Also to note about the leather for the SD (Super Deluxe) and the Nippon Made Deluxe model that comes from an ASICs rep for the SD and a leatherworker for the Deluxe and other visual differences that I noticed: SD comes in goat leather upper and the deluxe is made out of kangaroo. I have no information or experience with goat leather, but kangaroo is supposedly stronger than cowhide at the thinner thicknesses, and was also used on Adidas Sambas and cleats in the past. I believe that the Nippon Made Onitsuka Tigers also comes in a purple shoebox as well. The most notable difference between the SD and the Deluxe besides from the price, name and leather is the midsole and outsole. The SD model comes with the black midsole that Reggie mentions with the outsole attached to that midsole, and I think that the regular Mexico 66's comes with a gum or yellow attached outsole with a white midsole. The Deluxe model however is a tonal yellow midsole with an even more aggressive outsole tread. The shape also on the deluxe version is much more sleeker, aggressive and refined and a bit more longer than the SD version as shown in the video Not sure why Onitsuka Tiger doesn't differentiate this on their website since its so confusing, but here is some info after sleuthing lol
I have the yellow mex66 nippon made. Loved them so much. Majority of my mex66 are SDs. Super comfortable. Was able to walk 20k plus steps everyday using the onit shoes and haven’t had any blisters or anything.
Me and a buddy are going to be in japan for a couple of weeks for New Year’s Day and beyond and I’m definitely going to go to the store and possibly buy a pair. Always appreciate the videos bro.
I always wanted a pair of the yellow Mexico 66 back since 2008. Gifted by my brother on my trip to Singapore last 2015. Bought my 2nd pair of yellow Mexico 66 this year. One of my favorite sneakers of all time.
The stores have gotten extremely crazy and tourist-infested, but it's absolutely worth navigating the chaos to secure a pair. Really happy with my Mexico 66s. Hope they bring back the Ultimate 81 - had a pair back in high school and they were wonderful.
I own two pairs of Mexico 66 SD, definitely worth the upgrade, better materials as well as an extra layer of foam in the midsole. Edit: for reference for those on the fence, it’s like upgrading from the standard chuck taylor from converse to the Chuck 70.
Bought 2 pairs of Nippon Made (Ginza) Mexico 66s on my last trip to Japan! Both about $280 after the currency conversion. Leather quality is amazing and supple. And as Reggie says, they go with everything!
Started using Onitsuka as a kid in the mid 1970’s because of our proximity to Japan and ubiquity of the Onitsuka brand in our area. Over time the brand grew on me as it was difficult to find a similar low profile shoe of similar quality. Aside from the 66 other models are similar in profile like the Tiger Corsair A55, the Tokuten or the Tirrack.
In the early 00,s I wore a pair of white and navy onitsukas back to back destroying each pair because they were so comfortable I never wanted to take them off. Tried a lot of other tennis shoes and sneakers since and last year I bought another pair of the plain off white ones with no logo. My feet are soooo happy in these shoes. Even if you don’t get the 66s, onitsuka make some very comfortable shoes. Now if only I could get them in a high top in the US 😭
Got a pair of the standard model 66s in black on black in an onitsuka tiger taiwan. They go so well with anything, can be dressed up and down and especially because i got them in black on black i can get away in more formal settings
Suggestion, Reggie: There should be a chapter separation for the sponsor. It's wild when youtubers don't use chapters on a loooong ad read--I end skipping too far ahead just to be sure. Jomboy does a good job keeping sponsor mentions short. Ad chyrons could easily be the go-to thing on YT. Thank you for coming to my TED tawktuah. 😂
There are 2 types of Mexico 66 SD's, one has a lighter shade of yellow with a black/white/yellow midsole and the one featured here with the more rich yellow tone and yellow/black midsole. The closest I can think of that are a good alternative and competition are the OG Adidas SL 72 with nylon and some leather upper (or the very affordable R71's with mesh upper).
My issues with shoes like these is they feel way too narrow. I've never actually tried the onitsuka but the sambas were fairly narrow and same with everything from nikes (which is a bit off topic). Other than NB, you got any recommendations for a person with wider feet?
I have the same question. Just looking at these sneakers I know it’ll be narrow for me. My current beater pair is the Nike Killshots 2 and they’re just barely wide enough for me.
@@markusknighthey so I’ve just tried some on in Japan and if you have even somewhat wide feet, these things are pretty narrow. I had to size up but then the shoe was pretty long and still not nearly wide enough. Not recommended.
Ive got a pair of the classic with the white in 2018 and honestly one of my favorite shoes to the point where I dont where them much or itd be the only thing Id wear. Styling aside, legit the most comfortable shoes Ive ever worn. The light weight and soft leather is something you gotta feel. Like putting on the perfect pair of gloves.
I have 66s in multitude of colours… Just because they last forever! Even though I don’t buy new ones often, my oldest pairs is probably from 7-8 years ago, which means I have been accumulating them over the years. They seem to go with absolutely everything… Particularly my latest white & gold pair. By far, my favourite pair of trainers. Only negative is they’re fairly expensive and almost never on sale. 🙁
This video conviced me to buy a pair of mexico 66 in Osaka, Japan. I should've bought the Nippon Made. I'll buy a yellow nippon made next year when we go back, because you showed yellow a lot in this video and since it looks a lot like bruce lee and kill bill
I used to love the GSM and a couple of other models, but now the shit costs nearly the old nippon made prices for the standard shoes in the US and now I refuse to buy from them. Which sucks because it's just one less option that I truly liked that wasn't Nike/Jordan brand
@@THECASUALco hehe yeah, they are a bit different from the one they make today the sole was extremely thin, it was also another “era” sneaker frenzy was at it’s inception
I like them but not all of them. Kind of like not all Sambas are the same. I have a pair that has a nice "leather" liner inside so it's not the rough canvas rubbing around your ankle. If they made more like them I would only buy them. The ones I have are all black with silver piping. And even with a wider foot they fit great and true to size.
They're not the most plush under-foot as it's modelled based on a vintage running shoe. A couple of layers of thin foam is what you're going to get. But the materials are good so they shouldn't cause hotpots or cut into your feet, under-foot feel aside.
ive been beating up my all-white mexico 66 slipons for probably a good 8 years now. mud, sundried, rained on, scrubbed, stained, bent, creased, socks, no socks, everything. not a fiber's come off, not a single chip in the rubber! nothing! totally worth the money
Been wearing Mexico 66s for several years now. They are by far my favorite sneaker, and they are so nice to drive in. Couldn't recommend more.

I bought two pairs years ago for next to nothing, gave them to GoodWill and regretted it later. Bought again and I'm keeping them forever this time!

The problem is the narrow toe box !!

The Nippon Made pair is quite literally one of the best shoes ever made.

Chapters added!
Well, that was easy.. Another suggestion, Sir Reginald: It's wild when youtubers aren't buying me pizza?
Favorite toppings?😅
Mushrooms, ricotta, roasted red peppers, and a Karimoku cracked paint bearbrick 🙌
Brooo I love that I found my pair in a goodwill bin for like 2 bucks cleaned them up and bam compliments for days
What’s crazy is I found the right shoe and was hella determined to find the left looked threw piles of shit and found it !

Onitsuka Tiger is a legendary brand.
Tai Chi's are available in the UK direct from Onitsuka Tiger.

Easy to walk in, supple leather, low profile, high quality. Also yes, despite being narrow they are surprisingly comfortable!
Love em
THESE GO HARD IN THE FAVELAS 🗣🗣🔥🔥

I remember when they were $100 even. I'm not paying that much to get it here in the US 😂 i got about 7 pairs before the price hike
Agree before the social media trend you could get a reliable pair for under 100 -
This video conviced me to buy a pair of mexico 66 in Osaka, Japan. I should've bought the Nippon Made. I'll buy a yellow nippon made next year when we go back, because you showed yellow a lot in this video and since it looks a lot like bruce lee and kill bill
I prefer Serranos personally, but these are iconic
About to buy a pair of these, but going to wait on the tai chis till I go to Japan. How’s the sizing on these? Any need to size up or down?
what's the difference of yellow mexico 66 sd vs yellow mexico 66?
Thank you! Good one.
i wanna know more about tornado mart, itd be cool if you coould do a video about them
These look great on foot can’t lie
i live in SG - very difficult to find the made in japan pair. all from VN
if you do a deep dive in the bruce lee story, its interesting how he wore many different pairs of blk ylw sneakers behind the scene
In Manila we call this is the ultimate tito shoes
I bought a pair in 2008, emerald green for $80 USD. Model has been discontinued.
Thank you for your channel. Would be interesting to hear about x vessel and beautiful people brands. May be i missed it?

i have the Kill Bill Tai Chi original since 2003, they are kinda beated but i want to restore em
Tai Chi's are GOATED. Glad they haven't went full trendy.

Yeah they are still good. Some prefer them because they have a wider silhouette.
I like your style nice

Good good 🇲🇽 🇯🇵 , everyone wears these in Korea lately
Does Japan fashion include Spanish brands?

Lol I had a bruce lee pair from BAIT. Had to let them go because they the fit didnt work for me. Great looking shoe though
Got a pair because of Kill Bill 😂
They look awfully flat do they have an arch support in them?
They actually do! Which is nuts. They feel almost like a well fit leather glove on your foot.
What a shame they are way too NARROW !!
nah. they look great on girls, but i think it's played out on guys
Played out?
Bro got his satin panties in a bunch over shoes from projecting gender identity on the feet of strangers. SOUND LOGIC. 😂
