I attended this concert with my then girl friend. Absolutely epic. Best concert ever. And oh...by the way, married that girl and we just celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.
Jeb Egbert: aww..!! How lovely!! You are so lucky twice!!! > 1. To have been able to be at this concert!! and 2nd of all: That you got married to that great girlfriend of yours that was there with you 🥰🙂 and you are still together after over 40 years - that is a miracle these days.... 😔😌 ⭐️✨
I can't imagine how he felt while performing. Overdosing and getting out of the hospital 2 days prior before the concert. He still made the concert such an amazing experience after going through something so crazy
I was there for the 2nd day to see MY IDOL!! We slept out overnight outside the gates at the top of Academy Drive because we had festival seating. And we were drinking way too much. There was no casual walking to our seats when the gates opened. We literally RAN for our lives all the way to the field gate. This was one of the most memorial days of my life. I still have the program and my ticket. I have a few b/w pix, too. I've since seen ELTON many more times, including standing at his piano on stage in Las Vegas (much better seats, lol) and will see him for the last US concert - the finale - of his farewell tour at Dodger Stadium once again. From 1975 to 2022. What a journey. The thought of this is quite emotional for me!
I'm only 17, was born in 1999. So seeing this footage of the 70s is really like a time machine for me! I appreciate this footage a lot! It's fun to watch a young Elton john in his heyday. I saw him live recently this year, and boy, although his music is the same fantastic music, it'll never be like the 70s! I wish I could've gone back in time. The 70s looked like an AMAZING time for music, and Elton was fabulous! I'll always love him, but a part of me is DYING to get a time machine and attend a 70s or 80s concert of his!!!
Elton was in his absolute prime in the '70s & '80s. Hopefully, there are RUclips clips of some of his live performances back then, but they're not in the same league as actually being at his concerts. Still, it gives you a taste of what it was like in the golden age of rock & pop. ENJOY!!! I've recently attended one of his December 2019 concerts & it was SUPERB!!! Fortunately, I have another one to attend in March.
I appreciate you for appreciating the 70s , it was an amazing time to be alive , people were warm and friendly and didn’t lock their door if you can imagine that . Now we have more problems than you can shake a stick at .
In his book "ME," he says he really didn't want to have all of the fuss surrounding his "star," didn't want to go, and especially didn't want to ride in on the golf cart. Certainly he was very depressed and likely exhausted during this time.
Elton as always being iconic! I always find shelter on his songs. I can't wait to more people become a fan, if you are a new one welcome to the Rocket Club it's the best club ever! ❤
I was lucky to see Elton John 1972 (?) at Long Beach Arena a much much smaller venue holds maybe 4,000 people and he was just getting started. There was open seating on the floor and we danced all night! It was amazing and one of my best concert memories!! Also saw him play at the Forum a few years later..what an entertainer!! Love love love his music along with Bernie Taupen...
Enjoy seeing footage of Elton from that era, especially since I was there at one of the Dodger Stadium shows(1st one), but also hard to see knowing now what we-his fans- didn't know then, how miserable he was at what should have been one of the best times in his life.
I was born on 1973, my dad came accross an old audio cassette where I am talking and playing as a 1 year old and in the background was the song Danny Bailey, so I looked up some old footage just to see if there was any visual to go with this song. On another note, not long before my mother lost her battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease, my father, who was born in England came home from working with the Army Reserves in Iraq in the spring of 2004, he treated me to a once in a lifetime trip to Brittain and France to see our relatibes and enjoy a well deserved holiday, while we were visiting dad's cousins, I had found out that his cousin's husband's mother was Reginald Dwight's babysitter, yup she babysat who we all know now as sir Elton John. I thought wow, what a small small world we live in
It seems that the film crew filmed more videos of the concert, if you see in the beginning of this video with the studio version of pinball wizard, there seems to be more that was not put into this documentary. It seems that more films of this concert exists. Let’s hope they release it
First concert I every attended still have the ticket stubs and program tucked safely away. Hopefully someday the entire event which was filmed will come to be
Same with me. Still have both program and ticket. I'm also seeing him again for the finale of FYBR at Dodger Stadium, 47 years later. Will be emotional for sure.
Lmao .... I guess you forgot about the Vietnam war and the civil rights movement? Oh! And watergate? Nixon resigning? 😂😂😂😂 hahaha yeah nothing like today....🙄🙄🙄🙄🤔🤔🤔🤔
I always particularly enjoyed the don’t shoot me album! Especially that one song Blues for baby and me! Quite a hidden gem ...but lately I’m stuck on the Rock Of The Westies album! That album is a genuine diamond from start to finish! It’s impossible to crank yell help/Wednesday/ugly and not embark on a euphoric rhythmic groove!
Experience extreme, crippling depression and the weight of an entire world on your shoulders at that young of an age and its really not hard to understand why.
All this going on about hiding he was gay doesn't jive with what he says himself. It was mostly down to a loveless childhood in combination with the very strange life of being a superstar.
Saw him here in Sydney. He always opened the show with Funeral for a friend/Love lives bleeding. We got up out of our seats and danced in the aisles. Can't remember the year though.
Might have been 1974? That's when he performed in Auckland (his second ever 'tour' in New Zealand at that stage). Wow, Elton at his peak, what a concert, over 35,000 people packed into Western Springs, my first ever concert. I was a kid, went along with my big brother, then went out and bought all the rest of his earlier albums. His best music was made up until that point.
@@karenmacintosh4309 Actually I just googled his concert dates. That one was the month of February in 1974, I remember it was a summer night :) We were lucky to see him then.
@Proper that’s the point though. it’s the story of elton telling his life story from rehab. it’s supposed to be a fantasy and have some unrealistic points. he was high and drunk during most of the 70s-80s his memory is supposed to be hazy and out of order. elton john himself was a producer in Rocketman so there will probably not be a more accurate biopic of elton john. Rocketman is a beautiful film and it’s a shame that you can’t see that but i respect your opinion :)
Yes sadly Elton tried to commit suicide and was only released from hospital 2 days prior...for those who watched Rocketman you can see Elton looking depressed and then putting a huge smile while arriving on stage... I don't think he was hiding his problems but he was sinoly truly happy while he was on stage
Hey Great Concert footage I'm absolutely obsessed with the seventies early eighties Elton! Would u happen to have any footage of the 1974 Thanksgiving concert at Madison Square Garden featuring John Lennon's Last concert appearance?
The Eagles rocked Wembley so much we wondered who the hell could follow them, then the Beach Boys came on and once again the Stadium seats were bouncing they owned it. Then Elton John came on and tried to play the unheard Capt. Fantastic and half emptied the place. Does anyone know if there's any footage of Wembley '75? Only part I can find is of Elton John :(
Because at the time his life was everyone else's except his.He had to pretend not to be a homosexual out of fear of his career. Its very depressing just thinking about it.
well, no this isn't what really happened considering he was horribly depressed here. the important part was that he tried to kill himself, not how his random family members got there and how they had fun with his money
The movie didn't show the concert tbh. All it did was showing the contrast between his inner and outer life. The movie is about how Elton experienced his life, not about statistics and stuff.
If you flying over the Canadian Rockies and heading for Las Angeles you turn left in a southerly direction, not right; unless you're headed for the North Pole. Too much Dom Perignon perhaps.
