  • We imagined that we could have been anywhere in the UK or Europe, with a backdrop like this for a couple of nights camping!
Castle Claremont was constructed way back in 1884 and really was a labour of love as early settler George Hampton Rhodes constructed this beautiful house for his French bride Henrietta. It later operated as a Marist Brothers' training centre, and a rehabilitation facility before being transformed back into this Neo-Gothic style mansion.
We even got a tour of the inside, to view its ambience, history and antiques.
This property is listed as a POP (Park over Property) with the NZMCA and the owners of Castle Claremont welcome camping in self-contained vehicles for only $5pp per night. Water is available on site.
