Clarissa's arc has been really lovely this season. I loved the interchange between her and Erich about names and how Amos 'found' her. Amos hasn't given it that thought yet, or at least hasn't consciously done so and Clarissa wasn't there to see that, but it is an echo of the other time space was made to save more people.

As a book reader, this season follows the book quite closely. They left out completely the Free Navy attack on the Mars Prim-minister and he escaping on the RazerBack. But that would take up a full episode. Would be cool having the Rz escape with 90 friends in tow. The ark of Marcos is greatly expanded than in the book but the near death struggle of Naomi is perfectly matches the book. If they had 13 or 15 episodes (double the budget) per season, they could have a well rounded show but doing great job.

Hopefully get the final 3 in a few years eh? Nice one all!
One question I wish was asked is how they feel about Clarissa's feelings towards her sisters actions in season 1 after Clarissa got out of prison. She judged her pretty harshly then and couldn't understand her going against their father, I wonder how her perspective on that may have changed now.
They really don't talk about it much in the books, which was kind of annoying. There was actually a really good scene where could have had Clarissa echo Julie's "gone gone gone" line, but they didn't.
When she was talking with Eric, she said something about how maybe if they didn't value people based on their usefulness to them, people wouldn't have thrown rocks at them in the first place. Meaning if they hadn't exploited and demeaned Belters and instead embraced them as fellow human beings, the earth wouldn't have been the object of a targetted asteroid attack. It's a short moment but I think it really highlights her character development from that woman who jealously judged her own sister.
@@marielaberge8236 I agree, that's what I was referencing in my thought. Since Clarissa's opinion on that has changed, she should also respect that her sister came to that conclusion before she did. It just would've been nice to see Clarissa connect the dots and make a comment about Julie.
One small thing I really liked about this episode is how it is demonstrated that Clarissa is serving as Amos' moral compass in the absence of Naomi. Whenever Erich calls the shots for something, Amos goes along with it because he's thinking like he used to when he lived his life like Erich still lives his, but then if Clarissa speaks up and says "No that's not what we're doing, we're doing this instead because it's what's right," Amos immediately trusts her judgment and backs her up. It's done so naturally that I bet a lot of viewers don't even consciously flash on it. Not a lot of attention is called to it, it just happens, because that's Amos, so of course it does.
Thanks for explaining Naomi's situation and restoring Avasarala to power. Kudos to the entire enterprise. Always a great way to spend an hour. Thanks for the entertainment :)
I just started reading the books this week, finished the 3rd today and waiting on delivery of the rest this evening. And EVERY time I read a line of Amos dialogue I hear Wes speaking it. Almost as strongly with Shohreh Aghdashloo when reading Avasarala. Not so much with other characters.
Will have to go back and rewatch this episode for the shootout. I usually love Amos's scenes the most, but Clarissa and Eric in the cockpit was revealing and funny. I loved it 😍
Wtf! I didn’t realise that season 5 isn’t finished yet. I stopped watching, thinking it was over. Just knowing that I have 3 more episodes to watch is the best news I could have received today. Thanks
I mean ... every episode is great ... but 5/09 is definitely in the Top 5 of all episodes. And Nadine ... what a beautiful woman and the development of her character and how she interacts with Amos is one of my favorite relationships.
Really loved Erich and Clarissa's conversation in the cockpit. Both absolute psycho nutjobs who still harbour a bit of distrust for each other having a relaxed, fun, friendly conversation. Clarissa "Should I ask?" Erich: " :-| I wouldnt"
I love that I didn't notice the shootout was one shot until it was almost over. They didn't do it just because they could: it was the right way to tell that part of the story. Awesome!
An admiral wouldn't do the dieing, so why not. It's a wargame that happens to cost real lives, somewhere, no big deal compared to the prestige and power that would follow if sucessful.

The gun battle was great. I didn't realize that it was one long shot when I was watching. What impressed me was the camera work. I felt like I was right there with them -like I was part of the gun fight. Excellent scene.
Peaches' journey is ironically toward the place where Holden was in season 2, where he told Fred that there shouldn't be sides. Earther, Belter, Martian... everyone is still human and should all be in one tribe, not several. The Pinkwater fight was always going to happen. Either you send the bully away without submitting and without establishing clear dominance (as depicted), and the bully comes back with his gang, or you kill the bully (or beat him and his bodyguards nearly senseless and let them slither back to their leader empty handed), and then the gang shows up in force to answer your challenge. It's not Peaches' responsibility that the island's security force forgot their mandate to protect island inhabitants the moment their comlink to the mainland went dead and instead declared themselves king of the hill.
You have to remember the Pinkwater goons have reverted to exactly the kind of tribal thinking Amos and Eric grew up with. If they don't capture the copter or the shuttle they will die.
I feel that Avisarala's prot4ests about attacking civilian targets doesn't come from just a change in thinking but from also knowing that attacking innocent Belters would only play into Marco's hands and drive more people to joining his ranks. She's smart enough to know that not all Belters are the same and not all Belters necessarily believe in Marcos and what he does. But if they start attacking all Belters, regardless of affiliation, she knows that Belters that are on the fence or maybe more in Fred Johnson's camp will likely change their minds and join Marcos. Regarding the military, it's really stereotypical and an old trope to portray all senior military personnel as being all gung ho and the only solution to every problem is to shoot it or bomb it into submission. In reality, military personnel, both officer and enlisted as well junior and senior members of both sides of the house, are much more nuanced than that. By this point in time, a lot of top military officers will have learned from lessons in the past that deliberately killing innocent civilians or even being over heavy handed with non-aligned civilians is a bad idea and just helps the enemy.
@@THANE_MITHRA Destroying a belter station would be like Pearl Harbor or the bombing of Coventry in WW2. Instead of demoralizing people it will galvanize them more strongly than any of Inaros' propoganda or strong-arming ever could.
@@Johnny-rx4hs Very very good response. Personally I believe expanse is about repetition of history and evolution of technology and how they play together . The show has many historic references in episode names and character and ship names and not only nails history right but nails science right too. Thats why your response in my opinion is what the storytellers mean to communicate
I kind of feel she would make the same call in season one but she wouldn't have been as disgusted by the option. She would have thought of it as being a pragmatic choice not to take the military option. Whereas now she is openly disgusted by the prospect of killing civilian belters.
That shootout was so great. The entire time, the missus and I were on the edge of our seats fearing for Amos’s life. And I’m such a sucker for oners like that. That shootout reminded me of that famous oner from Children of Men.

"Why does he call you Peaches?" "I don't know" - it's because when Amos met you you were Melba... Gotta ask, is Amos' habit of nicknaming like an Australian on purpose? Because it feels awfully familiar to me and my housemate when we watch :)

509 was epic. Awesome craft in this series. Watching Amos care about Clarissa has been so interesting. It is like he has a homing beacon for people who overcome tragedy and become their best selves... they provide the compass and he provides clarity and strength.
The scene of Amos staring out of the airlock at the dying Earth below really strongly reminded me of the start of Mass Effect 3. Nine brilliant episodes in a row - it's easy to take the quality of this show for granted, but it's remarkable, and a credit to everyone who works on it
I'm confused: wasn't the "long shot" filmed at the different locations (outside, tunnel and shuttle ramp). It's still impressive (outside is pretty long by itself)
Yeah, it's interesting. It absolutely sells as a continuous running battle. There's actually a fair bit of cutting outdoors, but as they run beside the stone wall to get to the ramp, with the look up the hillside at the gunfire, that _is_ quite a long shot followed by a couple of quick cuts when Amos is disoriented by some near misses and his buddy gets him back into cover ("I got you!"). But then they head down the ramp and into the tunnel ("You good?" "I'm good, go!") and that, plus Amos closing the doors and running down the tunnel is all one shot. Or seems to be. But that run down the tunnel just goes on and on and leads to the shuttle. The ramp is a believable feature of a big house like that, probably leading to basement parking and service access, but launch silos are not a common feature of southern Ontario mansions. Maybe the outdoor portion after "I got you!" is faked in to match the mansion location, but was shot at the wind tunnel location, so that the door-closing and tunnel run sequence could be all one shot? Or, maybe the entrance to the tunnel is VFXed in to footage shot at the mansion location, and the whip pan as Amos runs to catch up with the others is hiding a cut, and the rest of the sequence is at the wind-tunnel location? Either way, that would be some impressive digital set extension work.
The shootout and escape at the end was amazing Television. Once again TV surpasses what you would see in a theater. Such a great rush to end the episode. Been my favorite show since halfway through season 1 aired on Syfy. If I could afford to keep Hulu it would share the honor with Letterkenny!
I hate that we have completed 9 episodes in this season and we are still hung up in Naomi's storyline. Wish we could see more of Alex, James and Drummer. Feels like a bunch of great actors just got wasted this season.
I agree I thought last season felt like they were taking it easy and doing a small story so they could gear up for another but it just seems like they are drawing the season out
That’s because Naomi’s and Amos’/Clarissa’s storylines are the bigger focuses of Nemesis Games, the book that this season is based on. If you’re waiting for the Free Navy conflict to be resolved this season, it won’t.
Great job on this show. Actors are doing a very good bit protraying these complex characters and the writing is great. I admire the story, how all the characters are trying to solve problems, even Inaros, they have motives that make sense from their own perspectives. And how those problem-solving actions collide with the others - it's very realistic. I can buy it, unlike many TV shows that stitch together the action with villain characters that only exist to drive the plot, but make no sense as people. One odd thing I might ask is: how come Amos is always the one who gets shot?
Would have loved to see Peaches actually go full beast mode and shred the rent-a-cop guys. Given time and money I completely understand why that sequence wasn't included. Also, Amos loves his shotguns but that is a short range weapon and a lot of that shoot out was a little beyond the reach of a shotgun. Not that anyone really cares. It was still awesome. Great epidode!
The best scenes were on Earth and those scenes were too short because I felt shortchanged, especially on Peaches' scene when she took out that mob! All we saw was the aftermath! Boo!!!! 😃
I thought it was cool because with the continuously shot fire fight I kind of forgot about it, then we come back to a crazy scene with her recovering form ripping apart half a dozen gunmen barehanded while saving the civilians! I think the shock of walking into the aftermath hit harder than if we were to see the special effects of the act itself.
She’s more frightening if you’re not sure exactly what she can do. Something that the original Alien movie did really well - don’t let the camera see the monster too often. Saves on effects budget too.
TM Martin Hear Hear!! I couldn’t agree more with you my friend. Btw, just who is it, she killed? It cannot be the ones that she asked to come fly on the ship, could it be????

If they do I want one of Bobby to!And Alex prequel! They left a lot of development put of his character.I want to see how he became such a rad pilot.
Brilliant... dunno how u guys r gonna wrap this up in 1 last ep! Can’t wait. Also love how belter ships r like Russian subs with the pressure hull then the outer skin, with some services etc in between.... season six good place to finish - in terms of what happen in books - I still be gutted tho. Hopefully get the final 3 in a few years eh? Nice one all!
Yep, that shoot-out was fantastic. And the shot of the shuttle launching, just perfect
Just discovered the show, great TV. In three weeks, I got all caught up. Love the depictions of space travel.
Kind of ironic that she stops the others from killing the security guys at first but is the one who's killing the most of them in the end.
She gave them the opportunity to live and they decided to commit suicide.
@@Johnny-rx4hs
It was a quick death.
Staying on the island would mean a slow one

Peaches! 🍑 she’s really turned out to be my favorite this season
Loved your acting on this one, Wes! Amos has so much to give!
Will have to go back and rewatch this episode for the shootout. I usually love Amos's scenes the most, but Clarissa and Eric in the cockpit was revealing and funny. I loved it 😍
I need Wes Chatham to play Jack Reacher
He would be badass in that movie 🍿 but even more badass as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect either Amos or James
Wes would definitely be a better Reacher than Tom.
I need Wes Chatham... Period.
Better than Tom but still too short.
@@supertrendymoneymaker0722 that would be pretty awesome. Is there some plan to make a movie from Mass Effect?
Wtf! I didn’t realise that season 5 isn’t finished yet. I stopped watching, thinking it was over. Just knowing that I have 3 more episodes to watch is the best news I could have received today. Thanks
What? There's only one more episode.
I mean ... every episode is great ... but 5/09 is definitely in the Top 5 of all episodes. And Nadine ... what a beautiful woman and the development of her character and how she interacts with Amos is one of my favorite relationships.
Thw shootout was one of my favorite parts of the book, and it was tremendous in the show too.
Whoever edited this is pro.
All the stuff with the mansion this ep was absolutely awesome; Clarissa, Amos, and Erich have a great dynamic.
Really loved Erich and Clarissa's conversation in the cockpit. Both absolute psycho nutjobs who still harbour a bit of distrust for each other having a relaxed, fun, friendly conversation.
Clarissa "Should I ask?"
Erich: " :-| I wouldnt"
One of my favourite episodes in the whole show!
I love that I didn't notice the shootout was one shot until it was almost over. They didn't do it just because they could: it was the right way to tell that part of the story. Awesome!
A smart & strategic admiral, doesn’t just think attacking is the answer. No soldier wants to go to war if they can avoid it.
An admiral wouldn't do the dieing, so why not. It's a wargame that happens to cost real lives, somewhere, no big deal compared to the prestige and power that would follow if sucessful.
@@ShrekMeBe that’s a not a good leader. A leader should take responsibility for his people. Same as a coach who blames his players is a terrible human & coach
@@ndrose not a good leader, indeed, but a very human leader, imperfect and blind to most that does not impact on his career, pushing his agenda on whatever the mob he should be serving happens to be excited about. Quite understandable, when you're a hammer, most things look like nailheads

The Clarissa/Amos storyline is my personal favorite among a list of fantastic scenes of the entire series.
Brilliant episode. I love this show.
Gotta love Dominique's scenes and writing, she has virtually no words but her scenes just hit as hard as the shoot out.
All I got was annoyed. It reminded me of the episode of Babylon 5 where the doctor got stabbed and was crawling back from the bowels of the station and it was being intercut with this incredible space battle. GET ON WITH IT.
I'd love to see more about the technical crew and costume. Who does all the beads and embroidery for Avasarala?
her attire is inspired from south indian saree
The gun battle was great. I didn't realize that it was one long shot when I was watching. What impressed me was the camera work. I felt like I was right there with them -like I was part of the gun fight. Excellent scene.
That shoot out was dope!! Quite rightly said! 🙌🏻
They have already joined his ranks and he is killing dissenters. You do have a point. However in war the natural thing is to respond or be weakened.
Yes. Avasarala thinks strategically.
She's always looking for the course of action which will weaken her enemies.
I kind of feel she would make the same call in season one but she wouldn't have been as disgusted by the option. She would have thought of it as being a pragmatic choice not to take the military option. Whereas now she is openly disgusted by the prospect of killing civilian belters.
This is such a great format.
That shootout was so great. The entire time, the missus and I were on the edge of our seats fearing for Amos’s life. And I’m such a sucker for oners like that. That shootout reminded me of that famous oner from Children of Men.
Where’s Ty & That guy episode 10 ? Come on guys your chats are awesome

@@JimNortonsAlcoholism My thoughts exactly. Let's see if they will upload something.
Per some tweets I just saw, there is an episode 10, but the timing of the RUclips post is up to Amazon and our hosts do not yet know when it'll go up.
Love this series of After Shows for this great TV series and IP. Ty and That Guy is just wonderful. It was also grwat to have Peaches (Nadine) with the guys. Great character and wonderful actor that brings the words off the page to inhabit this tortured soul. Wonderful indeed. Cannot wait to see S5:E10. It has come so quickly. Can't believe the season is almost over. Ugh.
This was the best talk of all so far.
I stan that Nadine saw The Good Place - also a great awesome show!

amos would probably make for a more likeable james vega
@@erbgorre You know what I forgot about him he can definitely play him instead. Looks like James Holden will be Shepard then.
Clarissa for a female Sheppard, she could play both angles.
@@ShrekMeBe What about her sister Julia Mao she can play the role of an Asari.
"Why does he call you Peaches?" "I don't know" - it's because when Amos met you you were Melba... Gotta ask, is Amos' habit of nicknaming like an Australian on purpose? Because it feels awfully familiar to me and my housemate when we watch :)
Yeah I thought this was obvious but that could be because I'm also Australian.
Oi bluey! Pipe down over there!
Peach Melba!! OMG
The writers stole that from Lost. (Speculation) Sawyer on the show had a quip and a nickname for everything and everyone!😁😁👍🏻👍🏻

No finale episode?
All the actors are superb but I just think that Olunike Adeliyik, Karal, did such a good job with such a small role. She was completely believable, she is like a female Darth Vader :)
Completely wrong on that Darth Vader comparison. I feel like you are reaching
@@douglaskelley4486 Okay, I might be reaching a bit, but I thought she did such a bang up job of being such a believably menacing and threatening zealot I had to look up who she is online and give her some credit. 509 was epic. Awesome craft in this series.
Watching Amos care about Clarissa has been so interesting. It is like he has a homing beacon for people who overcome tragedy and become their best selves... they provide the compass and he provides clarity and strength.
That single shot was sooooo good.
The scene of Amos staring out of the airlock at the dying Earth below really strongly reminded me of the start of Mass Effect 3. Nine brilliant episodes in a row - it's easy to take the quality of this show for granted, but it's remarkable, and a credit to everyone who works on it
Earth ain’t dying. It’s having a rebirth.
We need more of this
Where is the episode 10 aftershow? I neeeeeed it
I hate that we have completed 9 episodes in this season and we are still hung up in Naomi's storyline. Wish we could see more of Alex, James and Drummer. Feels like a bunch of great actors just got wasted this season.
I agree I thought last season felt like they were taking it easy and doing a small story so they could gear up for another but it just seems like they are drawing the season out
They could've probably cut out 2 episodes from the second half of the season to improve the pacing
@@troytesla yeah and should have added more plots.
That’s because Naomi’s and Amos’/Clarissa’s storylines are the bigger focuses of Nemesis Games, the book that this season is based on. If you’re waiting for the Free Navy conflict to be resolved this season, it won’t.
Que mulher bonita... and so talented. She's stunning.
No season finale after-show? :(
Would have loved to see Peaches actually go full beast mode and shred the rent-a-cop guys. Given time and money I completely understand why that sequence wasn't included. Also, Amos loves his shotguns but that is a short range weapon and a lot of that shoot out was a little beyond the reach of a shotgun. Not that anyone really cares. It was still awesome. Great epidode!
Use what you got.
Such an underrated show!
yay! Michigan here too!
Where is the episode 10 aftershow?
this
The best scenes were on Earth and those scenes were too short because I felt shortchanged, especially on Peaches' scene when she took out that mob! All we saw was the aftermath! Boo!!!! 😃
Only Amos calls her Peaches
I thought it was cool because with the continuously shot fire fight I kind of forgot about it, then we come back to a crazy scene with her recovering form ripping apart half a dozen gunmen barehanded while saving the civilians! I think the shock of walking into the aftermath hit harder than if we were to see the special effects of the act itself.
@@anydaynow01 Yeah, but.... 🤣
She’s more frightening if you’re not sure exactly what she can do.
Something that the original Alien movie did really well - don’t let the camera see the monster too often.
