    So sad to see this, I felt sorry for TVS not gaining the recognition it deserves after 11 years working from the early days without a certain TV installation only the small studios of Southern, ... And Thames personally my favorite actually broke my heart to see they leave just thinking of all the great shows they did Magpie, Rainbow, Mr Bean ... It leaves me with tears in my eyes so much effort in so many years so that in the end ITV cancel the franchise very sad

    The scandalous loss of Thames TV was down to Thatcher's political spite.

    ones which started with the letter T came to an end THAMES TVS TSW & TV AM. Thames closing down was the worst as they made some the best shows for ITV so miss these days of when TV was proper unlike the crap these days. Carlton were bloody crooks as they destroyed Central (another awesome company), HTV and Westcountry TV.

    I remember this clip! Its interesting to see this kind of thing happening again too, first the regional names went (eg, HTV West became ITV West) and now ITV West is apparently to go into a super region with ITV Westcontry (formally Westcontry TV)...old news but still current in some forms! Funny to see a frequent customer at where i work in the news too... (the bloke who plays the PM in little Britain)!

      Of course when some of the companies changed in the ITV franchise rounds then or before, they bought out the old ones studios and so on too. TVS bought Southern's studios in Southampton, and then later went to Meridian. TSW bought Westward's studios in Plymouth, although Westcountry did not buy them from them then. Carlton did not buy Thames' old studios but had other ones, later sharing LWT's studios. ATV had studios which then became Central's later on too. TV-am was not taken on by GMTV/Sunrise as they too had their own studios, the same as the ones Carlton then had with LWT's later on too.

    If I were Thames, I'd have pullled a Granada and threatened to sell my programmes to Sky. I personally dislike Sky the company, but Granada kept their franchise, and they kept financially stable...though it did nationalise ITV...so...double edged sword.

    The ITV Franchises changes and merger of intervisual Regional ITV companies was the start of a new chapter for ITV as we know it Carlton and Granada bought out all the Regional companies and one company was put out of Business was Grampian television which was merge with Scottish television which became STV, The merge had to keep up with the times to be able to compete against BSKYB/BBC to save them going broke from the recent ITV Digital Collapse in 2004.

    The 1990 Broadcasting Act, a bad piece of legislation and one that would change the ITV / ILR landscape forever with several casualties in the fallout.

      @brucedanton3669 Год назад +1

      No it does not too oddly? The way Oracle too ended only to be replaced with the not so wonderful in comparison Teletext was an odd decision too! Odder too really was the fact of course that teletext was the generic name/title for the service, including of course too Ceefax on the BBC; and the short lived Prestel service that was run by the Post Office at one point in time also too.
