  • I noticed that the full 58-minute "Ramblin' with John Hartford" documentary was no longer on youtube. Many people have posted individual cuts, making it no fun to watch. I do not hold copyright on this. I presume that whoever holds the copyright (probably John's Trust) does not mind it being on RUclips.
Both myself and my mother Alexandra M. Usher were friends of John's going back decades. Mom was a well-known gaslight square folksinger who had live shows on channel 9. She met him when he was in high school at John Burroughs and helped him decide whether or not to be a musician for his career. John was in a tough spot because his father wanted him to be a doctor. She told John "If you think you would kick yourself for the rest of your life if you don't do it, then maybe you should". The rest is history.
I brought John and the Hartford band to St. Louis for his last concert in St. Louis on Father's Day 2000 at the Missouri Botanical Gardens Ridgeway Center. John really wanted to do the show, but my nonprofit could not afford it, so John and his band did the show for only $4,000! It was a fantastic show. I have video and DAT recordings that I still need to assemble. I will put it on youtube when I have time to produce the video.
I am posting it under the fair use doctrine for non-monetized viewing.

Oh! I guess this is what Sam Bush is singing about in his song “Radio John.” All the people sang along. It’s not easy to get people to do that!
