PS2 taking the most liberties, Dreamcast having the dev's best vision for it, N64/PC being scuffed Dreamcast versions the dev hated, and the PS1 version being comically different in absolutely every way

      The PS1 version is more boring in terms of fun moments. I've played the PS1 and PS2 versions and PS2 doesn't have a FPG level and the Basilisk fight isn't half as epic as the PS1 version. I love the PS1 version.

      I wouldn't say the PS2 version has better content. Collecting all 101 Wizard cards is very laborious and repetitive, and the game has very few moments that ask the player to mix multiple spells for puzzle solving. I enjoyed the quidditch, spell challenges and stealth sections the most, but I don't feel motivated to collect everything again.
      The PS1 game may be a lot shorter, but the extra gameplay variety and more engaging secret levels makes it feel like a more complete package. It also helps it was a sequel to a game with a solid foundation, whereas the PS2 game had to invent one from scratch. I dig both games a lot, but the PS1 version stands out as a better designed and controlling game.

    • @yrooxrksvi7142
      @yrooxrksvi7142 2 года назад +2

      @@fictionalmediabully9830 The PS2 version is actually free to explore, whereas the PS1 version locks you inside the common room and you can only revisit a few places for some easy to find Wizard Cards. The gnome minigame in the PS1 version is awkward as hell, with inconsistent invisible walls and being mandatory to play, regardless if you want the Wizard card or not.
      Now, tbh, the secret passages and the way the story is told (mostly) are done better here than the PS2 version.

    • @fictionalmediabully9830
      @fictionalmediabully9830 2 года назад +1

      @@yrooxrksvi7142
      There is a restart function when playing the gnome-throwing minigames which made completing those less annoying. There aren't any invisible walls, though the collision is often too large and can mess up your throws. That said, it's only 2 mandatory sections and getting the required score is easy on both. The PS2 version has 5 mandatory broom-flying challenges, and the play control and camera is very clunky and sensitive. I certainly enjoyed them, but they could have been much more polished.

    How to get past the Knockturn Alley Lumos wall glitch seen here when playing PS2 game on PS3: This worked perfectly for me after many years of trying the L2 while pressing/ holding X And it not working! Please spread the word and post this to every relevant place about this topic! You need to press select and spam back-and-forth the Flipendo and Lumos Spell icons, doing it right after pressing X to open the wall and then doing it again as Harry is walking. Both are good games, both play and control well, but they have their plusses and minuses. The PS1 is more faithful to the story, a great dueling system (which actually could have worked as its own separate game, imagine a Harry Potter game released where it's just dueling and you can play as various characters), and good platforming and puzzles, but has (obviously dated and) inferior graphics, and you can't even explore Hogwarts after you beat the game which lowers the replay value. The PS2 version has better graphics, good platforming and puzzles, great exploration and a high replay value, but there's not much dueling in there, it's not that faithful to the story and more of an abridged version.
