I remember buying this album in '91. This album showed that, D.J. Yella contributed a LOT to all of NWA's music. You can really hear it on this album in hindsight.
That song Soul Psychedelic Side, if you didn’t know Yella produced it, from the sound and how it’s arranged, you’d think it was Dr. Dre. Goes back to what I mentioned before, Yella was a BIG contributor in NWA’s music again in hindsight.
I have ALWAYS wanted to know more about MOCKINGBIRD. I did Storyboards for Marty Thomas (RIP) , on that song...but at the time had no clue, of course, how much I'd love the song. Later, I hit rewind so many times...just can't tell ya. I have my own copy on tape, of course...vhs...argh. I have so many questions that are unanswered but generally, I think I read far more into the song than was part of its inception. I come from a political perspective, so like all good art, I saw In it what I wanted to see. Enjoyed this!
